  • Transcatheter closure of atrial septal defects has become a popular procedure. The availability of a preprocedural imaging study is crucial for a safe and successful closure. Both the anatomy and morphology of the defect should be precisely evaluated before the procedure. Three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography and cardiac computed tomography are helpful for understanding the morphology of a defect, which is important because different defect morphologies could variously impact the results. During the procedure, real-time 3D echocardiography can be used to guide an accurate closure. The safety and efficiency of transcatheter closures of atrial septal defects could be improved through the use of detailed imaging studies.

  • A successful product development process can not be achieved without a proper focus and prioritization. For this research, the priority is defined as the relative urgency of a system compared to other system in order to develop and launch a successful product. The process of integrated approach for prioritization using ID and Goal Programming is developed. The development of a mid-size car by an internationally reputed automotive company is described as a case study.

  • According to the study of TQM implementations, the odds that an organization will successfully implement total quality management are two to one-against it. Based on the Brown's study, two thirds of all TQM implementations are dropped or fail altogether. However, organizations armed with knowledge of the factors that have the biggest impact on their success can take steps to influence or change those factors. In this paper, we studied on the degree of influence between those factors and successful start up and alignment factors. Based on extensive literature reviews those factors, threat, commitment, plan, progress and strategy are determined. Also we determine the successful start up and alignment factors. A framework of research including above factors is developed and tested statistically The Perceived data are collected from managers of quality departments of 141 Korean firms through survey. The results show that the rating of those factors which determine success of implementing TQM is progress, commitment, strategy and progress. But the factor of threat shows negative influence for the success of implementing TQM.

  • Superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs) provide one of the most effective solutions to cope with enormous increase of fault current level. The 13.2 kV/ 630 A class resistive SFCL using coated conductor (CC) was developed and its short-circuit test was successful. Successful commercialization of the SFCL requires that no loss is produced by impedance of limiting coil during normal operation. Since the limiting coil consists of inner layer and outer layer, gap length between the layers is an important parameter to analyze the electromagnetic characteristics of coil. This paper deals with the electromagnetic characteristics of coil according to gap length through the simulation and analysis in comparison with experiment results.

  • For the realization of the national self-defense, the trend of the defense R&D projects becomes global and diverse with the increase of their budget. Thus, for the effective execution of the budget and the successful performance of the projects, the importance of selection, management and evaluation of the R&D projects is emphasized. This study suggests the applicability of a meta-evaluation model for the realization of the successful defense R&D project evaluation system. This study focused on the development of the meta-evaluation model design which can be applicable to the national defense R&D projects. Using the proposed meta-evaluation model, we propose a technique to enhance the fairness and the reliability of the national defense R&D projects evaluation system.

  • Primary cardiac tumor is rare and the most Intracardiac tumor is atrial myxoma which occurs about 75% in left atrium, Biatrial myxomas are very rare Intracardiac tumor which have reported first by Ripstein in 1953 and successful surgical removal by Beeler and Kaufmann in 1961. We have experienced a case of biatrial myxomas intraoperatively which had diagnosed as left atrlal myxoma preoperatively and removed those under moderate hypothermia and cardiopulmonary bypass at the first In Korea, The patient was discharged with .good results, So we want to report this case with the review of the literatures.

  • We report a case of successful endovascular treatment of a pseudoaneurysm and the obstruction of an aorto-aortic bypass graft, which had been performed to treat Takayasu's arteritis fifteen years prior, at the thoracic aorta. Along with the immediate relief of proximal hypertension that had caused severe heart failure, the successful exclusion of the pseudoaneurysm and the patency of the stem graft were maintained three years after the procedure.

  • An increase in cardiac radiofrequency catheter ablation for treating refractory atrial fibrillation has resulted in an increased prevalence of complications. Among numerous complications of radiofrequency catheter ablation, atrio-esophageal fistula, although rare, is known to have fatal results. We report a case of successful management of an atrio-esophageal fistula as a complication of cardiac radiofrequency catheter ablation.

  • Taguchi method is a technique widely used in industries to attain a reliable quality even under existence of various noise variables. Basically, it relies on the interactions between the controllable and the noise factors. Under insignificant interactions between the design parameters and noises, the effectiveness of Taguchi methodology will be doubtful. Furthermore, existence of strong interactions among controllable factors may undermine the power of Taguchi approach. An abundant crop may be expected by a well planned Taguchi approach. A well designed set of experiments is one of the important prerequisites for its successful result. For this, we must have a clear understanding on strengths and weaknesses of Taguchi methodology together with a sound knowledge on the applicable system. This study provides some insights on Taguchi approach based on two case examples of one successful and the other unsuccessful. Eventually, this research aims to facilitate deeper understanding and right application of Taguchi methodology in industries.
