Instrumented indentation testing has been widely used for residual stress measurement. The Knoop indentation is mainly selected for determining anisotropic mechanical properties and non-equibiaxial residual stress. However, the measurement of equibiaxial stress state and compressive residual stress on a specimen surface using Knoop indentation is neither fully comprehended nor unavailable. In this study, we investigated stress conversion factors for measuring Knoop indentation on equibiaxial stress state through indentation depth using finite element analysis. Knoop indentation was conducted for specimens to determine tensile and compressive equibiaxial residual stress. Both were found to be increased proportionally according to indentation depth. The stress field beneath the indenter during each indentation test was also analyzed. Compressive residual stress suppressed the in-plane expansion of stress field during indentation. In contrast, stress fields beneath the indenter developed diagonally downward for tensile residual stress. Furthermore, differences between trends of stress fields at long and short axes of Knoop indenter were observed due to difference in indenting angles and the projected area of plastic zone that was exposed to residual stress.

This thesis attempt to explore the shape of stress wave propagation of 3-dimensional stress field which is made in the process of time increment. A finite element code about 3-dimensional stress wave propagation is developed for investigating the changing shape of the fracture by the impact load. The Finite Element Code, which is the solution for the 3-dimensional stress wave analysis, based on Galerkins and Newmark- .betha. method at time increment step. The tensile stress and compressive stress become larger with the order of the middle, the upper and the opposite layers when the impact load is applied. In a while the shear stress become larger according to the order of the upper, the middle and the opposite layers when impact load applied.
An investigation was performed to predict residual stress redistribution for the crack propagation initially through tensile residual stress field. The analytical method, which is based on Dugdale model by finite element analysis using elastic analysis method considering the superposition principle, was proposed to estimate the redistribution of residual stress caused by crack propagation. The various aspect of distribution of residual stress caused by crack propagation was examined based on the configuration change of specimen. The analysis results show that the aspect of redistribution of residual stress caused by crack propagation depends on the width of the specimen provided that the initial distribution of residual stress is identical.

The purpose of this study was to closely examine the influence of field-shock experience and post traumatic stress perceived by fire officials upon somatic symptoms and coping methods. A survey was carried out targeting 362 male and female fire officials who are working at fire safety centers where are located in Gangwon-do Province. The collected data were used SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 19.0 for Windows. It carried out frequency analysis, factor analysis for validity and reliability, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ analysis, descriptive statistics and correlation. For hypothesis verification, an analysis was carried out by using structural equation modeling. All the statistical analyses were set for the significant level in p<.05. The results are as follows. First, the perceived field-shock stress was indicated to have influence upon post traumatic stress. Second, the perceived field-shock stress was indicated to have influence upon somatic symptom. Third, the perceived field-shock stress was indicated to have influence upon a coping method. Fourth, the post traumatic stress was indicated to have influence upon somatic symptom. Fifth, the post traumatic stress was indicated to have influence upon a coping method. Sixthly, the somatic symptom was indicated to have influence upon a method of coping with stress.

Objective: In this study, the anti-stress effects of extract of Hydrangeae Dulcis Folium (EHDF) or ethalonic extract of Opuntiaficus-indica (EOF) of natural extracts from Jeju Island were investigated. Methods: We performed measurement of whole-body cortisol level and behavioral experiments including the novel tank test (NTT) or the open field test (OFT) to assess stress responses in zebrafish. To induce physical stress, we used the net handling stress (NHS). Fish were treated with EOF or EHDF for 6 min before they were exposed to stress. And then, we sacrificed fish for collecting body fluid from whole-body or conducted behavioural tests, including novel tank test and open field test, were evaluated to observe anxiety-like behaviours and locomotion. We used the cortisol enzyme-linked immunoassay kit to measure the amount of cortisol in each zebrafish sample. Results: The results indicate that increased anxiety-like behaviours in novel tank test and open field test under stress were prevented by treatment with both EOF and EHDF (P < 0.05). Moreover, compared with the unstressed group, which was not treated with NHS, the whole-body cortisol level was significantly increased by treatment with NHS. Compared with the NHS-treated stressed control group, pre-treatment with each EHDF and EOF for 6 min significantly prevented the NHS-increased whole-body cortisol level (P < 0.05). Conclusions: In conclusion these results suggest that both EOF and EHDF pretreatment may prevent stress responses and that its mechanism of action may be related to its positive effects on cortisol release.

