The completion of the Bakun Diversion Tunnel is subsequently to the Main Dam construction. Therefore, the completion date is very important for the Bakun Hydroelectric Project. Generally, the tunnel lining work as a finishing phase of the tunnelling project occupies a important portion as well as an excavation and a support work of the tunnels in respect to the construction cost and period. Internal section of Bakun Diversion Tunnel is designed circular shape to reduce the roughness of the water flow with 12 meters in diameter of total length 4314.6 meters of 3 tunnels. The lining thickness is varied between 500 mm and 700 mm depending on the structural condition. From the original Tender design of the Bakun tunnels, the required quantity of steel bars was 5,985 ton designed by Reinforced Concrete (RC) through the entire tunnel linings. During the detail design stage by the consideration of the rock conditions and various load conditions, we could suggest five kinds of RC lining type including plain concrete lining type. Through the detail design modification, we could reduce the required amount of steel bars to 2,178 ton, as a half of original Bill of Quantity. Finally, this design modification give us the time and cost saving effect to catch up the construction progress in time.
This paper focuses on geometrically non-linear static analysis of a simply supported beam made of hyperelastic material subjected to a non-follower transversal uniformly distributed load. As it is known, the line of action of follower forces is affected by the deformation of the elastic system on which they act and therefore such forces are non-conservative. The material of the beam is assumed as isotropic and hyperelastic. Two types of simply supported beams are considered which have the following boundary conditions: 1) There is a pin at left end and a roller at right end of the beam (pinned-rolled beam). 2) Both ends of the beam are supported by pins (pinned-pinned beam). In this study, finite element model of the beam is constructed by using total Lagrangian finite element model of two dimensional continuum for a twelve-node quadratic element. The considered highly non-linear problem is solved by using incremental displacement-based finite element method in conjunction with Newton-Raphson iteration method. In order to use the solution procedures of Newton-Raphson type, there is need to linearized equilibrium equations, which can be achieved through the linearization of the principle of virtual work in its continuum form. In the study, the effect of the large deflections and rotations on the displacements and the normal stress and the shear stress distributions through the thickness of the beam is investigated in detail. It is known that in the failure analysis, the most important quantities are the principal normal stresses and the maximum shear stress. Therefore these stresses are investigated in detail. The convergence studies are performed for various numbers of finite elements. The effects of the geometric non-linearity and pinned-pinned and pinned-rolled support conditions on the displacements and on the stresses are investigated. By using a twelve-node quadratic element, the free boundary conditions are satisfied and very good stress diagrams are obtained. Also, some of the results of the total Lagrangian finite element model of two dimensional continuum for a twelve-node quadratic element are compared with the results of SAP2000 packet program. Numerical results show that geometrical nonlinearity plays very important role in the static responses of the beam.
In this paper, we report the empirical study results theorizing IPTV user's loyalty formation process. Considering the convergent characteristics ofinnovative media and telecommunication, we employed innovation adoption and diffusion as our theoretical framework for research model development. As the purpose of this research includes verification of detail attributes of IPTV service, we formulated structural model which treats relative advantage as the second order factor, of which incorporates the seven detail attributes as the first order factors. Then, using the data collected from 250 Korean IPTV subscribers, the model is validated and relevant attributes are identified through PLS analysis. The results provide insights for future research on the adoption and diffusion of new digital convergent high-tech services.

The rebar detailing is an important work influencing the final performance and quality of RC structures. But it is one of the most irrational and illogical activity in construction site. Many groups of workers, including main contractors, structural engineers, shop drawers, rebar fabricators, and etc., participate in this activity. A loosely-organized process for this activity is apt to produce a big amount of rebar loss or even degraded structures. A 3-dimensional rebar auto-placing system, called as Rebar Hub, has been designed and implemented in this research. Rebar Hub provides a totally integrated service from 3D structural modeling of buildings to rebar auto-placing considering anchorage, splice, and the length of ordered rebar. In addition, Rebar Hub can recognize the 2D drawing CAD files and then build 3D structural models which are used for the start point of 3D rebar auto-placing. After rebar auto-placing, each members of the 3D structural model have rebar information belonging to them. It means that the rebar information can be used for the afterward works such as quantity-survey, manufacturing and fabrication of rebars. Rebar Hub is showing outstanding performance while applying to practical projects. It has almost five times productivity and reduces the rebar loss up to 3~8% of the initially-surveyed amount of rebar.

