Purpose: Various treatment techniques have been attempted for the radiotherapy of anal cancer because of acute side effects such as perineal skin reactions. This study was performed to investigate an optimal radiotherapy technique in anal cancer. Materials and Methods: The study subjects included 35 patients who underwent definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy for anal cancer in Yonsei Cancer Center between 1990 and 2007. The patients' clinical data, including irradiation technique, were reviewed retrospectively. The primary lesion, regional lymph nodes, and both inguinal lymph nodes were irradiated by $41.4{\sim}45\;Gy$ with a conventional schedule, followed by a boost does to the primary lesion or metastatic lymph nodes. The radiotherapy technique was classified into four categories according to the irradiation field and number of portals. In turn, acute skin reactions associated with the treatment interruption period were investigated according to each of the four techniques. Results: 28 patients (80.0%) had grade 2 radiation dermatitis or greater, whereas 10 patients (28.6%) had grade 3 radiation dermatitis or greater during radiotherapy. Radiation dermatitis and the treatment interruption period were relatively lower in patients belonging to the posterior-right-left 3 x-ray field with inguinal electron boost and in patients belonging to electron thunderbird techniques. The interruption periods were $8.2{\pm}10.2$ and $5.7{\pm}7.7$ for the two technique groups, respectively. Twenty-seven patients (77.1%) went into complete remission at 1 month after radiotherapy and the overall 5 year survival rates were 67.7%. Conclusion: Field size and beam arrangement can affect patients' compliance in anal cancer radiotherapy, whereas a small x-ray field for the perineum seems to be helpful by decreasing severe radiation dermatitis.
The purpose of this study is to develope and apply NIE programs related to sub-chapter 'The Change of Weather and Circulation of Water' in 2nd grade science text book of middle school, and thereby to investigate the effects of NIE approach on science-related attitude and teaming achievement of students, and interaction between treatment methods and students' learning ability. Subjects consisted of 2nd grade students of four classes in a girls middle school located at the southern part of Seoul. Four classes were divided into experimental and control groups by two classes randomly. The experimental groups have been instructed on the related-general concepts for six times and then received seven NIE programs developed by researcher for seven times. The control groups have received the instruction through the conventional teaching method. The NIE learning has been progressed following the steps using in the Iowa Chautaugua Program, e.g. invite, explore, propose explanation and solutions, and take action. NIE programs, e.g. project studying, topic studying and a crossword puzzle have been developed and applied using 'science first' approach of the STS instruction. Twenty questions related to social implications of science and leisure interest in science within seven frameworks of TOSRA have been used in this study as an evaluation instrument of science-related attitude. Learning achievement has been evaluated using an instrument developed by researcher. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. (1) NIE approach was more effective in progressing learning achievement of middle school students than conventional teaching method (p<.01). (2) Experimental groups show statistically significant improvement on science-related attitude than control groups (p<.01). There were no significant interactions between treatment methods and students' learning ability on learning achievement and leisure interest in science. The NIE approach were more effective than the conventional one on social implications of science, especially to low ability students.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of undergraduates of the college of education on the importance of certification areas and factors suggested by the certification system at each department level as well as the college as a whole, in order to come up with measures for further improvement. The specific objectives of this study are first, verifying different perception on the importance of certification areas and factor per department, second, verifying different perception on the importance of certification areas and factor per grade. The population of this study is undergraduates of the college of education at A University, and the survey on the different perception on the importance was conducted on 758 students of 10 departments. Total 800 copies of survey were distributed, and 299 copies or 37.3% were retrieved. First, it was found that undergraduates of the college of education at A University highly recognize the necessity of a new system to produce excellent teachers. when it comes to different department, in the area of teaching personalities, there is difference in the importance of teaching aptitude test and completion of social intelligence development program. In the area of teaching expertise, there is different perception in the importance of completion of curriculum education subjects per major, completion of curriculum contents per major, and participation in teaching demonstration contest. In the area of student guidance expertise, there is difference by department in completion of creative character development related education programs and "teaching practice" course. In the area of communication skills in the information society, minimum score requirement for a second foreign language is considered less important than others. Second, as for grade, freshmen highly recognize the importance of validity of teaching training course, integrity of the course, validity of the teaching training course in producing excellent teachers, graduates' job performing ability development as a teacher, appropriacy of curriculum of the college of education in producing excellent teachers, compared to other grades. In particular, seniors consider the necessity of a new system to produce excellent teachers the most.
