The main purpose of this study is reducing the cost and effort for characterization of tensile strength of fiber reinforced concrete, in order to use in structural design. For this purpose, in this study, test for fiber reinforced concrete was carried out. Because fiber reinforced concrete is consisted of diverse material, it is hard to define the correlation between mix proportions and strength. Therefore, compressive strength test and tensile strength test were carried out for the range of smaller than 100 MPa of compressive strength and 0.25~1% of steel fiber volume fraction. as a results of test, two types of tensile strength were highly affected by compressive strength of concrete. However, increase rate of tensile strength was decreased with increase of compressive strength. Increase rate of tensile strength was decreased with increase of fiber volume fraction. Database was constructed using previous research data. Because estimation equations for tensile strength of fiber reinforced concrete should be multiple variable function, linear regression is hard to apply. Therefore, in this study, we decided to use the ANN(Artificial Neural Network). ANN was constructed using multiple layer perceptron architecture. Sigmoid function was used as transfer function and back propagation training method was used. As a results of prediction using artificial neural network, predicted values of test data and previous research which was randomly selected were well agreed with each other. And the main effective parameters are water-cement ratio and fiber volume fraction.

By implementing an analysis on the liquid flame proof agent infiltration of microwave-heated wood under soaking conditions (room temperature soaking, heat soaking), its correlation with wood temperature, and the structure of wood and permeating components after soaking in flame proof agent, which was carried out as basic research in order to improve the fire resistance performance of the wood itself, it is found that the infiltration increases as the microwave heating time increases, while for heat soaking, it is found that high infiltration as well as the stable permeability of flame proof agent is achievable. Also, when the wood temperature is more than $80^{\circ}C$, the infiltration by the flame proof agent increased, and a very even infiltration of flame proof agent was observed, which implies that the liquid flame proof agent has a dependency on temperature change of the wood as a condition to penetrate into the wood. As a result of fine structure analysis, the flame proof agent transfer between cells through pits was considered as a cause to increase the infiltration of flame proof agent, and it is also shown that for heat soaking among the permeating component analysis, as the crystallized flame proof agent around the heartwood and sapwood inner pits increases, the flame proof agent can penetrate into the the heartwood part.
Background: Most of the Pinus densiflora forests, occupying the largest area, have been restored in South Korea since the 1970s. As young pioneer forests, the succession process is under way. Since the forests are distributed nationwide and are vulnerable to disturbances, the process may differ depending on the geography and/or site conditions. Therefore, we reviewed the direction, the seral communities, and the late-successional species of progressive and disturbance-driven succession nationwide in the cool-temperate zone through meta-analysis and empirical observations. Main text: As a result of a meta-analysis of the direct succession and vertical structure, we found that the P. densiflora forest is in a directionally progressive succession, changing to the broadleaved forest after forming a mixed forest with its overwhelming successor, Quercus species (particularly Q. mongolica and Q. serrata). In dry stands in a relative sense, the Quercus species was favored occupying over 80% of the abundance of the succeeding species. Therefore, in dry stands, it is presumed that Quercus-dominated stage would last for a long time due to the current dominance and long life span, and eventually, it settles as Quercus-broadleaved forest with a site change. Contrary to this, it is presumed that in mesic stands where Quercus species do not occur or have low abundance, the late-successional broadleaved species settle early to form a co-dominant forest with multiple species. Due to geographical limits, the species composition of the two late-successional forests is different. Disturbances such as insect pests and fire retrogressed vulnerable P. densiflora forest for a while. However, it was mostly restored to the Quercus forest and is expected to be incorporated in the pathway of the dry stand. Conclusions: We revealed the succession process of P. densiflora forests according to geography and moisture and found that stand moisture had a decisive effect on the species and abundance of the successor. Although the P. densiflora forest is undergoing structural changes, the forest is still young; so within a few decades, physiognomy is not likely to change. Therefore, the decrease in the forest area may be due to other causes such as disturbances and forest conversion rather than due to succession.

