Study on the Characteristics of 30 kVA Inductive High-Tc Superconducting Fault Current Limier (30 kVA급 유도형 고온초전도 한류기의 특성 연구)

  • The high-tc superconducting fault current limiters (SFCL) are studied worldwide to be classified as resistive type or inductive type such as magnetic shielding type and dc reactor type. This Paper deals with an open core type SFCL, a kind of magnetic shielding type SFCL. We manufactured a 30 kVA open core type SFCL. It was modified from the old one with a rated power of 8 kVA. We stacked four superconducting tubes as magnetic shielding material and used the same primary winding as the old one. The experiments were performed with a maximum source voltage of 1 kV. The results show that the fault current in the source voltage of 1 kVrms was reduced to be about 105 Apeak, which was calculated to be about 22 % of the fault current in the system without an SFCL.

  • In this paper, a shape optimization algorithm of superconducting magnet using finite element method is presented. Since the superconductor loses its superconductivity over the critical magnetic field and critical current density, this material property should be taken into account in the design process. Trial and error approach of repeating the change of the design variables costs much time and it sometimes does not guarantee an optimal design. This paper presents a systematic and efficient design algorithm for the superconducting magnet. We employ the sensitivity analysis based on finite element formulation. As for optimization algorithm, the inequality constraint for the superconducting state is removed by modifying the objective function and the nonlinear equality constraint of constant volume is satisfied by the gradient projection method. This design algorithm is applied to an optimal design problem of a solenoid air-cored superconducting magnet that has a design objective of the maximum energy storage.

  • The formation of oxide superconducting phase fabrication of superconducting wire materials and fabrication of precise superconducting material were studied for developing superconductor application technique. The $ZrO_2$ addition reduced the particle size $BaZrO_3$ trapped in the matrix after the sintering growth. The added $ZrO_2$ was converted to fine particles of $BaZrO_3$ which is the conventional sintering temperature for YBaCuO, $Y_2Ba_1Cu_1O_5$ and CuO are formed as by products of the reaction between $ZrO_2$ and YBaCuO phase. The formation of highly $BaZrO_3$ particle appears to be responsible for the refinement of $BaZrO_3$ phase after the citric acid sintering process.

  • We present current limiting properties of 1.2kV/70A superconducting fault current limiter based on YBCO thin films. This is consisted of 6 wafers (3 parallel ${\times}$ 2 serial connection) with 4 inch-diameter YBCO thin film. The quench current Iq of the switching elements vary between 33.9 and 35.6 A. Within the difference of 0.5 A in the sum of quench current Iq in two stacks, the serial connection of the stacks showed the simultaneous quench behavior in applied power of 1.2 kV /70 A.

  • The effect of the superconducting film thickness on the surface resistance has been investigated. Superconducting YBCO thin films have been grown on MgO substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The dependence of the orientation of YBCO film on thickness has been investigated by X-ray diffraction technique. X-ray diffraction indicated that the film orientation was changed by increasing the film thickness and by changing the substrate temperature. The microwave properties of the films with mixed orientations of a-axis and c-axis will be reported for the applications of microwave devices.

  • This aim of this study was to develop a process for creating bulk single-crystal YBaCuO superconductors in a high magnetic field. To support the bulk unidirectional growth of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$, $SmBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ seeds were planted inside YBaCuO composites and samples were produced by melting, enabling the growth of two YBaCuO superconductors. Due to the magnetism generated inside the superconductor of the upper sample, the magnetization inside the superconducting single crystals was evenly distributed, the sharpness of the induced magnetic force was improved, and the superconducting magnetization were significantly improved. This approach is widely applicable for the production of superconducting wires and current leads used for DC power breakers.

  • The link for the Superconducting Flux Flow Transistor (SFFT) which is based on the flux flow has been fabricated by the ICP etching methods. The channel width and the thickness of the SFFT were a 3 ${\mu}$m and about 300 nm, respectively. The superconducting characteristic of the link was measured by the x-ray diffraction and the E.D.S.. The SFFT etched by ICP showed an I-V characteristic like the three terminal transistor.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of the shielded inductive superconducting fault current limiter(FCL) were simulated and analyzed to search for the parameter to determine FCL operation, Fault current limiting operation can be executed as resistive or inductive type, which is determined by iron-core radius and the number of the primary coil turns. It was considered through this paper that the operation of each was compared and examined about the merit of each mode.
