Advanced Pixel Structure for Higher Aperture Ratio in TFT-LCD

  • An advanced TFT-LCD structure was proposed to increase aperture ratio (AR). In this structure, metal layers formed below the data lines are used as light-blocking layers, achieving higher AR ratio than that of a conventional structure. Since average misalignment between the metal light-blocking layers and pixel electrodes is smaller than that of black matrixes on color filter glass, substantially less light-blocking areas are needed to achieve misalignment margin. The AR of the LCD panel fabricated by using proposed structure was enhanced by 18.7 % over that of the conventionally structured panel.

SOAP 를 이용한 웹기반의 제품개발시스템 (Web-based Product Development System Using SOAP)

  • Better understanding and sharing information are getting important to manage interdisciplinary product development team in a globally-distributed company. This study proposes a solution to implement RPD(Rapid Product Development) system for the distributed development teams using SOAP(Simple Object Access Protocol). And a new approach is introduced for the better understanding of product geometry among the development members in different place and the easy sharing of product information. An application example shows that SOAP operates in distributed environment more efficiently than other RPC(Remote Procedure Call) techniques and it does not respond sensitively to firewall. And SOAP is an excellent RPC and messaging technique to exchange structured data. Procedures developed with use of SOAP are worked together with web, and users can use remote services as an application program in their local computer.

  • Since product design strongly depends on the experience and ability of the designers, and a long lead time is required for the product design stage, introducing a support system related to this experience and ability is an effective technique to reduce the lead time. In this paper, an information system is developed to support the development of engineering mechanisms with the evaluation of the assembly process on the basis of the abstract functions required for new products. The developed system is based on a database system involving the following data structure: (1) a hierarchical structure related to information about the product functions, (2) the relationship between the parts and engineering functions and/or mechanisms of products, and (3) the relationship between the parts and manufacturing characteristics. The system stores the relationships between the product functions, structure of parts, and assembly characteristics. This information can then be interactively retrieved using the data structure described in (1), (2), and (3). A procedure for designing new products is proposed that involves using the information about existing products. This paper presents the characteristics of the proposed procedure and the developed information system. In addition, a case study of the redesign of a simple structured robot by using the proposed procedure is discussed.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-layered architecture of workflow management systems based on CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture). The system aims to support product development processes in distributed environment. Many companies have started to adopt workflow management systems to manage and support their business processes. However, there are many problems in direct application of those systems to product development environments. These mainly resulted from the dynamic features of product development processes. It is strongly required to support dynamic processes as well as static and procedural ones in an integrated and consistent manner. To meet these requirements, a basic workflow management system has been developed as the core component of the integrated architecture. This performs the basic functions of workflow management system. Second, a dynamic workflow management system based on a bidding mechanism has been developed to manage processes that cannot be easily defined or are likely to be modified, Finally, an SGML workflow management system, which is the third layer in the architecture, has been developed to manage documents processing workflows by integration SGML documents contents and process information into the structured SGML document.

Option을 고려한 객체지향형 Product Structure 설계 (The Object-Oriented Design of the Product Structure Based on Options)

  • As a product structure or BOM(bill of material) of products is hierarchically structured, the design based on the concept of relational data base modeling causes low performances in data search or processing. For this reason, an object-oriented approach to designing a product structure is proposed in this paper. Using Rumbaugh's OMT (Object Modeling Technique) method, classes of parts, BOM structure, options, and models are defined and their class-relationship diagrams are proposed. For the representation of the BOM structure suitable for the object-oriented paradigm, a new data architecture called the BOM item class is suggested. It is expected that the proposed data structure ensures better reusability and expandability due to the modularity.

  • Various eco-design tools have been developed which can be classified into quantitative, semi-quantitative, and qualitative tools. Practitioners are reluctant to utilize quantitative tools in light of their time-demanding nature. Among the qualitative tools, checklists are simple tools that allow a quick and effective evaluation and consideration of environmental impacts over the entire life cycle of a product. A profound and better understanding of eco-design checklists is needed so that practitioners can apply them appropriately to their product development context. Various types of eco-design checklists are analyzed in the present study based on their attributes and classified in a structured way for their efficient utilization in product development contexts.