This study examined the job satisfaction and its association with violence experience, job stress, and burn-out. A total of 1,240 119 rescue workers who worked in 14 fire stations across the country were surveyed. The survey was conducted by self-administered questionnaires from 1 March, to 30 April, 2016. As a result, the score of job satisfaction according to violence experience, job stress, and burn-out were significantly lower in the group with higher scores of violence experience, job stress, and burn-out. Regarding the correlation of job satisfaction with violence experience, job stress, and burn-out, the score of job satisfaction was negatively correlated with the violence experience, job stress, and burn-out. With an analysis of the covariance structure, the job stress was more influential on the job satisfaction than violence experience and burn-out. In addition, a higher violence experience, job stress, and burn-out were found to decrease job satisfaction. On the other hand, a higher the job stress and violence experience resulted in higher burn-out rates. The results suggested that the job satisfaction is influenced more by job stress than by violence experience and burn-out. Therefore, concrete measures will be needed to reduce job stress and promote the job satisfaction of 119 rescue workers.

In the present study, we aimed to obtain design data that can be used for the side members of lightweight cars by experimentally examining the types of effects that the changes in the section shape and outermost layer of an aluminum (Al)/carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) composite structural member have on its collapse characteristics. We have drawn the following conclusions based on the test results: The circular Al/CFRP composite impact-absorbing member in which the outermost layer angle was laminated at $0^{\circ}$ was observed to be 52.9 and 49.93 higher than that of the square and hat-shaped members, respectively. In addition, the energy absorption characteristic of the circular Al/CFRP composite impact-absorbing member in which the outermost layer angle was laminated at $90^{\circ}$ was observed to be 50.49 and 49.2 higher than that of the square and hat-shaped members, respectively.
We attempted an experimental study of lost-wax casting to reconstruct the Gilt-bronze pensive Bodhisattva; The main object we aimed to reconstruct was the Korean national treasure No.83, Gilt-bronze pensive Bodhisattva(Maitreya); thus, we scientifically analyzed and measured the alloy ratio and casting method. Initially, the alloy ratio we used during the preliminary experiment was Cu:Sn:Pb = 95.5:4.0:0.5; we then increased tin and lead by 2.5% to consider vaporization during the main experiment. After applying lost-wax casting, we realized that 30% rosin contributed to proper hardness after the wax hardness experiment. The microstructure revealed normal casting character(α-Cu, δ), and the results of the chemical analysis are identical to those of previous studies. The analysis of the mold suggests the presence of quartz powder for structural stability and fire-resistance along with other organic materials whose contribution is still unknown. We expect that our research will serve to provide basic data for advanced studies in the future.

This study examined the safety of a cable stayed bridge caused by damage to the cable system. Many cable-supported bridges, including cable-stayed bridges and suspension bridges, have been constructed on the Korean peninsula. This requires efficient maintenance and management because this structure has complex structural components and systems. This large structure also often faces risks either from manmade causes or natural phenomena. In 2015, the cables on one cable-stayed bridge in South Korea was struck by lightning, which led to a fire on the cables. These cables were damaged, which put the bridge at risk. This bridge was back in use after a few weeks of investigations and replacements of the cables but this was done at enormous social and economic expense. After this event, risk-based management for infrastructure is required by public demand. Therefore, this study examined the risks on the cable system due to potential damage. In this paper, a one cable-stayed bridge in South Korea was selected and its safety was investigated based on the damage scenarios of cable system for efficient and prompt management, and to support decision making. FEM analysis was conducted to evaluate the safety of the bridges after damage to the cable system.
With deterioration of the nation's infrastructure comes the growing, need for effective means of rehabilitating structures. Possibly one for the most challenging tasks is to upgrade the overall capacity of concrete structure. Therefore, considerable efforts are still being made to develop new construction materials. Rehabilitation of damaged RC structures occasionally requires the removal and replacement of concrete in the tension zone of the structural members. Typical situation where the tension zone repair is necessary is when the concrete in the tension zone in beams or slabs has spalled off as a result of corrosion in the bottom reinforcing bars or due to extensive fire. The rehabilitation of such conditions normally involves the removal of the concrete beyond the reinforcement bars, cleaning or replacing the tensile bars and reinstatement of concrete to cover the steel bars the original shape and size. This study focused on the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete beams strengthened by steel strand and carbon fiber sheet in the tension zone. The properties of beams are 15$\times$25 cm rectangular and over a 200cm span. Test parameters in this experimental study were strengthening methods, jacking volume, the number of sheet. We investigated the flexural behavior of simply supported RC beams which are strengthened with the carbon fiber sheet, monotonic loads. Attention is concentrated upon overall bending capacity, deflection, ductility index, failure mode and crack development of repaired and rehabilitated beams.

