  • In this paper, the effect of stiffness on hydroelastic responses of plate-like floating structure under wave loads are studied. Direct method is used for the numerical analysis. In the numerical analysis, structural equation is formulated by finite element method(FEM) and higher order boundary element method(HOBEM) is employed for the analysis of fluid flow. A 1000m-long VLFS(Very Large Floating Structure) is considered in numerical analyses. By analyzing VLFS for various cases of stiffness, the characteristics of hydroelastic responses with the variation of stiffness are investigated.

  • Most structures are expected to deform beyond the limit of linearly elastic behavior when subjected to strong ground motion. Seismic evaluation of structure requires an estimation of the structural performance in terms of displacement demand imposed by earthquakes on the structure. Nonlinear response history analysis(NRHA) is the most rigorous procedure to compute seismic performance among various inelastic analysis methods. But nonlinear analysis procedures necessitate more practical and reliable tools for predicting seismic behavior of structures. This paper presents a nonlinear direct spectrum method(NDSM) to evaluate seismic performance of structures, without iterative computations, given by the structural initial elastic period and yield strength from the pushover analysis, especially for MDF(multi degree of freedom) system. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the accuracy and reliability of this method from a point of view of various earthquakes and structure parameters.

  • The dynamic behavior of the rectangular liquid storage structure is known to be greatly influenced by fluid-structure interaction. By mounting the liquid storage structure on the properly designed base isolators, dynamic response of the superstructure can be reduced. However, base isolators inevitably incur large displacement of the structure to the ground ·ind may give adverse effects on the sloshing height. This paper presents the analysis method for fluid-structure-isolator interaction in base-isolated rectangular liquid storage structures. In the method, the irrotational motion of invicid and incompressible ideal fluid is expressed by analytic solutions and the superstructure and isolators are properly modeled by finite element and bilinear model. Free surface sloshing motion, hydrodynamic pressure acting on the wall and structural response are obtained by the presented method.

  • This paper describes the general formulation for the in-plane longitudinal and flexural coupled free vibration analysis of a branched structure. The branched structure, which is mainly found in machine tools, pipeline systems and so on, has some crooked parts and subsystems. And it modeled as a distributed mass system. The superiority of the present method to the transfer matrix method in the computation accuracy and speed was confirmed by the numerical computation results. Moreover, we comfirmed that boundary and intermediate conditions have been controlled by the spring constants.

  • The independent component analysis (ICA) technique is a source identification method that uses statistical independence to separate source signals from measured signals. It has been successfully applied to various fields such as medical care and communication. In this study, the ICA technique was adopted to analyze the vibration source contribution of plate structures. The theory of the ICA technique is introduced and the procedure of the vibration source contribution analysis based on the ICA technique is proposed. To investigate the applicability of the proposed method to plate structures, numerical examples are presented for a rectangular plate under harmonic force excitations. The results show that the proposed method could become an effective tool for the vibration source contribution analysis of a plate structure.

  • HRSG(Heat Recovery Steam Generator) building is large enclosed structure included various heat sources. This building needs to appropriately keep internal air temperature for worker's safety and operability of control devices. In this study, ventilation analysis is performed to find proper ventilation method for temperature control. Ventilation analysis is applied to entire internal space of the building with standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model and enhanced wall treatment because of large size of the structure. And the ventilation method is considered natural and forced convection with two louver structures which has damper or not. Louver structure affect directly air circulation in near HRSG and lower region of the building. Forced ventilation provides strong inertial force which cause upward airflow. From the analysis, it is found that design requirement for internal air temperature can be satisfied by forced ventilation method with louver structure without damper.

  • This study develops 2-D analysis method of a base-isolated pool structure, and verifies the method through shaking table test using a scaled model. A wall of the pool structure is modeled as lumped mass, and added mass of the fluid is imposed on the nodes of the structure to consider the hydrodynamic effect of contained fluid. The equation of motion of base-isolated pool structure is obtained by coupling of two equations for superstructure composed of wall and fluid, and for bottom slab and isolator. The scaled model for shaking table test is made with transparent acryle, and 4-high damping laminated rubber bearings are used. The responses of the scaled model by the test are generally good agreement with those by the analysis. It is shown that 2-D analysis method gives somewhat conservative results.

  • A new non-destructive evaluation method using tapping sound is proposed. This method, named Tapping Sound Analysis, is using the difference between tapping sound data of healthy structure and defective structure as the criteria of determination of internal defect of composite structure. For the characterization of tapping sound, a feature extraction method based on wavelet packet transform is proposed. And a feature index is defined for the decision of existence of internal defects. To prove the possibility of proposed method as a non-destructive evaluation method, experimental study is performed. The tapping sound data of healthy structure and defective structure are measured and compared based on the proposed decision method. The experimental results showed that the feature index is a good indicator for the determination of internal defects.
