The crashworthiness of the fuel tank of a rotorcraft is verified through the crash impact test. The crash impact test has a high risk of failure due to the application of an excessive load, which can seriously affect the overall development schedule of the aircraft. Therefore, a lot of effort has been made to minimize the possibility of failure in the actual test by carrying out a numerical analysis of the crash impact test of the fuel tank in the initial design stage. Recently, an external auxiliary fuel tank was added to increase the cruising distance. In this study, the numerical analysis results of the crash impact test based on several different shapes of the external auxiliary fuel tank are presented, in order to evaluate its crashworthiness. For the numerical analysis, smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), which is one of the fluid-structure coupled analysis methods, is applied and the test conditions prescribed by US military standards are reflected in the analysis conditions. In addition, the material property data previously obtained by the specimen test of the actual fuel tank is applied to the numerical analysis. As a result, the equivalent stress of the fuel tank material itself and the metal fitting is provided and the possibility of acquiring data for designing the crash-worthiness of the external auxiliary fuel tank is evaluated by examining the behavior and working load of the internal mounted components.
The purpose of this research is to establish a concept of the factor of safety of tunnels which is a quantitative estimate of the stability of tunnels. Based on this concept, a numerical technique which calculates the factor of safety of tunnels was developed. To obtain the safety factor of a tunnel, the strength reduction technique in which a series of analyses are repeated with reduced ground strength until the tunnel collapses were employed. With this technique, the failure plane, as well as the factor of safety, can be obtained without prescribing the trial failure plane. Analyses were conducted with FLA $C^{2D}$(ver3.3), a geotechnical analysis program which is based on the finite difference method. From the result, the location of plastic zones, the maximum convergence and the maximum stress generated in the support system were also analyzed. The result shows that factors of safety are higher for the 1st and 2nd rock classes, and lower for the lower rock classes. Furthermore, factor of safety is higher when $K_{0}$ =0.5 compared to at in case of $K_{0}$ =2.0. Through this research, it is found that the factor of safety defined in this research can be used as a good quantitative index representing the stability of tunnels. Also, close examination of the results can help adjustment of the quantity and location of additional supports.s.

Purpose: This in vitro study evaluated shear bond strengths of surface treatment porcelains with four porcelain repair systems simulating intraoral bonding of composite resin to feldspathic porcelain or pressable porcelain. Material and methods: Eighty Porcelain disks were prepared. Group A: forty disk specimens were fabricated with Feldspathic Porcelain($Omega^{(R)}900$, Vident, Menlo Park, CA, USA). Group B: forty disk specimens were fabricated with Pressable Porcelain(IPS Empress 2 ingot, Ivoclar-Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein, Germany). Each groups was divided into 4 subgroups and composite resin cylinders were bonded to specimen with one of the following four systems: Clearfil Porcelain Bond(L. Morita, Tustin, CA, USA), Ulradent Porcelain Etch. (Ultradent, Salt Lake City UT, USA), Porcelain Liner-M(Sun Medical Co., Kyoto, Japan), Cimara Kit(Voco, Germany). After surface conditioning with one of the four porcelain repair systems substrate surfaces of the specimen were examined microscopically(SEM). Shear bond strengths of specimens for each subgroup were determined with a universal testing machine (5mm/min crosshead speed) after storing them in distilled water at $37{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. Stress at failure was measured in $MP_a$, and mode of failure was recorded. Differences among four repair systems were analyzed with two way ANOVA and Duncan test at the 95% significance level. Results: In the scanning electron photomicrograph of the treated porcelain surface, hydrofluoric acid etched group appeared the highest roughness. The shear bond strength of the phosphoric acid etched group was not significantly(p>0.05) different between feldspathic porcelain and pressable porcelain. But in no treatment and roughened with a bur group, the shear bond strength of the feldspathic porcelain was significantly higher than that of the pressable porcelain. In hydrofluoric acid etched group, the shear bond strength of the pressable porcelain was significantly higher(p<0.05). Conclusion: 1. Treatment groups showed significantly greater shear bond strengths than no treatment group(p<0.05). 2. Group with more roughened porcelain surface did not always show higher shear bond strengths. 3. In phosphoric acid etched group, there was no significant difference in shear bond strength between feldspathic porcelain and pressable porcelain(p>0.05). However in the other groups, there were significant differences in shear bond strengths between feldspathic porcelain and pressable porcelain(p<0.05).
In the shear failure mechanism of a beam, beam and arch actions always exist simultaneously. According to the shear span to depth ratio, the proportion between these two actions is varied and the contribution of these actions to shear capacity is changed. Moreover, the current codes provide recommendations based on experimental results of normal strength concrete, so the application range of concrete strength must be extended. Based on this mechanism and new requirement, a simplified analytical equation for shear capacity prediction of reinforced high strength concrete beams without stirrups is proposed. To reflect the change in the contribution between these actions, stress variation in the longitudinal reinforcement along the span is considered by use of the Jenq and Shah Model. Dowel action with horizontal splitting failure and shear friction between cracks are also taken into account. ize effect is included to derive a more precise equation. Regression analysis is performed to determine each variable and simplify the equation. And, the formula derived from theoretical approaches is evaluated by comparison with numerous experimental data, which are in broad range of concrete strength(especially in high strength concrete), shear span to depth ratio, geometrical size and longitudinal steel ratio. It is shown that the proposed equation is more accurate and simpler than other empirical equations, so a wide range of a/d can be considered in one equation.
The requirements of the maximum shear reinforcement in the EC2-02 and CSA-04, which are developed based on the truss model, are quite different to those in the ACI-08 code and AIJ-99 code, which are empirical equations. The ACI 318-08, CSA-04, and EC2-02 codes provide an expression for the maximum amount of shear reinforcement ratio as a function of the concrete compressive strength, but Japanese code does not take the influence of the concrete compressive strength into account. For high strength concrete, the maximum amount of shear reinforcement calculated by the EC2-02 and CSA-04 is much greater than that calculated by the ACI 318-08. Ten RC beams having various shear reinforcement ratios were tested and their corresponding shear stress-shear strain curves and failure modes were compared to the predicted ones obtained by the current design codes.

