Implementation of Visual Data Compressor for Vision Sensor of Mobile Robot (이동로봇의 시각센서를 위한 동영상 압축기 구현)

  • In recent years, vision sensors are widely used to mobile robot for navigation or exploration. The analog signal transmission of visual data being used in this area, however, has some disadvantages including noise weakness in view of the data storage. A large amount of data also makes it difficult to use this method for a mobile robot. In this paper, a digital data compressing technology based on MPEG4 which substitutes for analog technology is proposed to overcome the disadvantages by using DWT(Discreate Wavelet Transform) instead of DCT(Discreate Cosine Transform). The TI Company's DSP chip, TMS320C6711, is used for the image encoder, and the performance of the proposed method is evaluated by PSNR(Peake Signal to Noise Rates), QP(Quantization Parameter) and bitrate.

Operating Characteristics of Counterrotating Floating Ring Journal Bearings (역회전 프로팅링 저어널베어링의 운전특성)

  • The performance of the counterrotating floating ring journal bearing is analysed with isothermal finite bearing theory. The effect of counterrotating speed of the sleeve on the performance of the bearing is investigated. It is shown that counterrotating floating ring journal bearings properly designed can have considerable load capacity at the same counterrotating speed, while conventional circular journal bearing with one fluid film cannot. Investigating the relationship between the frictional torques on the ring due to the inner and outer films and the rotational speed of the ring, the stability of the equilibrium state is identified and the operating characteristics of the counterrotating floating ring journal bearing according to the method of acceleration or deceleration of the rotational speeds of the journal and sleeve are clarified. It is theoretically confirmed that floating ring journal bearings can be used in counterrotating journal-bearing system and become good substitutes for rolling bearings in counterrotating systems.

Forward Adaptive Prediction on Modified Integer Transform Coefficients for Lossless Image Compression (무손실 영상 압축을 위한 변형된 정수 변환 계수에 대한 순방향 적응 예측 기법)

  • This paper proposes a compression scheme based on the modified reversible integer transform (MRIT) and forward adaptive prediction for lossless image compression. JPEG XR is the newest image coding standard with high compression ratio and that composed of the Photo Core Transform (PCT) and backward adaptive prediction. To improve the efficiency and quality of compression, we substitutes the PCT and backward adaptive prediction for the modified reversible integer transform (MRIT) and forward adaptive prediction, respectively. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method are superior to the previous method of JPEG XR in terms of lossless compression efficiency and computational complexity.

  • This paper investigates the possibility that children in school limit their mothers' labor supply. The theoretical background for the possibility is that mothers may choose to stay home if their time and monetary inputs on children's quality investment are poor substitutes for each other. The empirical findings suggest that labor supply of highly educated women and those with high household income is relatively suppressed by their children in school.

  • There are ground facility of maintenance in house electric facility of infra maintenance electric home appliances having used multifariousness in house, that use electric energy of common source for equipment. The body of building such as the reinforced concrete construction is structurally united, and the electric resistance is also small. It is possible that those foundations have contacted the ground at large surface area and that it substitutes the building construction body for the earth electrode. This is called "the structure earthing". This method has been defined at electrical facilities technical standards and KS in our country, and it has been used in various quarters practically. However, in our country, there is no example of using the foundation of the house as substitution earth electrode practically, and the means of the evaluation as electrode has not been established either. Then, in this paper, basic research for utilizing foundation of the house as substitution earth electrode is carried out.

  • This article presents the performance evaluation case study of circuit-switched WCDMA R5MSC(Mobile Switching Center) Server and CS-MGW(Circuit Switched Media Gateway) in 3'rd generation mobile telecommunication (UMTS : Universal Mobile Telecommunication System). The presented work adopted circuit switching scenarios recommended by 3GPP(Third Generation Partnership Project) and terrestrial spectrum calculation parameters and its values defined in ITU-R M.2023 and M.1390 to do the case study on performance evaluation of circuit switched system (R5 MSC Server and CS-MGW) in WCDMA core network. This paper describes test results by using simulator which substitutes for wireless section (MS, Node-B, RNC).

  • Research for the synthesis of high-temperature polymers by the photochemical method has been carrying out. The use of cheap and available compounds (viz. benzene, its alkyl, aryl and halogen substitutes, furan and maleic anhydride) subject to ultra violet irradiation resulted in a single stage quantitative yield of about 40 new polymers: polyimide films, enamel insulation, molding materials. At present experimental & industrial lots of wire have been produced. Polymer insulation possesses temperature exploitation range (from -l00$^{\circ}C$ to +300$^{\circ}C$ ) without significant changing of properties. As a result, new polyimide lacquers for production of a wide number of technical articles, such as polyimide films, fibres, enamel-wires, press-materials have been synthesized. An application field of the polyimides in membrane technology, printing plate and optic electronics manufactures has been outlined.

Experimental Study on Modifiable Walking Pattern Generation for Handling Infeasible Navigational Commands

  • To accommodate various navigational commands, a humanoid should be able to change its walking motion in real time. Using the modifiable walking pattern generation (MWPG) algorithm, a humanoid can handle dynamic walking commands by changing its walking period, step length, and direction independently. If the humanoid is given a command to perform an infeasible movement, the algorithm substitutes the infeasible command with a feasible one using binary search. The feasible navigational command is subsequently translated into the desired center-of-mass (CM) state. Every sample time CM reference is generated using a zero-moment-point (ZMP) variation scheme. Based on this algorithm, various complex walking patterns can be generated, including backward and sideways walking, without detailed consideration of the feasibility of the navigational commands. In a previous study, the effectiveness of the MWPG algorithm was verified by dynamic simulation. This paper presents experimental results obtained using the small-sized humanoid robot platform DARwIn-OP.

An Empirical Analysis on the Substitutability and the Complementarity between Fixed and Mobile Telecommunication Services (유무선 통신서비스 간 상호 대체성 및 보완성에 관한 실증분석)

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine whether there are relationships of substitutability or complementarity between the call demand of fixed telecommunication and mobile telecommunication services. In order to clarify the relationships, we suggest a model of call demand of fixed telecommunication service which incorporates the variables representing the diffusion of mobile telecommunications subscription and estimate it with relevant time series data. Finally it is shown that there is complementary relationship between the call demand of fixed telecommunication and mobile paging services, and it is also found that there is substitutable relationship between the long distance call demand of fixed telecommunication and mobile phone services.

  • An object of the present study is to provide a hollow fiber membrane humidifier capable of improving the humidification efficiency while lowering the pressure loss, and is suitably usable for PEMFC(Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell). The performance of PEMFC is decisively dependent on the humidity of the electrolyte membrane(fluorinated membrane) and a humidifier plays an important role in moisturizing electrolyte membrane. Especially this humidifier is adaptable for lower price to promote the commercialization of fuel cell vehicles and is passive type to be power free and to be volumetrically optimized. In this research, we propose the substitutes for the expensive fluorinated materials and the optimum dry-jet wet spinning conditions of hollow fiber membrane to get the fuel cell humidifier. In addition to that we established the standard method of evaluating the moisturizing performance of the humidifier of various materials.