North Korea relies heavily on coal as the primary energy source, playing an important role in all energy demand sectors except for the transportation sector. Approximately half of the total electricity is generated through coal-fired power plants, and coal is used to produce heat and power for all industrial facilities. Furthermore, coal has been a significant contributor to earning foreign currency through long-term exports to China. Nevertheless, since the 1980s, indiscriminate mining activities have led to rapid depletion of coal production in most coal mines. Aging mine facilities, lack of investment in new equipment, shortages of fuel and electricity, difficulties in material supply, and frequent damage from flooding have collectively contributed to a noticeable decline in coal production since the late 1980s. North Korea's coal deposits are distributed in various geological formations from the Proterozoic to the Cenozoic, but the most critical coal-bearing formations are Ripsok and Sadong formations distributed in the Pyeongnam Basin of the Late Paleozoic from Carboniferous to Permian, which are called as Pyeongnam North and South Coal Fields. Over 90% of North Korea's coal is produced in these coal fields. The classification of coal in North Korea differs from the international classification based on coalification (peat, lignite, sub-bituminous coal, bituminous coal, and anthracite). North Korean classification based on industrial aspect is classified into bituminous coal, anthracite, and low-grade coal (Chomuyeontan). Based on the energy factor, it is classified into high-calorie coal, medium calorie coal, and low-calorie coal. In North Korea, the term "Chomuyeontan" refers to a type of coal that is not classified globally and is unique to North Korea. It is a low-grade coal exclusively used in North Korea and is not found or used in any other country worldwide. This article compares North Korea's coal classification and the international coal classification of coal and provides insights into the geological characteristics, reserves, utilization, and research trends of North Korean coal resources. This study could serve as a guide for preparing scientific and industrial agendas related to coal collaboration between North Korea and South Korea.
This paper describes the effects of Novel Engineering(NE) on improvement of creative problem-solving abilities. We performed two classes for control and experience group. They are all 5th grade students. Core concept of the NE lesson is ecosystem and interaction with 8 hours long. We designed a lesson able to integrate subjects like Korean, Science and Practical Arts. Then we performed pre-and-post t-test on creative problem-solving ability. The experimental results showed that NE lesson has a high effects on 4 sub-elements like self conviction and independence, diffusion thinking, critical thinking and motivational component. The research showed that NE class is a good teaching-learning method to cultivate various competencies for our children. NE is a convergence learning model integrating various problem-solving paradigms ever researched. Thus we expect that NE is a foundation for convergence curriculum model to lead our children to their future and get settled to all schools.

The purpose of this study was to develop a concept test tool for seasonal change with reliability and validity, and to objectively observe and analyze sub-concepts and misconceptions related to the concept of seasonal change to explain the relationship between variables. The development process of the conceptual change concept inspection tool consisted of the development of the inspection tool development plan, the development of the inspection tool draft, the modification of the preliminary inspection and inspection tools, the development of the final inspection tool, and the implementation of this inspection. The developed test tool can be used to provide students with appropriate learning and help by examining students' degree of seasonal change concept formation and analyzing the cause of the difficulty in concept formation. As a result of regression analysis of 198 students in 6th grade using the developed test tool, it was found that the understanding of pre-learning concept and correction of misconception had a statistically significant effect on the concept learned in the seasonal change unit, and misconception had greater effect. Correction of misconceptions had a significant effect on students above the average score among the two sections created and cut based on the average score, and on the students below the average score, the understanding of pre-learning concept had a significant effect.

The bronchus-asociated lymphoid tissue(BALT) lymphoma is a low-grade primary malignant lymphoma that originates from bronchus associated lymphoid tissue. A 67-year-old woman was admitted for evaluation of cough, sputum, rhinorrhea which had persisted for one month. Physical examination showed decreased breathing sound on the left upper lung field. High resolution chest computed tomography demonstrated consolidation which showed air-bronchogram and surrounding ground glass opacity in left upper lobe. These findings implicated inactive tuberculosis, organizing pneumonia, or bronchiolo-alveolar carcinoma. The histologic findings from percutaneous needle aspiration biopsy revealed aggregated atypical small lymphoid cells with lymphoepithelial lesions. With immunohistochemical staining, the atypical lymphoid cells reacted positively with CD 20 antibody and negatively with CD 3 antibody. Thus, we could diagnosed her as a patient with BALT lymphoma. After left upper lobectomy, she has been well without recurrence of the disease for 14 months. In this country of Republic of Korea, it was the 1st case of BALT lymphoma surgically treated when histological diagnosis had been done. Based on this case, we wanted to demonstrate the importance of early histological diagnosis and treatment of BALT lymphoma.
