This study provides an improved transportation mode choice models applicable to the Busan-Ulsan Metropolitan area by scrutinizing previous study results developed using the multinomial logit model. Although the previous model has an appropriate modeling structure in terms of the sign of coefficient estimates and goodness-of-fit, the model ignores the total number of trips and traffic congestion condition between the two zones and partially reflects zone-specific variables and choice set. Therefore, this study considered all of these modeling faults by re-constructing the representative utility functions. The modeling results show that travelers in Busan-Ulsan metropolitan area tend to choose their mode using mode-specific characteristics rather than the classical travel time and/or cost variables.
The development of models for agriculture systems, especially for crop production, has supported the prediction of crop yields under various environmental change scenarios and the selection of better crop species or cultivar. Crop models could be used as tools for supporting reasonable nutrient management approaches for agricultural land. This paper outlines the simplified structure of main crop models (crop growth model, crop-soil model, and crop-soil-environment model) frequently used in agricultural systems and shows diverse application of their simulated results. Crop growth models such as LINTUL, SUCROS, could provide simulated data for daily growth, potential production, and photosynthesis assimilate partitioning to various organs with different physiological stages, and for evaluating crop nutrient demand. Crop-Soil models (DSSAT, APSIM, WOFOST, QUEFTS) simulate growth, development, and yields of crops; soil processes describing nutrient uptake from root zone; and soil nutrient supply capability, e.g., mineralization/decomposition of soil organic matter. The crop model built for the DSSAT family software has limitations in spatial variability due to its simulation mechanism based on a single homogeneous field unit. To introduce well-performing crop models, the potential applications for crop-soil-environment models such as DSSAT, APSIM, or even a newly designed model, should first be compared. The parameterization of various crops under different cultivation conditions like those of intensive farming systems common in Korea, shortened crop growth period, should be considered as well as various resource inputs.

Nowadays, it is required for naval ships to estimate 3D underwater radiated noise pattern in all direction at peak frequencies of hull vibration for the reduction of being detected and doing the effective operation. For this purpose, the numerical method has to be developed to calculate 3D underwater radiated noise pattern with experimental data. It is very difficult to obtain the experimental data for the real ship. Alternative to get the experimental results is to use NAH(near-field acoustic holography) in acoustic tank with experimental model. Application of NAH in acoustic tank for the experimental model needs some investigation of reflection wave from the wall of the acoustic tank and unmeasured zone of the experimental model due to the supporting structure for it. In this study, the effect of reflection wave in the acoustic tank and unmeasured area of the experimental model when using the NAH was investigated with experiment and numerical model. From these, it is known for the error due to reflection wave can be reduced when the distance between the measurement plane and source is being shorten. Also, unmeasured area of the experimental model gives rise to some error in the estimation of the far-field acoustic pressure.
This paper has presented an effective and accurate meso-scale finite element model for simulating the fracture process of concrete under compression-shear loading. In the proposed model, concrete is parted into four important phases: aggregates, cement matrix, interfacial transition zone (ITZ), and the initial defects. Aggregate particles were modelled as randomly distributed polygons with a varying size according to the sieve curve developed by Fuller and Thompson. With regard to initial defects, only voids are considered. Cohesive elements with zero thickness are inserted into the initial mesh of cement matrix and along the interface between aggregate and cement matrix to simulate the cracking process of concrete. The constitutive model provided by ABAQUS is modified based on Wang's experiment and used to describe the failure behaviour of cohesive elements. User defined programs for aggregate delivery, cohesive element insertion and modified facture constitutive model are developed based on Python language, and embedded into the commercial FEM package ABAQUS. The effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed model are firstly identified by comparing the numerical results with the experimental ones, and then it is used to investigate the effect of meso-structure on the macro behavior of concrete. The shear strength of concrete under different pressures is also involved in this study, which could provide a reference for the macroscopic simulation of concrete component under shear force.

Recently, securing a vast land in the land region becomes more difficult and efforts to seek its alternation in the sea area have been increased. As a consequence, the coastal region has been faced to extensive beach erosion problems. In planning offshore structures such as artificial islands, it is necessary to forecast the influence of the structure construction exerting on the beach erosion of the adjacent coast. In the present study, the sediment movement pattern behind offshore structure was examined through a series of three dimensional movable bed experiments, so as to develop the numerical model which forecasts morphological change including beach erosions. The experimental results reveal that the sediment movement patterns of the beach line side and the depth region are separated at a certain boundary line. In details, at the beach side including swash zone the sediment movement becomes dominant, which is governed by a relation between depth contours and incident wave directions, while at the depth region the bed load and suspended load due to the orbit motion of waves are carried by nearshore currents, and both movements are clearly separated at a specified boundary that is related to partial standing wave from the beach. It is expected that these results can be effectively used for verification of a numerical model on morphological change of the coast.

