  • IT and communication technologies has contributed significantly to the convenience of passengers and the financial management of stations in accordance with the task automation in the field of the urban railway system. The foundation of the above development is based on the large amounts of data from various sensors installed in railways, trains, and stations. In particular, the sensor network that is installed in the station and train has played an important role in the railway information system. The performance of AP is affected by the number of APs and their locations installed in the station. In the installation of APs in stations, the intensity of the radio wave of the AP on its underlying position is considered to determine the number and position of APs. This paper proposes a method to estimate the number of APs and their position based on the structure of the underlying station and implemented a simulator to simulate the performance of the proposed method. The implemented simulator was applied to the decision of AP installation at Busan Seomyeon station to evaluate its performance.

  • In this paper, we describe the result of the test-bed on Nation-wide Interoperable Transportation System connected with Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System, which was developed by Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings, KOREAIL NETWORKS, HiPlusCard and Samsung SDS. we constructed Nation-wide Interoperable Transportation System on 4 downtown bus routes, 20 stations on line 1 subway, 2 stations of a train and 2 sections of the Honam highway in Gwangju and Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System in Seoul University IC Card Center. So we operated that by 480 Several staff were given a test card and asked to try it for about 6 months. This test-bed is for demonstrates the accuracy, safety and credibility of the Nation-wide Interoperability standard technology and it can be applied to all of transportation practically. When the staffs contact the card to Purchase terminal, the card performs transaction with Purchase SAM in the terminal, then transactions ara used to calculate in Settlement system and Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System. Through the test-bed, we examined this process and found unexpected problems happening during the test operation and have successfully solved them. In addition, the results of the test-bed let us know what additional improvement might be required for System. The successful run of the test-bed was verified by an evaluation of the test-bed staff and a public survey.

  • This paper is a follow-up to previous papers entitled, "Development of Tunnel-Environment Monitoring System and Its Installation" I [1] and II [2]. The target tunnel of these studies is the Solan Tunnel, which is a loop-type, single-track, 16.7-km-long tunnel located in mountainous terrain and passing through the Baekdudaegan mountain range. It is an ordinary railway tunnel designed for both freight and passenger trains. We analyzed the environmental conditions of the tunnel using temperature and humidity data recorded over approximately one year. The data were recorded using the Tunnel Rough Environment Measuring System (TREMS), which measures environmental data in subway and high-speed train tunnels and is installed in three locations inside the tunnel. Previous studies analyzed environmental conditions inside tunnels located in or near a city, whereas the tunnel in this study is located in a mountainous area. The tunnel conditions were compared with those measured outside the tunnel for each month. Hourly changes during summer and winter periods were also analyzed, and the environmental conditions at different locations inside the tunnel were compared. The results are widely applicable in studies on the thermal environment and air quality of tunnels, as well as for computer analysis of tunnel airflow such as tunnel ventilation and fire simulations.

  • In order to find out whether the traditional mass media in our society are sufficiently functioning as a vehicle of providing scientific information to the public outside the school education, public perception of science articles in mass media and scientific terms used in high frequency in science articles have been examined. To investigate the public perception on science articles, a questionnaire was constructed about the usefulness, importance, access frequency, and understanding of science articles. The questionnaires were conducted in areas with high flow populations such as train stations or subway stations. A total of 425 responses were used for analysis. In order to extract high frequency scientific terms used in science articles, two television companies and two newspapers were designated as target media, and their texts on science articles reported over the last 17 years were collected to investigate the frequency of scientific terms used. Based on the frequency, we conducted the self-report comprehension test for the top 100 scientific terms. The results of this study show that the public in our society has relatively high perception of the importance and usefulness of science articles, however, reading and understanding the articles seems to be somewhat difficult. In addition, the scientific terminology used in science articles has a high degree of comprehension for those of higher education, natural sciences majors, and men. In addition, scientific terms with high understanding degree were characterized according to gender, age, educational background, and field of major.

  • Recently, the new subway project called "Great Train Express" is in progress. During the tunnel excavation in the center of city, vibration and noise are generated, which make an uncomfortable effect on nearby residents. In order to prepare for this situation, the construction company generally establishes a noise and vibration management plan at the site from the construction planning stage through consultation with the residents of nearby areas and establishment of countermeasures for complaints raised. However, despite the establishment of a noise and vibration management plan, civil complaints have not been fundamentally resolved due to occurring noise and vibration during the construction in progress. In order to solve this problems, one of the best solution is to provide noise and vibration simulation technology with a high sense of reality and immersion for residents of nearby areas. Considering the ease and convenience of using the system, we intend to develop a UI(User Interface) necessary for the development of a simulation system that can directly experience the air blast and vibration based on virtual reality. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of virtual reality-based air blast and vibration simulations in the future.
