For an inhomogeneous superconductor, we reveal a relation of an observed superconducting gap, $\Delta$$_{obs}$ and the intrinsic true gap, $\Delta$$_{i}$, $\Delta$$_{obs}$(equation omitted) where band filling, 0<$\rho$<$\leq$1. $\Delta$$_{obs}$ is the effect of measurement when 0<$\rho$<1. The true gap is observed only when $\rho$=1. Parring symmetry analyzed by a coherence-peak shape of density of states, observed in B $i_2$S $r_2$CaC $u_2$$O_{8}$+$\chi$ superconductors, is s- wave.X> $O_{8}$+$\chi$ superconductors, is s- wave. wave.
In this study we investigated ac transport current losses in the face to face stack for the anti-parallel current flow, and compared the electromagnetic properties with those of the single SC tape as well as those of the same stack for the parallel current path. The gap between the SC tapes in the stack varied in order to verify the electromagnetic influence of the neighbors when current flows in opposite direction, and the model was implemented in the finite element method program by the commercial software, COMSOL Multiphysics 4.2a. Conclusively speaking, the loss was remarkably decreased for the anti-parallel current case, which is attributed the magnetic flux compensation between the SC layers due to the opposite direction of the current flows. As the gap between SC tapes was increased, the loss mitigation became less effective. Besides, the current density distribution is very flat cross the sample width for the narrower gap case, which is believed to be benefit for the power electric system. These results are all in good agreement with those predicted theoretically for an infinite bifilar stack.
Quench behavior of resistive superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLS) with various pattern shapes was investigated. The pattern shapes employed were meander, bi-spiral, and spital shapes of identical line width, gap and margin. SFCLS were fabricated from YBCO thin films grown on two-inch diameter Al$_2$O$_3$ substrates under the same conditions. The total length of current limiting paths was the shortest at the spital shape due to its larger useless space. Inductance component of SFCLs with the spiral shape was around two times as high as those of other two shapes. This is not desirable since impedance characteristics of existing power systems can be changed. Resistance rise of current limiting elements was low at a spiral shape before the whole quench completion, which may act as a disadvantage for simultaneous quench in serial connection between current limiting elements, but the temperature tended to have similar values at higher voltages. On the other hand, hi-spital shape was severe at insulation level between current limiting lines. When these aspects were considered, we concluded that a meander shape was appropriate to design for a resistive SFCL based on thin films except the concentration of electric field at edge areas of strip lines.
Different from the conventional motor, the superconducting motor has so large air-gap that the actual parameters such as excitation voltage have considerable difference from the values obtained from 2-dimensional electromagnetic analysis. This paper introduces 3-dimensional EMCH(Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network) method or FLUX-3D FEM(Finite Element Method) software to reduce the error originated from the 2-dimensional electromagnetic analysis for the development of a 1 MW class high-temperature superconducting motor.
A 30kVA superconducting generator (S.G.) has been designed, developed and successfully tested in KERI before the end of last year. The design is based on 2-dimensional electromagnetic field analysis of cylindrical coordinate. The field winding of rotor has been wound with superconducting wire of Nb-Ti alloy and tested after assembled with other rotor components. The stator has air-gap type armature windings which allow higher terminal voltage and more sinusoidal voltage waveform than conventional iron cored machines. Steady-state open & short-circuit test and lamp load test have been conducted also. The results of tests are given in this paper and compared with design quantities. Moreover the cooling scheme and characteristics of test system is included.
In this thesis, Josephson junction using high-Tc superconducting multi-layer thin film has been fabricated by on-axis RF magnetron sputtering method. And, the characterizations were performed by X-ray diffraction, SEM and the measuring system of critical current density. The physical properties of multi-layer superconducting thin films were also analyzed with the measured results. To fabricate the multi-layer superconducting thin films, the optimum partial pressure of Argon and Oxgen and the temperature of substrate were measured. Also, YBaCuO thin film was grown on MgO and $SrTiO_3$ substrates by rf-sputtering and LGO thin film of 30 A was epitaxially grown on the YBaCuO thin film as a josephson junction with the same condition. The schottky barrier at the contact surface between YBaCuO/LGO and YBaCuO/Au and the energy gap of 0.5 ${\sim}$ 0.6 mV in Nb were observed from the dI/dV-V of YBaCuO/LGO/Au/Nb and YBaCuO/Au/Nb.
On the contrary of a conventional motor with very narrow air-gap. it is difficult to calculate the accurate magnetic field distribution and the performance of an air-cored superconducting motor by 2 dimensional analysis. which does not use high permeability material except outer machine shield. This paper aims to do analysis of magnetic field and force distribution from the 3 dimensional modelling of a 1MW class superconducting synchronous motor. Especially. the field coil composed of Bi-2223 high-temperature superconductor and the outer machine shield are modelled by finite element analysis software according to their structures and the self-inductance and Lorentz force are calculated based on the 3 dimensional magnetic field calculation. Moreover. the influence of an important parameter, synchronous reactance, has been analyzed on the machine performances such as voltage variation and output power.
We employed home-made position marking module in the scanning Hall probe system. The module is composed of two coils of which gap, a, between wires in a coil is $500{\mu}m$. We appiled 10-35mA of current with 15Hz in the coils and recorded ac corresponding magnetic field signal with respect to measuring time while we measured DC field profiles produced due to superconducting film in a perpendicular magnetic field. We calibrate the position, x, of coils using the measuring time and location of the coils in the holder. The error range was about ${\pm}0.1mm$. We test the module as we applied current of 100A and filed of 1kG in the superconducting tape. It was confirmed that there was no interference between superconducting tape and marking coils.
A closed-loop cryogenic cooling system for high field magnets is presented. This design is motivated by our recent development of cooling system for 21 tesla Fourier Transform ion Cyclotron Resonance (FT-ICR) superconducting magnets without any replenishment of cryogen. The low temperature superconducting magnets are immersed in a subcooled 1.8 K bath, which is connected hydraulically to the 4.2 K reservoir through a narrow channel. Saturated liquid helium is cooled by Joule-Thomson heat exchanger and flows through the JT valve, isenthalpically dropping its pressure to approximately 1 6 kPa, corresponding saturation temperature of 1.8 K. Helium gas exhausted from pump is now recondensed by two-stage cryocooler located after vapor purify system. The amount of cryogenic Heat loads and required mass flow rate through closed-loop are estimated by a relevant heat transfer analysis, from which dimensions of JT heat exchanger and He II heat exchanger are determined. The detailed design of cryocooler heat exchanger for helium recondensing is performed. The effect of cryogenic loads, especially superfluid heat leak through the gap of weight load relief valve, on the dimensions of cryogenic system is also investigated.
An HTS power cable is generally composed of 2 layers for conducting and 1 layer for shielding. For the analysis of AC loss of an HTS power cable, 2-dimensional magnetic field analysis is carried out. The magnetization loss in HTS cable core was calculated, and the transport current loss was obtained from the monoblock equation and the elliptical Norris Equation. And the total AC loss of the cable was expected by the sum of magnetization loss and transport current loss. The variation of ac loss with respect to the gap and uncertain factor between the superconducting tapes was investigated, and the ac loss of 22.9kV/50MVA high-Tc superconducting power cable was calculated. These results well agree with those of experiment.
