The effect of disaster and safety cognition, and safety education perception on disaster preparedness (안전 및 재난인식, 안전교육지각이 재난대처역량에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to provide basic information for university students to improve disaster preparedness by identifying disaster and safety cognition, safety education perception and identifying factors influencing disaster preparedness. Methods: Selected articles were programmed statistically by SPSS to analyze 162 third and fourth-year students in Chungcheong-do, from December 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022. The general characteristics of the subject with the effect of disaster and safety cognition, safety education perception, and disaster preparedness was analyzed by t-test and ANOVA. Results: Disaster preparedness had a positive correlation with Disaster and safety cognition (r=.499, p<.001) and safety education perception (r=.328, p<.001). Furthermore, the influencing factors on disaster preparedness were sex (β=0.17, p<.011), disaster and safety cognition (β=0.39, p<.001), and 28% was explanatory power. Conclusion: Preparing educational method for strengthening safety and disaster cognition requires improving the disaster preparedness of university students, and a new educational approach to program development to elevate disaster and safety cognition at the university level.

Study on Meta-cognition, Self-efficiency, Clinical competence of nursing students (간호대학생의 메타인지, 자기효능감, 임상수행능력의 융복합적 영향)

  • This study examined the influence of meta-cognition, self-efficiency and clinical competence in nursing students. A convenience sample of 153 subjects were recruited from fourth year nursing students, and the survey was conducted from September 1st to 30th 2015. The data were collected by questionnaires and analyzed SPSS/Win 18.0 program, using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, t-test, one-way ANOVA and hierarchical regression. Significant positive correlation among the meta-cognition, self-efficiency and clinical competence were found. The regression model explained 27% of the clinical competence. The meta-cognition and self-efficiency for the nursing students were factors influencing clinical competence. Therefor, it is necessary develop an educational program to improve the meta-cognition and self-efficiency of nursing students.

An Analysis on Views of Nature of Science and Science Inquiry of Science Gifted Students (과학 영재의 과학 본성과 탐구 관점 분석)

  • This study aims to find out science talented students' percentage of cognition about the views of nature of science and science inquiry which are essential for having a good understanding with science concepts. Each group of 40 science gifted students and 35 ordinary students was tested with a test of views of nature of science and science inquiry which consisted of 19 items with index of content validity 97% and reliability index 0.86, then its results being compared and analyzed. A group of science gifted students' percentage of cognition about the views of nature of science ranges from 20% to 97.5% -although it differs according to detailed views-showing its mean of 67% (50% in a group of ordinary students). Especially, the percentage of cognition about the sub view that there can be different opinions among scientists was high among woman science gifted students. A group of science gifted students' percentage of cognition about the views of science inquiry ranges from 27.5% to 77.5% -although it differs according to detailed views- showing 53% in their mean (41.8% in a group of ordinary students). Especially, the percentage of cognition about the sub view that scientists can have different research methods was high among woman science gifted students. The percentage of mistaken cognition by science gifted students about views of nature of science and about views of science inquiry was 33%, 47% respectively.

Analysis of Students' Cognition for Enrichment Mathematics Textbook Tasks' Levels of Cognitive Demand (심화수학 교과서 과제의 인지적 노력수준에 대한 학생 인식 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the actual realization of the opportunity to learn given to students by examining students' cognition for enrichment mathematics textbook tasks' levels of cognitive demand. First, we analyze characteristics and limitations based on the theoretical framework. Second, we examine students' cognition about the distribution of the mathematics textbook tasks' levels of cognitive demand. And we analyze how the opportunity to learn actually work. Third, in the sense that enrichment textbooks are textbooks for science school students, we analyze whether the opportunity to learn for gifted is offered. The conclusion is as follows: First, with respect to levels of cognitive demand, PNC tasks account most. Second, students also cognize that PNC tasks account most. Third, tasks for gifted are not offered and students also cognize that opportunity to learn for gifted is lacked.

