The structural, electrical, and optical properties of layer-by-layer ZnO nanoparticles deposited using sol-gel spin coating technique were studied and now presented. Thicknesses of the thin films were varied by increasing the number of deposited layers. As part of our characterization process, XRD and FE-SEM were used to characterize the structural properties, current-voltage measurements for the electrical properties, and UV-Vis spectra and photoluminescence spectra for the optical properties of the ZnO thin films. ZnO thin films with thicknesses ranging from 14.2 nm to 62.7 nm were used in this work. Film with thickness of 42.7 nm gave the lowest resistivity among all, $1.39{\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. Photoluminescence spectra showed two peaks which were in the UV emission centered at 380 nm, and visible emission centered at 590 nm. Optical transmittance spectra of the samples indicated that all films were transparent (>88%) in the visible-NIR range. The optical band gap energy was estimated to be 3.21~3.26 eV, with band gap increased with the thin film thickness.
For a fixed jacket type offshore structure directly supported by the seabed, the structural behavior of offshore structure depends on the soil properties. Soil properties affect on the stiffness of the piles and the boundary condition in the structural analysis. The structural analysis is performed using PSI (Pile-Soil Interaction) suggested in the code and design rule. PSI analysis of the jacket structure is carried out after various soil types are selected according to the soil properties like internal friction angle, undrained shear strength, unit weight and so on. Three types of soil are selected by varying strength for a clay and sand, respectively. The structural analysis of the jacket structure is performed using these soils. The results about axial and lateral reaction force and the stress and displacement on the structure are compared. As a results, the structural response is smaller as the soil becomes more stiff. In conclusion, it is confirmed that the structural response of fixed jacket type offshore platform supported by seabed is sensitive to the change of soil properties.

This study investigated the effect of horizontal casting joints on the mechanical properties and structural behavior of sustainable self-compacting reinforced concrete beams (SCRCB). The experimental research consisted of two stages. The first stage used four types of concrete mixtures which were produced to indicate the effects of cement replaced with cement waste at 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% by weight of cement content on fresh concrete properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC) such as, passing ability, filling ability, and segregation resistance. In addition, mechanical properties such as compressive, tensile, and flexural strength were also studied. The second stage selected the best mixture from the first stage and studied the effect of horizontal casting joints on the structural behavior of sustainable SCRCBs. The effect of horizontal casting joints on the mechanical properties and structural behavior were at the 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of sample height. Load deflection, failure mode, and theoretical analysis were studied. Results indicated that the incorporation of replacement with cement waste by 5% to 10% led to economic and environmental advantages, and the results were acceptable for fresh and mechanical properties. The results indicated that delaying the time for casting the second layer and increasing the cement waste in concrete mixtures had a great effect on the mechanical properties of SCC. The ultimate load capacity of horizontal casting joints reinforced concrete beams slightly decreased compared with the control beam. The maximum deflection of casting joint beams with 75% of samples height is similar with the control beam. The experimental results of reinforced concrete beams were substantially acceptable with the theoretical results. The failure modes obtained the best forced casting joint on the structural behavior at 50% height of casting in the beam.
The risk of bearing failure is evaluated through the seismic response analysis of a bridge considering the probabilistic characteristics of structural properties such as the mass of superstructure, the stiffness of pier, and the translational and rotational stiffness of the foundation as well as seismic loadings during the bridge service lift. The effect of pounding between adjacent vibration units on the risk of bearing failure is also investigated. The probabilistic characteristics of structural properties are obtained by the Monte Carlo simulations based on the probabilistic characteristics of basic random variables included in the structural properties. From the simulation results, the failure probability of fixed bearings attached on the abutment is found to be much higher than those placed on the piers. It is also found that the pounding effect significantly increases the failure probability of bearings. In the simply supported bridges, the risk of bearing failure increases as the number of bridge spans increase. Therefore, the failure probability of fixed bearing due to the effects of pounding phenomena and the number of bridge spans should be considered in the seismic desist of bearings.
