  • ATP(Automatic Train Protection) system in railroad signalling system is on-board signalling system which is controlled by train control information such as location and speed of trains. Safety is ensured by transmitting the train control information between on-board and wayside device in the ATP system. When an engineer disregards the speed limit on a tachometer, the train is automatically stopped by the on-board device. Recently, the studies of increasing speed of the train have been developed. Eurobalise in ERTMS/ETCS system is used in case that speed of trains is up to 500[km/h]. A study of safety braking distance is needed by increasing the speed of train in the ATP system. Train data and track data are required to calculate the safety braking distance. The train data includes formations of trains, length of trains, service brake and emergency brake etc. Also, the track data includes slope of track, curve of track, length of track, speed limit etc. In this paper, the speed profile is computed by analyzing the train and track data in the ATP system. It is demonstrated by applying to subway line 2 in Seoulmetro through the on-site test.

  • Ground-borne vibration is one of the main causes of environmental impact from subway systems. The vibration resulting from track-train interaction is transuutted through the tunnel structure and the surrounding ground to adjacent buildings. This paper provides a summary of proposed noise and vibration criteria, a review of the ground vibration propagation mechanism and the theoretical isolation effectivenesss of each of the following underground transit systems : track, tunnel and vehicle itself.

  • In this paper, the hazard factors on voltage rising effect between the rail and the earth were reviewed in subway system of AC traction line according to moving condition and location of the train. Site measuring of voltage rising between conductor part of train and station floor was performed to ascertain the risk level on the passenger. Plans for preventing hazard of rail-voltage rising and electrical shock on the passengers at platform were proposed.

  • Because contemporary rolling stock system is complex and highly advanced, and it builds mutual interface, it is necessary to manage maintenance of rolling stock systematically. This study present a case, which shows how to adopt and apply RTD(Remote Transmission Device) integrated to train information collection device. After the train service is complete and the train enters the main subway station, various kinds of information collected from TCMS(Train Control Monitoring System) is transmitted to train depot information collection device through RTD. This study suggests that RTD integrated to train information collection device helps build an effective rolling stock maintenance system by improving reliability of data transmission and cutting maintenance costs.

  • There is an increasing trend each year in the number of subway users due to increase in the traffic volume. As the number of train service has risen, the subway drivers are given heavy work and from the same, are put at risk of mental health deterioration due to stress. As this is directly connected to safety, there is an urgent need for improvement of the situation. Therefore, as a way to appropriately relieve such stress, resting space where mental and physical energy can be recharged is necessary. Thus, this research conducted a survey of demand with subway drivers as subjects in order to provide resting space that can offer healthy rest and increase work effectiveness. 50 subway drivers were the subjects of this survey. As a result of analyzing the contents of the survey, environmental satisfaction was shown to be the lowest compared to psychological and morphological satisfaction. In the case of sleeping room, they wanted more comfortable and individual space. And the waiting room had the highest rate of usage frequency. The storage space was where the subway drivers showed the strongest attachment and was shown to be the only personal space. Most were shown to be satisfied with the outdoor space, but it had the lowest usage frequency. In addition, it is nessasery customized storage cabinet designed for subway drivers should be produced, which can effectively arrange the limited space. I hope that these direction of improvement can increase the healthy rest and work effectiveness of the locomotive engineers as it is directly being connected to the health and safety of the citizens.

  • Subway in Korea, most of a metropolitan public transport use only worth ten million people a day floating population of wireless communication can be considered HOT SOPT. These three operators' 2G/3G/4G / Wi-Fi / T-DMB frequency and the number of services to co-exist, and the subway train passengers and subway party for operation and management of the communication network is also the co-subway passenger safety and for this service for the effects of mutual interference of whether the verification was necessary. This research and testing different frequency / communication interference between services and testing to determine whether, through the subway authorities and mobile operators in each frequency-specific interaction check and there is no interference to the safety and quality of subway passengers communication services that can be verified as the data was found. The verification methods in the metro area, not just from one region to determine whether the interference with a common verification methods can be applied.

  • The subway is the major public transportation system in Seoul with 2.2 million people using it everyday. Indoor air pollution in the subway can be a significant part of population exposure because of the number of people using the subway, time spent in transit and potentially high exposure for certain pollutants. The Korea Ministry of Environment has established the level 2 of recommended standards of $PM_{10}$ and $CO_2$ in subway trains. The aims of this study were to determine the airborne levels of $PM_{10}$, $CO_2$ and any correlation between pollutant levels and number of passenger in a subway train. The airborne $PM_{10}$ and $CO_2$ were measured on the inside of trains on line #4 for 4 different days from October to November in 2008. Average $PM_{10}$ and $CO_2$ levels were $113{\pm}25{\mu}g/m^3$ and $1402{\pm}442$ ppm, respectively. These levels did not exceed the level 2 of recommended standards of $250{\mu}g/m^3$ for $PM_{10}$ and 3500 ppm for $CO_2$. $PM_{10}$ level was not correlated with the number of passengers, while $CO_2$ levels were positively correlated with the number of passengers. The findings suggested that $PM_{10}$ in subway trains may have sources other than those directly associated with the number of passengers.

  • In general, transfer in subway stations is defined as transfer between lines and station transfer. In transfer between lines, passengers change from one subway line to another by utilizing horizontal pedestrian facilities such as transfer passages and pedestrian way. Station transfer appears in the situation that subway lines of enter and exit gate terminals differs from those of boarding and alighting trains and passenger trips utilize both vertical pedestrian facilities such as stair and escalator and horizontal facilities. The hypothesis on these two transfers presupposes that all subway lines are operated by either local train or express in subway network. This means that in a transfer case both local and express trains are operated in the same subway line, as a case of Seoul Metro Line 9, has not been studied. This research proposes a methodology of finding the same line transfer in the Seoul metropolitan subway network built based on the smart card network data by suggesting expanded network concept and a model that passengers choose a theirs minimum time routes.

  • There have been many changes in Subway train types since SeoulMetro opened the Line No.1 in 1974. Propulsion control device has changed many times following the generations of control method from resistance control method which uses large resistor for the traction motor control to chopping control which uses power semiconductors and finally to inverter control. Railroad vehicle propulsion control device refers to devices such as converter/inverter which supply power for subway operation, power conversion equipment like small switching-mode power supply and traction motor. In this paper, we will analyze every part of railroad vehicle propulsion control device of SeoulMetro so we can find problems in the subway operation. And we will present propulsion control device model which makes minimized failures, efficient maintenance possible when replacing railroad vehicle later. By doing this, we hope to ensure stability and improve energy efficiency to the top.