Analysis of Metacognition Interaction based on Robot lesson (로봇활용수업에서의 초인지적 상호작용 분석연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze student's metacognition interaction based on a robot lesson. For this research as an analytical metacognition interaction tool was utilized. The results of this study revealed that, first, elementary school students had more metacognition interaction in middle learning levels but middle school students had more in the low learning level. Second, in the low learning level, middle school students revised the initiated goal strategy of the robot lesson. Third, in all learning levels, students showed much diagnosis and assesment metacognition interaction in the robot lesson. According to this study's results, the robot lesson has a positive effect in facilitating diagnosis meta cognition for processing of task performance. These results could provide effective cues and information on how to improve the robot lesson.

University Students' Images, Knowledge, and Stereotypes plus Perceptions about the Elderly (대학생의 노인 이미지, 지식과 고정관념 및 인식)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the images, knowledge, and stereotypes plus perceptions about the elderly between students in nursing class and those in other classes and to determine the correlation among variables. Methods: The subjects of this study were 400 students, 200 from nursing class and 200 from other classes(premedical students were excluded) from one university. Result: Images the elderly of all participants showed an average score of 2.96(${\pm}0.376$), total average score of knowledge about the elderly was 16.22(${\pm}2.356$), and average score for stereotypes plus perception was 2.92(${\pm}0.394$). Comparison between students in nursing class and those in the other classes showed that students in the nursing class had deeper knowledge regarding physical and physiological fields of the elderly, however they had comparatively negative cognition in the images and stereotypes plus perceptions about the elderly. In addition interest in the elderly and volunteer experiences were significantly affected by the images and stereotypes plus perceptions. Images, knowledge, and stereotypes plus perceptions about the elderly showed significant positive correlation. Conclusion: In development of curriculum related to the elderly in nursing class, development of specific and diverse approaches that will raise positive awareness of the elderly is necessary.

Relationship between the High School Chemistry I, II, and the General Chemistry, and College Students' Cognition about the Subject (대학교 일반화학과 고등학교 화학 I, 화학 II 교과의 연계성 및 일반화학에 대한 대학생들의 인식조사)

  • The chemistry has the academic system in which a concept is jointly developed into the single strain, so the contents of the chemistry I II of the high school are very important in the connection of the general chemistry in the university. At this moment, it is possible for high school graduates to be accepted into science or engineering majors without taking the chemistry II. These the highest intensive election subject cause problems of differences in level of understanding and difficult of quality educations. In this study, we have analyzed similarity between the contents of the chemistry I II and the general chemistry. We also analyzed the cognition level of students without taking the chemistry II in understanding the general chemistry level classes. We found that the high school level chemistry I and II introduced about 27% and 62% of the essential concepts required for the general chemistry, respectively. In a case of M university in Chonnam, about 70% of students in the general chemistry classes have no exposure to the chemistry II in their high schools, causing difficulty of understanding new subjects due to their insufficient concepts for classes. The lack of knowledge caused lowering of learning achievement and decrease of interests in chemistry.

Mediating Effect of Need of Cognition on Learning Engagement in Distance Education (원격교육에서 학습참여에 대한 인지욕구의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify whether need of cognition have a mediating effect on media multitasking on learning engagement in online education. The subjects were 168 university students who had received online education for more than one semester, and data were collected using questionnaires on media multitasking, need of cognition, and learning engagement. For data analysis, correlation, hierarchical regression and Sobel test were performed using SPSS WIN 20.0 program. As a result of the study, there was a significant positive correlation between media multitasking and learning engagement (r=.52, p<.001), and a between need of cognition and learning engagement(r=.39, p<.001). Media multitasking had a significant effect on learning participation (β=.52, p<.001), and explanatory power was 27%. When need of cognition was input, the effect of media multitasking on learning engagement decreased (β=.52 ⟶ .44), so it was found that need of cognition had a partial mediating effect in the effect of media multitasking on learning engagement(Z=2.77). p<.01). Therefore, it is suggested to use online contents with learning to organizing a g a lesson syllabus for distance education, and to organize activities promoting media multitasking activities. Also, it is proposed to develop and apply various teaching strategies to promoting the need of cognition in the distance education.