In this paper, a guideline for designing breakwater in wave loads and in seismic loads is proposed. A simple model structure in breaking wave zone is examined using Morison equation in consideration with the effect of an impact load, for evaluation of the wave loads. As the impact load effect is not significant, pressure distributions according to Goda are applied for evaluation of wave loads on breakwater. Structural behavior of breakwater in wave loads can be obtained using the Goda method, as well. For seismic analysis, Ofunato and Hachinohe models, as well as an artificial seismic acceleration loads model, are adopted. Soil-structure interaction analysis is carried out to find the seismic load effect. It is found that, in certain cases, structural deformation in wave loads is in the same level as deformation that in seismic loads. Thus, it is our recommendation that these two loads are considered at the same level in breakwater design.

Flow structures around a rectangular prism have been investigated by using a PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) technique. A thick turbulent boundary layer was generated by using spires arid roughness elements. The boundary layer thickness, displacement thickness and momentum thickness were 650mm, 117.4mm and 78mm, respectively. The ratio between the model height(40mm) and the boundary layer thickness H/$\delta$, was 0.06. The Reynolds number based on the free stream velocity and the height of the model was 7.9$\times$10$^3$. The PIV measurements were performed at three different wall normal planes. Three recirculation regions at forward facing step, top of the roof and backward facing step are clearly seen and show three dimensional features. Dramatic changes of flow patterns are observed in the wake regions in the different spanwise wall normal planes. Instead of reattachment and recirculation zone, rising streamlines are depicted at the normal planes near the side wall due to the interaction with a rising horse shoe vortex. The peak of turbulent kinetic energy occurs at the separation bubble on top of the roof and the magnitude is 2.5 times higher compared with that of the wake region.
Land fire receives additional extinguishing methods easily by professional extinguisher. But because of isolation and independence from land when sailing on the sea, ships are difficult to get special help from land. Generally, the death ratio by suffocation is higher than the death rate by flame and to reduce suffocation death ratio, fast evacuation is required. This paper aims to improve survival ratio at ship fires by soot density reduction. This study examines soot density and visibility using FDS. And also examines evacuation time by Pathfinder. The FDS(Fire Dynamic Simulator) is a 3 zone model(Field Model) analysis tool and the patherfinder is a useful analysis tool for evacuation. This research examined about evacuation time using the current regulations of the ship's corridor width and exit width first. And then studied evacuation time again when ship's structure was changed according to the method that is proposed in this paper. And finally compared the results each other.

The conventional performance-based design method for the solid-wall caisson breakwater has been extended and applied to the perforated-wall caisson. The mathematical model to calculate the sliding distance of a perforated-wall caisson is verified against hydraulic experimental data. The developed performance-based design method is then compared with the conventional deterministic method in different water depths. Both the expected sliding distance and the exceedance percentage of total sliding distance during the structure lifetime decrease with decreasing water depth outside the surf zone, but they increase with decreasing water depth inside the surf zone. The performance-based design method is either more economical or less economical than the deterministic method depending on which design criterion is used. If the criterion for the ultimate limit state is used, the former method is less economical than the latter outside the surf zone, whereas the two methods are equally economical inside the surf zone. However, if the breakwater is designed to satisfy the criterion for the repairable limit state, the former method is more economical than the latter in all water depths.

Recently, domain-specific demands with respect to practical applications and analysis scheme using spatial thematic information are increasing. Accordingly, in this study, GIS-based application program is implemented to perform spatial analysis in transportation geography with base road layer data. Using this program, quantitative estimation of circuity and accessibility, which can be extracted from nodes composed of the graph-typed network structure, in a arbitrary analysis zone or administrative boundary zone is possible. Circuity is a concept to represent the difference extent between actual nodes and fully connected nodes in the analysis zone. While, accessibility can be used to find out extent of accessibility or connectivity between all nodes contained in the analysis zone, judging from inter-connecting status of the whole nodes. In put data of this program, which was implemented in AVX executable extension using AvenueTM of ArcView, is not transportation database information based on transportation data model, but layer data, directly obtaining from digital map sets. It is thought that computation of circuity and accessibility can be used as kinds of spatial analysis functions for GIS applications in the transportation field.