In the fabrication process of inverted multi-tee (IMT) slabs, concrete has to be poured twice due to its shape, which is a huge disadvantage as a precast member. To overcome this, a new technique for manufacturing IMT slabs using a slipform method has been recently developed. In this study, flexural and shear tests were carried out to investigate the structural performances of inverted multi-tee (IMT) slabs manufactured using slipform method. To this end, one flexural specimen and two shear specimens with topping concrete were fabricated, and their failure modes and crack patterns, and the slips that occurred between the precast slab and topping concrete were measured and analyzed in detail. In addition, the flexural and shear strengths of the specimens were evaluated by utilizing the structural design code, and a shear strength estimation method, which is suitable for composite IMT slabs with different concrete properties, was proposed for practical design. The IMT slab satisfied the nominal flexural strength calculated by the current design code, and the proposed method provided a good estimation of the shear strength of the specimens.

Tower structures have been widely used in communication and transmission engineering. The failure of joints is the leading cause of structure failure, which make it play a crucial role in tower structure engineering. In this study, the aluminum alloy three tube tower structure is taken as the prototype, and the middle joint of the tower was selected as the research object. Three different stainless steel-aluminum alloy composite joints (SACJs), denoted by TA, TB and TC, were designed. Finite element (FE) modeling analysis was used to compare and determine the TC joint as the best solution. Detail requirements of fasteners in the TC stainless steel-aluminum alloy composite joint (TC-SACJ) were designed and verified. In order to systematically and comprehensively study the mechanical properties of TC-SACJ under multi-directional loading conditions, the full-scale experiments and FE simulation models were all performed for mechanical response analysis. The failure modes, load-carrying capacities, and axial load versus displacement/stain testing curves of all full-scale specimens under tension/compression loading conditions were obtained. The results show that the maximum vertical displacement of aluminum alloy tube is 26.9mm, and the maximum lateral displacement of TC-SACJs is 1.0 mm. In general, the TC-SACJs are in an elastic state under the design load, which meet the design requirements and has a good safety reserve. This work can provide references for the design and engineering application of aluminum alloy tower structures.