Effects on Nursing Students of Cognition-Behavior Integrated Breast Cancer Prevention Education Using an Interchangeable Nodule Model (결절교체 유방모형을 이용한 인지.행동 통합 유방암 예방교육 효과 -간호학생을 대상으로-)

  • Purpose: The study was done to examine the effects of cognition-behavior integrated breast cancer prevention education, in which a breast model with interchangeable nodules was utilized, on the self-competency of nursing students in performing breast cancer education. Methods: A nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design was used. A traditional lecture intervention was provided for 49 3rd year college of nursing students (control group) while the integrated breast cancer prevention education was given to 47 3rd year students in the same college one year later (experimental group). The integrated breast cancer prevention education was developed by the research team to strengthen the competency of cognitive and behavioral components in education on breast cancer. Results: Effects of the intervention were found to be significant through all study variables: knowledge about breast cancer (t=7.79, p <.001), breast cancer risk awareness (t=2.05, p <.05), self-competency of breast self-exam (t=8.27, p <.001), and intention to teach breast self-exam (t=3.87, p <.001). Conclusion: The integrated breast cancer prevention education was useful to improve not only knowledge about breast cancer but competency in performing breast examination for nursing students who acquired technical skills from various simulation nodules. As the program helped the students to be prepared as confident educators, future application of the module is recommended for academic curricula.

The Effect and Cognition of Open-Inquiry Lesson using Lubric on the Elementary Student's Open-Inquiry (루브릭을 활용한 자유탐구 지도가 초등학생의 자유탐구에 미치는 영향 및 인식 조사)

  • The purpose of this research is to find the effect of the lesson using open-inquiry report Lubric on open-inquiry standard and science process skill; to find the change of cognition on open-inquiry for elementary school 5th grade students. Two classes (elementary school 5th grade) were selected which located in a small and medium-sized city for this research and they were separated as an experimental group and a comparative group. Open-inquiry lesson was done by referring teaching method which introduced through the curriculum. The procedure was understanding about open-inquiry, making open-inquiry subject, planning, and performing inquiry, mid-term, performing inquiry, making a report, presentation, and evaluation. Open-inquiry report Lubric which developed by Sook-Kyung Kim et al. (2010) was provided to the experimental group. Comparative group was instructed by using open-inquiry report which introduced to the elementary school 5th grade science text book. Interview paper was developed in order to check out the effect of the research by using a test paper of science process skill. The following could be found out through the research. After open-inquiry lesson, 10 open-inquiry reports(5 reports from experimental group, 5 reports from comparative group) have been drawn at random as samples from the total 62 sets (30 reports from experimental group, 32 reports from comparative group) and evaluated by a researcher and two elementary school teachers who have master degree. The reliability of the 3 scorers was 0.923 of mean correlation coefficient. And then the researcher evaluated all open-inquiry reports. The average score of open-inquiry report was 66.78 for experimental group, 54.27 for comparative group, respectively. And there was a significant difference at p<0.05 level as a result of the t-test. The experimental group rated high at p<0.05 level according to the analysis of post-science process skill test. According to the result of survey, both experimental group and comparative group had understood open-inquiry activity. It was especially rated high for experimental group on understanding scientific inquiry process, interest and satisfaction in open-inquiry and re-participation rate. By interviewing experimental group, it is recognized that the students utilized Lubric very well through the overall process. Finally, self-evaluation was done during open-inquiry activity and it was reported that the students gained more knowledge about science and changed to positive about science. As a result, the lesson using open-inquiry report Lubric was effective for students to improve writing skill of an open-inquiry report and science process skill and finally changed the cognition to positive about open-inquiry lesson.
