Changes in Quality by Drying Methods, Different Storage Conditions and Package Mediums for Established GAP Guide Book in Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi (황금 GAP 지침 설정을 위한 건조방법, 저장조건 및 포장재료에 따른 품질변화)

  • Background: The purpose of improving the quality of oriental medicinal herbs is to contribute to the improvement of the income of farm. The present study investigated the effect of reasonable drying methods, different storage conditions and packageing materials on quality and stability of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi and for developing GAP (good agricultural practice) guide book. Methods and Results: Three methods of drying Scutellaria baicalensis roots produced over two years were used to estimate loss rate owing to drying, storage, and packaging. The methods of drying were categorized into natural drying (36 - 60 h by sunshine), drying with heat dryer (2 - 10 h), or drying with gas bulk dryer (2 - 10 h). After cleaning, and initial drying for a few days under controlled temperature conditions, the second phase of drying was carried out at 35, 45 and $55^{\circ}C$. Changes in hunter color values and quality under the two studied storage treatments (at $20^{\circ}C$ indoors and at $4^{\circ}C$ in a refigerator) were evaluated. Storage period for 60, 120, and 180 days in three packaging materials, PE (polyethylene package), PP (polypropylene gunnysack), and WP (watertight packing paper) were studied. Conclusions: Initial cleaning, reasonable gas drying and hot air drying, and drying in an oven at 35 and $45^{\circ}C$ after cutting the roots resulted in the lowest loss rates in S. Baicalensis root. Hunter color valuse indicated that stroage of dry roots at room temperature was better than PP packaging, and that cold stroage was better than PE packaging for long-term stability.

  • The changes of the qualities and the components of 5 different Takju (Korean wine) in various stroage temperatures were evaluated. Commercial Takju didn't change in acidity and alcoholic degree at $5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ for 36 hours. But at $30{\sim}35^{\circ}C$ the alcohollic degree has inversed to $5.0{\sim}7.0$. As time went by, pH nearly went down to pH 3.7 and went up back over 4.0. Amino acidity was risen continuously during the stroage terms and the change of reducing sugar was irregular. The number of vegetable cell of yeast in commercial Takju at $30{\sim}35^{\circ}C$ after 18 hours was $2.4{\times}10^8$, at $5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ after 36 hours $2.4{\times}10^8$, and each of them was reduced below $1{\times}10^8$ after exceeding the limit of shelf-life. Number of general bacteria was increased suddenly in a high temperature at the first and it was decreased afterwards, but the tendency of increase and decrease was slow in a low temperature. It was possible to keep the quality for 5 days at $5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ in case of commercial Takju and the shelf-life of pasteurized Takju was extended over 7 days.

Optimal Operation of Single Multi-Purpose Reservoir (단일다목적 저수지의 최적운영)

  • This study aims at the development of DP-Model for the establishment of monthly optimal operation policy of single multi-puppose reservoir by which the water demand of downstream can be satisfied under the various physical constraints. Series, A. B. C. of inflow are selected out of future monthly inflow data which are simulated form the past monthly average inflow of Andong dam site. the neight possible alternatives in each inflow series are established in order that Andong dam can supply the water demand of Nagdong main stream of 30% to 100%. Nextly, the reservoir rule curves is derived for each alternative by the detailed seguential analysis of stroage, future inflow and water demand based on the reservoir continuite equation. Then, and alternative which can satisfy the objective function of system based on the rule curves in the exteream is determined as an optimal operation policy from the application of developed DP=Model.

  • 1) It was found that melons stored at $20^{\circ}C$ were deteriorated mainly by phytophthora spot and the limits for commercial purpose were 6 days for the control and 4 days for the film packed sample. First of all, alternaria rot was produced after 8 days in control group and each group had cold-stroage hindrance after 20 days. The limits for commercial purpose determined by general appearance were 14 days for the control, 18 days for the 0.02mm and 16 days for the 0.04 mm group. 2) Seven to 8% of weight decrease was the limit of commercial purpose by general appearance. The amount of $CO_2$ excretion was decreased in $20^{\circ}C$ group and increased drastically with deterioration. The amount of $CO_2$, excretion during storage at $2^{\circ}C$ was about $\frac{1}{5}\;to\;\frac{1}{6}\;of\;20^{\circ}C$ 3) The usage of sugar for the substrate of respiration during storage was small and large amount of acids was used for this purpose. The sugar content was decreased with deterioration but acids were increased. The reducing sugar content was decreased and non-reducing sugar content was increased during storage.

  • In this paper, we present a new checkpointing algorithm to preserve the consistency of resources in distributed transaction processing systems, and the error recovery algorithms to recover form the failure. In comparison with the existed algorithms, the checkpointing algorithm proposed in this paper can minimize the interference of the distributed transaction and the stroage cost during checkpointing, and does not need the extra message to make th checkpoint. Also we show that the error recovery algorithms prevent the distributed transaction with a partial fault from spreading the fault, which calls domnio-effect and prevent them from restarting cyclically. And we describe the correctness and the performane of the proposed algorithms.