In this study, a double wall system is introduced, which was invented to simplify the complicated manufacturing process of the existing precast concrete (PC) double wall systems and to remove defects such as laitance that may occur during the production of concrete panels. An experimental study was conducted to investigate the tensile resisting capacity of the steel tube which is embedded in the precast concrete panel to keep the spacing between PC panels and to prevent damage of the PC panels during transportation and casting concrete onsite. The experiment was planned to determine the detail of effective steel tube connection considering the steel plate treatment method according to the formation of the opening, the presence of embedded concrete, and the reinforcement welding for additional dowel action as key variables. As a result, the ultimate tensile strength increased by 20-30% compared to the control specimen (ST) except for the steel tube specimen (ST_CP) which has steel plates bent inward at the end part of the steel tube. Since the specimen (ST_CON) filled with concrete inside the control specimen has no additional process and cost for the steel tube connections compared to the control specimen during the production of the developed double wall system, it is determined to be the appropriate detail of steel tube connection.
The present study deals with static and dynamic behaviors including forced vibrations of an elastic rectangular nano plate on the two-parameter foundation. Firstly, the rectangular plate is assumed to be subjected to uniformly distributed and eccentrically applied concentrated loads. The governing equations of the problem are derived by considering the dynamic response of the plate, employing a series of the Chebyshev polynomials for the displacement function and applying the Galerkin method. Then, effects of the non-essential boundary conditions of the plate, i.e., the boundary conditions related to the shearing forces, the bending moments and the corner forces, are included in the governing equation of motion to compensate for the non-satisfied boundary conditions and increase the accuracy of the Galerkin method. The approximate numerical solution is accomplished using an iterative process due to the non-linearity of the unilateral property of the two-parameter foundation. The plate under static concentrated load is investigated in detail numerically by considering a wide range of parameters of the plate and the foundation stiffnesses. Numerical treatment of the problem in the time domain is carried out by assuming a stepwise variation of the concentrated load and the linear acceleration procedure is employed in the solution of the system of governing differential equations derived from the equation of motion. Time variations of the contact region and those of the displacements of the plate are presented in the figures for various numbers of the two-parameter of the foundation, as well as the classical and nano parameters of the plate particularly focusing on the non-linearity of the problem due to the plate lift-off from the unilateral foundation. The effects of classical and nonlocal parameters and loading are investigated in detail. Definition of the separation between the plate and the two-parameter foundation is presented and applied to the given problem. The effect of the lift-off on the static and dynamic behavior of the rectangular plate is studied in detail by considering various loading conditions. The numerical study shows that the effect of nonlocal parameters on the behavior of the plate becomes significant, when nonlinearity becomes more profound, due to the lift-off of the plate. It is seen that the size effects are significant in static and dynamic analysis of nano-scaled rectangular plates and need to be included in the mechanical analyses. Furthermore, the corner displacement of the plate is affected more significantly from the lift-off, whereas it is less marked in the time variation of the middle displacement of the plate. Several numerical examples are presented to examine the sensibility of various parameters associated with nonlocal parameters of the plate and foundation. Both stiffening and softening nonlocal parameters behavior of the plate are identified in the numerical solutions which show that increasing the foundation stiffness decreases the extent of the contact region, whereas the stiffness of the shear layer increases the contact region and reduces the foundation settlement considerably.

The gas explosions in offshore installations are known to be very severe according to its geometry and environmental conditions such as leak locations and wind directions, and a dynamic response of structures due to blast loads depends on the load profile. Therefore, a parametric study has to be conducted to investigate the effects of the dynamic response of structural members subjected to various types of load shapes. To do so, a series of CFD analyses was performed using a full-scale FPSO topside model including detail parts of pipes and equipments, and the time history data of the blast loads at monitor points and panels were obtained by the analyses. In this paper, we focus on a structural dynamic response subjected to blast loads changing the magnitude of positive/negative phase pressure and time duration. From the results of linear/nonlinear transient analyses using single degree of freedom(SDOF) and multi-degree-of freedom(MDOF) systems, it was observed that dynamic responses of structures were significantly influenced by the magnitude of positive and negative phase pressures and negative time duration.

The deck of steel box girder bridges is composed of deck plate, longitudinal rib, and transverse ribs. The orthotropic steel decks have high possibility to fatigue damage due to numbers of welded connection part, the heavy contact loadings, and the increase of repeated loadings. Generally, the local stress by the repeated loadings of heavy vehicles causes the orthotropic steel deck bridge to fatigue cracks. The increase of traffic volume and heavy vehicle loadings are promoted the possibility of fatigue cracks. Thus, it is important to exactly evaluate the structural behavior of bridge considering the contact loading area of heavy vehicles and real load patterns of heavy trucks which have effects on the bridge. This study estimated the effect of contact area of design loads and real traffic vehicles through the finite element analysis considering the real loading conditions. The finite element analysis carried out 4 cases of loading patterns in the orthotropic steel deck bridge. Also, analysis estimated the influence of contact area of real truck loadings by the existence of diaphragm plate. The result of finite element analysis indicated that single tire loadings of real trucks occurred higher local stress than one of design loadings, and especially the deck plate got the most influence by the single tire loading. It was found that the diaphragm attachment at joint part of longitudinal ribs and transverse ribs had no effects on the improvement of structural performance against fatigue resistance in elastic analysis.