When the interfacial crack of two dissimilar isotropic bi-materials is propagated with constant velocity along the interface, stress and displacement components are derived in this research. The dynamic photoelastic experimental hybrid method for bimaterial is introduced. It is assured that stress components and dynamic photoelastic hybrid method developed in this research are valid. Separating method of stress component is introduced from only dynamic photoelastic fringe patterns. Crack propagating velocity of interfacial crack is 80∼85% (in case of aluminum, 24.3∼25.9%) of Rayleigh wave velocity of epoxy resin. The near-field stress components of crack-tip are similar with those of pure isotropic material under static or dynamic loading, but very near-field stress components of crack-tip are different from those.
Structural stress under shock or impact load is varied with the lapse of time and the structural stress is called stress wave. Propagating longitudinal stress wave is studied in a 2-dimensional plate. A finite element program for elastic stress wave propagation is developed in order to investigate the shape of stress field at time increment. The longitudinal stress wave is generated by unit step function. According to the finite element analysis results, the longitudinal stress wave propagates to the similar direction of impact load and the front of stress wave propagates with the same speed as analytic solution and the shape of stress field is similar to that of analytic solution. The shear wave is occurred after the longitudinal stress wave and declined at an angle of 45 degrees compared with longitudinal stress wave and the speed of shear wave is about a half of the longitudinal stress wave. The intensity of shear wave is larger than that of longitudinal stress wave.

To investigate the effect of stress wave propagation for crack tip, impact responses of two-dimensional plates with oblique cracks are investigated by a numerical method. In the numerical analysis, the finite element method is used in space domain discretization and the Newmark constant acceleration algorithm is used in time integration. According to the numerical results from the impact response analysis. it is found that the stress fields are bisected at the crack surface and the parts of stress intensity are moved along the crack face. The crack tip stress fields are yaried rapidly. The magnitude of crack tip stress fields are converted to dynamic stress intensity factor. Dynamic sress intensity factor appears when the stress wave has reached at the crack tip and the aspect of change of dynamic stress intensity factor is shown to be the same as the part of the flow of stress intensity.

The effects of electric field strength and mechanical compressive stress on the displacement of multilayered ceramic actuator, stacked alternatively 0.2 (PbM $n_{1}$3/N $b_{2}$3/ $O_3$)-0.8(PbZ $r_{0.475}$$Ti_{0.525}$$O_3$) ceramic thin films and 70Ag-30Pd electrodes were investigated. Because the actuators were designed to stack ceramic layer and electrode layer alternatively, the ceramic-electrode interfaces may act as a resistance to motion of domain wall. so the polarization and strain were affected by the amount of 180$^{\circ}$domain, electric field strength and mechanical compressive stress. Consequently, the change of polarization, displacement with respect to field strength, and mechanical compressive stress were likely to be caused by readiness of the domain wall movement around the ceramic-electrode interfaces.ces.
The finite element analysis was performed for the cracks existing in residual stress fields in order to investigate the effects of configuration of residual stress distribution to the fatigue crack opening behaviour. And the variation of stress distributions adjacent to the crack caused by uploading was examined. The finite element model with contact elements for the crack plane and plane stress elements for the base material and the analytical method based on the superposition principle to estimate crack opening behaviour and the stress distribution adjacent to the crack subjected to uploading were used. The results of the analysis showed that crack opening behaviors and variations of stress distribution caused by uploading were changed depending on the configuration of residual stress distribution. When the crack existed in the region of compressive residual stress and the configuration of compressive residual stress distribution were inclined, a partial crack opening just behind of a crack tip occurred during uploading. Based on the above results, it was clarified that the crack opening behaviour in the residual stress field could be predicted accurately by the finite element analysis using these analytical method and model.
