  • In order to study the distribution characteristics of natural volatile organic compounds (NVOCs), we investigated the seasonal variations of $\alpha$-and $\beta$-pinene levels in a pine forest in Florida for a you. The mean concentrations of $\alpha$- and $\beta$-pinene measured during the whole study period were computed to be 125: 86 (N = 65) and 86$\pm$52 pptv (N = 56), respectively. According to our data grouping scheme, the seasonal means for both pinones were observed to peak during fall with their max and min values in summer and winter, respectively. The overall results of our study suggest that terpenes are subject to highly strong temporal variability because of changes in their major source characteristics across seasons.

  • Concentration of volatile particulate nitrate(NH$_4$NO$_3$) in TSP in ambient air was determined from Feb. to Oct 1993. Sampling was carried out using a two-stage Andersen air sampler at the top of a five-story building located at Kon- Kuk University in Seoul Concentration of NH$_4$NO$_3$ in TSP was measured by Pyrolysis of sample filters at 16$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr. Concentration of NH$_4$NO$_3$ was higher in winter time compared with that in summer time. Also, concentration of NH$_4$NO$_3$ was higher in fine particles compared with that in coarse particle. The range of NH$_4$NO$_3$concentration was between 2.99 and 9.86 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥. Weight fraction of NH$_4$NO$_3$ in total particulate nitrate was 31.1~59.5%, and weight fraction of NH$_4$NO$_3$ in YSP was 2.1~11.2%.

  • The East Asian summermonsoon is generally accompanied with the quasi-stationary front along the northern and northwestern periphery of the subtropical Northwest Pacific high. The rainy season in Korea has been called as Changma since the middle of 1500s. Understanding of Changma and heavy rainfall advancing along the Changma front is one of main interesting of Korean meteorologists. This study briefly summarized the descriptive characteristics of Changma and its relatedmechanism, definitions on the Changma period, and etymology of Changma through reviewing the previous studies on Changma.

  • Cool island intensity urban green space was investigated based in Dalsung Park, that is one of the largest parks in Daegu. Cool island intensity(CII), which is defined as the temperature difference between the green space and its surrounding built-up areas, shows time variations. A through-year measurement(2008-2009) of ground level air temperature revealed seasonal variation and relationship to the atmospheric condition of CII. The temperature variation in the park and the reference downtown Daegu was as same order as CII. The noontime CII is larger in summer than that in winter due to the leaf fall of the park trees. On the other hand, seasonal variation of nighttime CII is not so clear. The nighttime CII was larger under the stable atmosphere.

  • The annual increasing rate of visitors was 3 percent in Soraksan National Park form 1990 to 1997. Secenty nine percent of total visitors in Soraksan National Park has visited Oysorak district due to convenient access and facilities. Approximately, 6~17 percent of visitors passing through Sorakdong ticket office at Oysorak district has climbed up Taech'ongbong(peak), the others have visited Ulsanbawi, Pisondae and Madungnyong close at hand. Climbers from Osekyaksu to Taech'ongbong(peak)were more in autumn than in summer. Visiting pattern in Soraksan National Park showed differences by districts, seasons and days of the week.

  • Recently, the environment of the Ariake Sea, Japan has changed drastically. In this study, the result of sea survey, synchronizing the passage time of the Landsat in August 2002 was collated with the satellite data to develop the evaluating equation for transparency and sea surface temperature (SST). By Applying these equations to 5 satellite images of the same season, the transparency and SST in summer of 1985, 1991, 1996 and 2000 is estimated. Consequently, the transparency had increased until 2000 and then decreased in 2002. The SST, on the other hand, shows no remarkable trend.

  • In order to estimate microbial contaminant discharge from diffuse sources, rainfall runoff was monitored at forestry, agriculture and urban watersheds. Total coliform and E. coli were monitored at the study watersheds as they are regulated by the environmental laws. Concentration and EMC (Event Mean Concentration) of coliform of rainfall runoff at the urban watershed were the highest followed by those from agricultural and forestry watersheds. By monitoring coliform concentrations of overlying water and sediment at five monitoring points in the downstream of the Geum River, average concentration from spring to summer was higher than those values from fall to spring. Coliform concentrations in the pore water were higher compared to those of overlying water and closely related with flow rate of the river.

  • The fashion industry saw the emergence of environment-friendly and natural fabric materials recently. The naturalism trend has established sectors in the textile and fashion industry also. Ramie and hemp have long been favored fabric materials in Korea especially for summer. The hand-related mechanical/physical properties of the fabric specimens were analyzed using a fabric objective measurement system, KES(Kawabata Evaluation System). Subjective evaluation was also implemented based on a series of selected adjectives. Studies on natural dyeing methods are important since the establishment of scientific approach is needed in terms of environment and human safety along with the reproduction of traditional natural dyeing methods. In this study, linen, ramie, hemp, and cotton/polyester/linen union fabric specimens were used for the natural dyeing using Rubia akane Nakai with the mordant of gallnut. ${\Delta}E$ values of dyed fabric specimens, mordanted and dyed once using Rubia akane Nakai, increased significantly compared to those of repeatedly dyed fabric specimens without mordanting.