The purpose of the study is to investigate the applicability of portfolio assessment to ordinary elementary science classes, and the effects of a portrolio assessment on students' science achievement, inquiry ability, and science attiudes. Two schools were sampled from a metropolitan area, a city, and three schools from rural area in central Korea. Two fifth-grade classes were sampled from each school selected, and one class is assigned to experimental group and the other to control group, respectively. The total number of participants of the study are 475. Portfolio assessmest was administered to experimental group, and conventional teaching to control group for two and half month. Science achievement test, science inquiry ability test, and science attitudes test were administered as a pre- and post-test. Portfolio asseddment seems to be applecable to ordinary elementary science classroom. Statistically meaningful difference was not found in students' science achievemant by group, region, and sex. Students' inquiry ability and science attitudes showed statistically meaningful difference by region rather than group. Experimental group showed more positive scores on some sub-domains of science attitudes, such as perception on science education, and science career, interests in science activity, and criticism. In conclusion, portfolio assessment can be applicable to ordinary dldmentary science classrooms. The effects of portfolio assessment are at least the same as the traditional teaching on student science achievement, inquiry ability, and science attitudes.
Purpose The cold hypersensitivity is a subjective symptom and it is very difficult to evaluate the severity. It is possible to detect cold hypersensitivity by measuring the skin temperature on DITI, but there is limitation only using DITI to find the objective grade of the symptom. To set a new objective standard for the diagnosis of cold hypersensitivity, we examined the relationship between the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score for the cold hypersensitivity and the change of skin temperature on hands by cold stress test Method 23 patients with symptom of cold hypersensitivity were participated as subjects who visited the women medical center of Kangnam Kyunghee Korean Hospital, Kyung Hee Univ. from May 1, 2002 to August 31, 2002. There were all carefully examined to rule out other disease such as obesity, skin diseases, spinal nerve lesions and external wounds. Thermographic observations for this study were made using DITI. We performed cold stress test three times to compare with the results from thermographic observations by DITI: first, after 15 minutes-resting, second, right after 1 minutes soak in $20^{\circ}C$ water, the third for last, 10 minutes after the soak. VAS score was chosen to determine the severity of cold hypersensitivity. Result 1 male and 22 female patients were participated ranging in age from 22.17 to 45.21. There was a significant negative correlation between the recovery rate of finger skin temperature after cold stress test and the VAS score. And there was a significant positive correlation between the difference of finger skin temperature and the back and palm of hands after cold stress test and the VAS score. Conclusion In cold hypersensitivity patients, the cold stress test combined with DITI could be a accurate method for the objective evaluation of cold hypersensitivity, especially good at deciding the severity by numeric values. Using a more strict criterion, as diagnosing of cold hypersensitivity, and longer follow-up may improve the validity of the results attained in clinical trials.

In conceptual ecology, a concept does not exist independently but occupies an ecological niche in ecological environment. Among many biological concepts, genetic concepts are connected to several units including the genetics unit, and within the genetics unit the concepts of sub-areas are highly dependent on one another. For this reason, we analyzed conceptual diversity and conceptual proximity of genetic concepts through the ecological niche approach. For this purpose, we surveyed 995 9th graders. The areas covered in the survey were four genetic concepts: gene, chromosome, mitosis, and meiosis. The questionnaire presented biological concepts or terms related to each area, and the respondent marked the relevance between the presented biological concepts or terms and each area on a scale of 1~30 points. With 9th grade students, we analyzed the change of genetic concepts through class by the ecological niche approach. Through class, the total number of concepts increased in all of the areas, and the increase was smallest in the area of meiosis followed by mitosis, chromosome and gene. Relative density decreased with increases in the number of concepts. The conceptual diversity index also increased through class in all of the areas, and the increase was smallest in the area of meiosis followed by mitosis, chromosome and gene. In addition, difference in the relative density of concepts was reduced after class, and difference in the score of relevance was also reduced and consequently similarity among concepts increased. From these results were drawn conclusions as follows: First, through class, the conceptual diversity of genetic concepts increased. Second, through class, the conceptual proximity of genetic concepts increased.