  • 개방, 공유, 참여를 특징으로 하는 웹 2.0 시대로 들어서면서 인터넷 사용자들의 데이터 생산 및 공유가 쉬워졌다. 이에 따른 데이터의 기하급수적인 증가와 함께 디지털 정보의 대부분인 비정형적 데이터(Unstructured Data)의 양도 증가하고 있다. 인터넷에서 정해진 형식 없이 자연어 형태로 만들어진 비정형 데이터 중, 특정 상품들에 대해 개인이 평가한 리뷰들은 해당 기업이나 해당 상품에 관심이 있는 잠재적 고객에게 필요한 데이터이다. 많은 양의 리뷰 데이터에서 상품에 대한 유용한 정보를 얻기 위해서는 데이터 수집, 저장, 전처리, 분석, 및 결론 도출의 과정이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구는 R을 이용한 텍스트 마이닝(Text Mining) 기법을 사용하여 텍스트 형식의 비정형 데이터에서 자연어 처리 기술 및 문서 처리 기술을 적용하여 정형화된 데이터 값을 도출하는 방법에 대해 소개한다. 또한, 도출된 정형화된 리뷰 정보를 데이터 마이닝 기법에 적용하여 목적에 맞게 맞춤화된 리뷰 정보를 도출시키는 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

Impacts of Value Inclination and Self-Expressive Consuming Propensity upon Eco-Friendly Product Purchasing Intention

  • Purpose - This study classified consumers' value inclination to find out ways to enhance consumers' eco-friendly product purchase intention. Further, it verified the differences among eco-friendly product purchase intentions depending upon value inclination. Research design, data, and methodology - The structured model and hypotheses were established, and 202 copies of effective questionnaires were used. In order to verify the hypotheses, we used single regression analysis, multiple regression, 3-step mediating regression, and path analysis. Results - Individualism had a positive influence upon materialism, need for uniqueness, and face wants, and collectivism had a positive influence upon materialism only. Factors of self-expressive consumption inclination had a positive influence upon eco-friendly product purchase intention, and factors of value inclination also had a positive influence. Finally, self-expressive consumption inclination mediated between value inclination and eco-friendly product purchase intention. Conclusion - Consumers with individualism inclination felt the need to connect the ownership of an eco-friendly product with their extended self and, further, it was clear that not only the government but also enterprises should build up their public image regarding eco-friendly products.

A risk analysis of step-down equity-linked securities based on regime-switching copula

  • The globalization of financial markets has broadened investment opportunities. International investors' investment portfolios consist of financial instruments from various countries; consequently, the risks associated with economic dependence among countries should be carefully considered. Step-down equity-linked securities (ELS) are a structured financial product that have recently become popular among Korean investors. Payoffs are based on two or three stock indices from different regions; therefore, dependence between the indices should be reflected in the risk analysis. In this study, we consider a regime-switching copula model to describe the joint behavior of two stock indices- the Eurostoxx50 and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI). These indices are commonly used as underlying assets of step-down ELS. Using historical data, we analyze the risk associated with step-down ELS through the probabilities of early redemption. A regime-switching copula model can accommodate complicated dependence. Thus, it should be considered in the risk analysis of step-down ELS.

Construction of Structured q-ary LDPC Codes over Small Fields Using Sliding-Window Method

  • In this paper, we consider the construction of cyclic and quasi-cyclic structured q-ary low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes over a designated small field. The construction is performed with a pre-defined sliding-window, which actually executes the regular mapping from original field to the targeted field under certain parameters. Compared to the original codes, the new constructed codes can provide better flexibility in choice of code rate, code length and size of field. The constructed codes over small fields with code length from tenths to hundreds perform well with q-ary sum-product decoding algorithm (QSPA) over the additive white Gaussian noise channel and are comparable to the improved spherepacking bound. These codes may found applications in wireless sensor networks (WSN), where the delay and energy are extremely constrained.