High energy neutron irradiations impact on structural and electrical properties of alumina are studied with particular emphasis on real time in-situ radiation induced conductivity measurement in low flux region. Polycrystalline Al2O3 samples are subjected to high energy neutrons produced from D-T neutron generator and Am-Be neutron source. 14 MeV neutrons from D-T generator are chosen to study the role of fast neutron irradiation in the structural modification of samples. Real time in-situ electrical measurement is performed to investigate the change in insulation resistance of Al2O3 due to radiation induced conductivity at low flux regime. During neutron irradiation, a significant transient decrease in insulation resistance is observed which recovers relative higher value just after neutron exposure is switched off. XRD results of 14 MeV neutron irradiated samples suggest annealing effect. Impact of relatively low energy neutrons on the structural properties is also studied using Am-Be neutrons. In this case, clustering is observed on the sample surface after prolonged neutron exposure. The structural characterizations of pristine and irradiated Al2O3 samples are performed using XRD, SEM, and EDX. The results from these characterizations are analysed and interpreted in the manuscript.
In this paper, the elastic epoxy added elastomer having viscoelasticity to existing epoxy was measured thermal, structural properties by DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) and FESEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope). Specimens were made of dumbbell forms by the ratio of 5, 10, 15, and 20[phr] by regulation with elastomer contents. The measurement temperature dimensions of DSC were -20[$^{\circ}C$] to 150[$^{\circ}C$] and rising temperature was 4[$^{\circ}C$/min]. Also we observed structure through FESEM at the magnification of 1000 times with the voltage of 15[kV] after breaking by quenching specimens. As experimental results, we could know that thermal and structural properties were improved quantity according to decrease of elastomer contents. Namely, it increased glass transition temperature, high temperature, and matrix structure. In general, thermal, structural properties of 15[phr] was excellent among the specimens.
A PHE (Process Heat Exchanger) in a nuclear hydrogen system is a key component required to transfer heat energy of $950^{\circ}C$ generated in a VHTR (Very High Temperature gas cooled Reactor) to the chemical reaction that yields a large quantity of hydrogen. A small-scale PHE prototype made of Hastelloy-X is being tested in a small-scale gas loop at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. Previous research on the high-temperature structural analysis of the small-scale PHE prototype had been performed only using parent material properties. In this study, high-temperature structural analysis using weld properties in weld zone was performed and the analysis results compared with the previous research.
PLZT ceramics having two nominal compositions, $Pb_{1-3x/2}La_xV_{x/2}(Zr_{03}Ti_{03})O_3$ and $Pb_{1-x}La_x(Zr_{0.2}Ti_{0.5})_{1-x/4}V_{x/4}O_3$ (V: vacancy) with x=0.00~0.30, were prepared. The physical, structural, and dielectric properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and measurements of bulk density and dielectric constant. The two series with A-stie and B-site vacancies showed different physical, structural, dielectric properties, and, specially, Curie temperature. In comparison to PLZT with B-site vacancies, PLZT with A-site vacancies showed high Curie temperatures and low maxima of dielectric constant. Consequently, it is evident that the properties of PLZT ceramics depend on the vacancy formula adopted as a batch composition in preparation.
We report the structural ,optical and electrical properties of ZnO thin films depending on the variation of the film thickness. The properties of the films deposited on sapphire (001) substrates using a pulsed laser deposition technique (PLD) were characterized with XRD, hall measurement and photoluminescence (PL). In our study, the increase of the thickness of ZnO thin films shows the improvement of the structural and optical properties. The electric properties of the films were also well matched with the structural and optical properties

One of the main concerns in the structural integrity of offshore pipelines is mechanical damage from external loads. Pipelines are exposed to fatigue failure in welded joints due to geometric discontinuity. In addition, fatigue loads such as currents, waves, and platform motions may cause significant plastic deformation and fracture or leakage within a relatively low-cycle regime. The 2007 ASME Div. 2 Code adopts the master S―N curve for the fatigue evaluation of welded joints based on the mesh-insensitive structural stress. An extension to the master S―N curve was introduced to evaluate the low-cycle fatigue strength. This structural strain method uses the tensile properties of the material. However, the monotonic tensile properties have limitations in describing the material behavior above the elastic range because most engineering materials exhibit hardening or softening behavior under cyclic loads. The goal of this study is to extend the cyclic stress-strain behavior to the structural strain method. To this end, structural strain-based procedure was established while considering the cyclic stress-strain behavior and compared to the structural strain method with monotonic tensile properties. Finally, the improved prediction method was validated using fatigue test data from full-scale girth-welded pipes.