Piezoelectric transformers(PT) are expected to be small, thin and highly efficient, and which are attractive as a transformer with high power density for step down voltage. For these reasons, we have attempted to develop a step-down PT for the miniaturized adaptor. We propose a PT, operating in thickness extensional vibration mode for step-down voltage. This PT consists of a multi-layered construction in the thickness direction. In order to develop the step-down PT of 10 W class and turn ratio of 0.1 with high efficiency and miniaturization, the piezoelectric ceramics and PT designs are estimated with a variety of characteristics. The basic composition of piezoelectric ceramics consists of ternary yPb(Zr$_{x}$Ti$_{1-x}$)O$_{3}$-(1-y)Pb(Mn$_{1/3}$Nb1$_{1/3}$Sb$_{1/3}$)O$_{3}$. In the piezoelectric characteristics evaluations, at y=0.95 and x=0.505, the electromechanical coupling factor(K$_{p}$) is 58$\%$, piezoelectric strain constant(d$_{33}$) is 270 pC/N, mechanical quality factor(Qr$_{m}$) is 1520, permittivity($\varepsilon$/ 0) is 1500, and Curie temperature is 350 $^{\circ}C$. At y = 0.90 and x = 0.500, kp is 56$\%$, d33 is 250 pC/N, Q$_{m}$ is 1820, $\varepsilon$$_{33}$$^{T}$/$\varepsilon$$_{0}$ is 1120, and Curie temperature is 290 $^{\circ}C$. It shows the excellent properties at morphotropic phase boundary regions. PZT-PMNS ceramic may be available for high power piezoelectric devices such as PTs. The design of step-down PTs for adaptor proposes a multi-layer structure to overcome some structural defects of conventional PTs. In order to design PTs and analyze their performances, the finite element analysis and equivalent circuit analysis method are applied. The maximum peak of gain G as a first mode for thickness extensional vibration occurs near 0.85 MHz at load resistance of 10 .The peak of second mode at 1.7 MHz is 0.12 and the efficiency is 92$\%$.
In structural engineering practice, understanding the performance of composite columns under extreme loading conditions such as high-rise bulding, long span and heavy loads is essential to accuratly predicting of material responses under severe loads such as fires or earthquakes. Hitherto, the combined effect of partial axial loads and subsequent elevated temperatures on the performance of hollow steel column filled fly ash concrete have not been widely investigated. Comprehensive test was carried out to investigate the effect of elevated temperatures on partial axially loaded square hollow steel column filled fly ash concrete as reported in this paper. Four batches of hollow steel column filled fly ash concrete ( 30 percent replacement of fly ash), (HySC) and normal concrete (CFHS) were subjected to four different load levels, nf of 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% based on ultimate column strength. Subsequently, all batches of the partially damage composite columns were exposed to transient elevated temperature up to 250℃, 450℃ and 650℃ for one hour. The overall stress - strain relationship for both types of composited columns with different concrete fillers were presented for each different partial load levels and elevated temperature exposure. Results show that CFHS column has better performance than HySC at ambient temperature with 1.03 relative difference. However, the residual ultimate compressive strength of HySC subjected to partial axial load and elevated temperature exposure present an improvement compared to CFHS column with percentage difference in range 1.9% to 18.3%. Most of HySC and CFHS column specimens failed due to local buckling at the top and middle section of the column caused by concrete crushing. The columns failed due to global buckling after prolong compression load. After the compression load was lengthened, the columns were found to fail due to global buckling except for HySC02.