  • SBR, polyurethane and epoxy latex were separately blended with ethylene-vinyl acetate(EVA) emulsion In $0{\sim}50%$. EVA emulsion was not reacted with latexes in liquid phase and mixtures had good stroage stability. The viscosity of cement mixtures was elevated to 20,000cps in $0.5{\sim}2.0$ hours by mixing. The mixtures mixed with pigment represented high viscosity and showed higher viscosity as time goes by. Mixtures had higher hardness with mixing SBR than mixing epoxy or urethane. The hardness was suddenly increased over cement content 30%. showed pencil hardness $H{\sim}2H$ in $50{\sim}60%$. The increase of hardness in high solids was depended upon not only the condensation of latexs but also the coagulation and adhesion of cement particle.

  • The seasonal pattern of pool size and withdrawal from senescing or stroage organ, and the annual magintude of internal-and plant-soil cycles for nitrogen and phosphorus in a Glyceria leptolepis Ohwi population in a marsh of the Mt. Geumoh were investigared. The population pool changed from initial size of 6.8 to the maximum of 16.1gN$m^{-2}$ for N and from 1.7 to 3.9g Pm$m^{-2}$ for P, maintaining far higher relative pool size during the first half of the growth period as compared with that for biomass. A sharp increase in N and P pool was noticed in early spring before the biomass growth was recognized, The major process supplying the demand for N and P changed as the growth progressed showing the order; absorption-withdrwal-absorption-with-drawal. The annual magnitude of plant-soil cycle for N and P was 18.0-19.1 and 2.9-3.3gm$m^{-2}$, accounting for 3 and 5% of each nutrient pool in 0-20 cm humus layer, respectively. The higher exent of internal cycle and the lower rate of annual turnover for P(1.08) as compared with those for N may suggest that this population conserves and reuses P more efficiently than N.

  • This paper proposes an imprecise compuitation model for DCT considering QOS of images and a two dimensional DCT architecture for imprecise computations. In case that many processes are scheduling in a hard real time system, the system resources are shared among them. Thus all processes can not be allocated enough system resources (such as processing power and communication bandwidth). The imprecise computtion model can be used to provide scheduling flexibility and various QOS(quality of service)levels, to enhance fault tolerance, and to ensure service continuity in rela time systems. The DCT(discrete cosine transform) is known as one of popular image data compression techniques and adopted in JPEG and MPEG algorithms since the DCT can remove the spatial redundancy of 2-D image data efficiently. Even though many commercial data compression VLSI chips include the DCST hardware, the DCT computation is still a very time-consuming process and a lot of hardware resources are required for the DCT implementation. In this paper the DCT procedure is re-analyzed to fit to imprecise computation model. The test image is simulated on teh base of this model, and the computation time and the quality of restored image are studied. The row-column algorithm is used ot fit the proposed imprecise computation DCT which supports pipeline operatiions by pixel unit, various QOS levels and low speed stroage devices. The architecture has reduced I/O bandwidth which could make its implementation feasible in VLSI. The architecture is proved using a VHDL simulator in architecture level.

Modeling Dynamics of Nonconservative Pollutants in Streams with Pools and Riffles

  • The complex nature of low flow transport and tranformation of nonconservative pollutants in natural streams with pools and riffles has been investigated using a numerical solution of a proposed mathematical model that is based on a set of mass balance equations describing hydrodynamic processes (advection, dispersion, and mass exchange mechanicms in streams and in storage zones) and chemical processes (reaction or decay). In this study, a mathematical model (named "Storage-Transformation Model") has been developed to predict adequately the non-Fickian nature of mixing and transformation mechanisms for decaying substances in natural streams under low flow conditions. Comparisons between the concentration-time curves predicted usingthe proposed model and the measured stream data shows that the Storage-Transformation Model yields better agreements in the goneral shape, peak concentration and time to peak than the 1-D dispersion model. The result of this study also demonstrates the differences between transport in pool-and-riffle streams versus transport in more uniform channels. The proposed model shows significant improvement over the conventional 1-D disperision model in predicting natural mixing and stroage processes in streams through pools and riffles.

A Study on Stroage of Chicken Eggs from Poultry Farms (식란의 보전성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to investigate the Storage time of chicken eggs, several physico-chemical tests from chicken eggs store at 5, 13 and 27$^{\circ}C$ were examined. Egg samples were collected from six poultry farms. Egg stored at 5$^{\circ}C$ based on the depth of air cell and specific gravity, were all acceptable until 17 days ; on the egg yolk coefficient and pH of the egg white and egg yolk until about 10 days. Egg stored at 13$^{\circ}C$, based on the depth of air cell. were acceptable by about 10 days of storage, but on the other physico-chemical tests by about 7 days. Egg samples stored at room temperature(about 27$^{\circ}C$) base on the depth of air cell, were acceptable by about 5 days of storage ; on the specific gravity by 4 days ; and on the egg yolk coefficient and pH of the egg yolk and egg white by 3 days. The results of this study showed that egg stored at 5$^{\circ}C$ were considered acceptable by 10 days of storage ; at 13$^{\circ}C$ by 7 days ; at room temperature (27$^{\circ}C$) by 3 days.
