  • The purpose of this study is ; 1) to identify the overall levels of family problem and stress perceived by urban homemakers, 2) to investigate the relations between them. For the purpose of this study, the samples were chosen among 369 homemakers living in Seoul. These data were analyzed by Frequency, mean, t-test, F-test, Duncan's Multiple Rang test and pearson's correlation. The significant results are as follows : 1) urban homemakers perceive 'economic problem' as the highest level, 'children problem' as the second one and 'health problem' as the lowest one in family life problem. There is significant difference in family problem perception according to education level, husband's job, children's numbers, and living level. 2) There is not sigificant difference in stress level according to independence variables. 3) There are positive correlations between the family problem perception and stress level of urban homemakers. In conclusion, we come to know every field of family life effects homemakers as stressors. According, it is necessary for us to understand and prevent family life problem in order to release stress perceived by homemakers.

  • In this paper, an evaluation method of fracture toughness to apply interfacial fracture mechanics was investigated in adhesively bonded double-cantilever beam (DCB) joints. Four types of adhesively bonded DCB joints with an interface crack were prepared for analyses of the stress intensity factors using boundary element method(BEM) and the fracture toughness test. From the results of BEM analysis and fracture toughness experiments, it is found that the stress intensity factor, K1 is a parameter driving the fracture of adhesively bonded joints. Also, the evaluation method of fracture toughness by separated stress intensity factors of mixed mode cracks was proposed and the influences of mode components for its fracture toughness are investigated in adhesively bonded DCB joints.

  • Nitrosative stress can prevent or induce apoptosis. It occurs via S-nitrosylation by the interaction of nitric oxide (NO) with the biological thiols of proteins. Cellular redox potential and non-heme iron content determine S-nitrosylation. Apoptotic cell death is inhibited by S-nitrosylation of the redox-sensitive thiol in the catalytic site of caspase family proteases, which play an essential role in the apoptotic signal cascade. Nitrosative stress can also promote apoptosis by the activation of mitochondrial apoptotic pathways, such as the release of cytochrome c, an apoptosis-inducing factor, and endonuclease G from mitochondria, as well as the suppression of NF-${\kappa}B$ activity. In this article we reviewed the mechanisms whereby S-nitrosylation and nitrosative stress regulate the apoptotic signal cascade.

  • In an attempt to identify the neuroprotective effect of Cudrania tricuspidata (CT) leaves against ROS (reactive oxygen species)-induced oxidative stress in neuronal cells, the extracts from CT leaves were investigated using PC12 cells and N18-RE-105 cells. The methanolic and ethanolic extracts from CT were denoted as CTM (Cudrania tricuspidata Leaves methanolic extracts) and CTE (Cudrania tricuspidata Leaves ethanolic extracts), respectively. The neuroprotective effects of the extracts were measured by DCF-DA assay, MTT reduction assay, and LDH release assay. The PC12 cells exposed to $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative stress and the N18-RE-105 cells exposed to glutamate-induced oxidative stress were treated with various concentrations of CTM and CTE. The results, CTM treatments resulted in the induction of a dose-dependent protective effect in PC12 cells and N18-RE-105 cells. Interestingly, CTE also showed neuroprotective effect in PC12 cells and N18-RE-105 cells. Therefore, these results suggest that CTM and CTE could be a new potential candidate as neuroprotective agents against ROS-induced oxidative stress in neuronal cells.

  • Two parameter technique that uses far-field stress and displacement distributions was applied to composite laminates in order to calculate mode II energy release rate, $G_{II}$ . The $G_{II}$ calculated by two parameter technique was compared with that calculated from the crack closure method to inspect the effectiveness of two parameter technique. Sensitivity study of two parameter technique to the crack extension size was also performed. The results showed that both methods produced comparable $G_{II}$ results. In particular, it was found that although the crack closure method was affected by the crack extension size, the two parameter technique was less affected by the crack extension size.

  • This paper presets experimental and analytical studies of ultimate strength of [$[30_2/-30_2/90]_S$ carbon/epoxy laminates with free-edge delamination under uniaxial tension. We performed tensile teat far laminates with Telflon inserted on interfaces to simulate initial free-edge delamination, The experiment reveals that extensional stiffness of the laminate decreases by the initiation of the delamination, and that strength of the laminate without delamination is smaller than that of the laminates with delamination. Generalized quasi-three delamination finite element analysis, which employs energy release rate and maximum stress criteria, predicts the ultimate strength of the laminates with sufficient accuracy.

  • An interfacial penny-shaped crack between piezoelectric layer and elastic half-space subjected to mechanical and electric loads is investigated. Using Hankel transform technique, the mixed boundary value problem is reduced to a system of singular integral equations. The integral equations are further reduced to a system of algebraic equations with the aid of Jacobi polynomials. The stress intensity factor and energy release rate are determined. Numerical results reveal the effects of electric loadings and material parameters of composite on crack propagation and growth. The results seem useful for design of the piezoelectric composite structures and devices of high performance.

  • Delamination means that cracking occurs on the interface layer between composite laminates. In this paper, to predict the delamination growth in composite laminates subjected to low-velocity impact, the unit load method was introduced, and an eighteen-node 3-D finite element analysis, based on assumed strain mixed formulation, was conducted. Strain energy release rate, necessary to determine the delamination growth, was calculated by using the virtual crack closure technique. The unit load method saves the computation time more than the re-meshing method. The virtual crack closure technique enables the strain energy release rate to be easily calculated, because information of the singular stress field near the crack tip is not required. Hence, the delamination growth in composite laminates that are subjected to low-velocity impact can be efficiently predicted using the above-mentioned methods.

  • We consider the problem of determining the singular stresses and electric fields in a piezoelectric ceramic strip containing a Griffith eccentric crack off the center line under anti-plane shear loading with the theory of linear piezoelectricity. Fourier transforms are used to reduce the problem to the solution of two pairs of dual integral equations, which are then expressed to a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. Numerical values on the stress intensity factor and the energy release rate are obtained, and the influences of the electric fields for piezoelectric ceramics are discussed.

  • This article deals with the numerical analysis results of stiffness of diaphragm spring used in the clutch of a manual transmission. In order to investigate the relationship of the force and displacement in a diaphragm spring, we have established a numerical model of diaphragm spring using a well-known analytic model of Belleville spring and a cantilever beam model for the finger part of diaphragm spring. Using the stress and strain relations of Belleville spring and cantilever beam, we propose the analytic equation of motion of diaphragm spring for the use of a clutch automated actuator in an automated manual transmission. The proposed analytic model represents the typical dynamic characteristics of diaphragm spring along with the release bearing travel. And it is characterized in a closed-form equation, therefore it can be used for the further study of development of actuator and control law of clutch automating mechanism.