In this study, reliabilities of Cu (60 um)/SnAg (20 um) double-bump flip chip assemblies were investigated for the flip chip interconnections on organic substrates with 100 um pitch. After multiple reflows at $250^{\circ}C\;and\;280^{\circ}C$, bump contact resistances were almost same regardless of number of reflows and reflow temperature. In the high temperature storage test, there was no bump contact resistance change at $125^{\circ}C$ up to 2000 hours. However, bump contact resistances slightly increased at $150^{\circ}C$ due to Kirkendall voids formation. In the electromigration test, Cu/SnAg double-bump flip chip assemblies showed no electromigration until about 600 hours due to reduced local current density. Finally, in the thermal cycling test, thermal cycling failure mainly occurred at Si chip/Cu column interface which was found out the highest stress concentration site in the finite element analysis. As a result, Al pad was displaced out under thermal cycling. This failure mode was caused by normal compressive strain acting Cu column bumps along perpendicular direction of a Si chip.
Failure of fixed implant supported prosthesis is caused by biomechanical factors such as excessive occlusal stress and biological factors such as bacterial infections and inflammation. Implants with severe bone resorption that have worsened without being resolved due to implant complications should be removed and then new treatments should be planned, taking into account remaining teeth, remaining implants, and residual alveolar. The patient of this case removed some of fixed implant prosthesis of mandible. The condition of the remaining alveolar bone was reassessed for further implant replacement and a few implants were placed. Then implant assisted removable partial denture (IAPRD) treatment is performed using implant surveyed bridge as abutment. Through this treatment, the clinical results were satisfactory on aspect of masticatory function recovery and oral hygiene management.

Self-sensing on micro-failure, dispersion degree and relating properties, of carbon nanotube(CNT)/epoxy composites, were investigated using wettability, electro-micromechanical technique with acoustic emission(AE). Specimens were prepared from neat epoxy as well as composites with untreated and acid-treated CNT. Degree of dispersion was evaluated comparatively by measuring volumetric electrical resistivity and its standard deviation. Apparent modulus containing the stress transfer was higher for acid-treated CNT composite than for the untreated case. Applied cyclic loading responded well for a single carbon fiber/CNT-epoxy composite by the change in contact resistivity. The interfacial shear strength between a single carbon fiber and CNT-epoxy, determined in a fiber pullout test, was lower than that between a single carbon fiber and neat epoxy. Regarding on micro-damage sensing using electrical resistivity measurement with AE, the stepwise increment in electrical resistivity was observed for a single carbon fiber/CNT -epoxy composite. On the other hand, electrical resistivity increased infinitely right after the first carbon fiber breaks for a single carbon fiber/neat epoxy composite. The occurrence of AE events of added CNT composites was much higher than the neat epoxy case, due to micro failure at the interfaces by added CNTs.
Reinforced-concrete (RC) columns are frequently designed and constructed. other types of columns includes composite types such as concrete-filled tube columns (CFT). Hollow RC columns may be effective in reducing both the self weight of columns and total amount of materials used. This is due to the fact that a hollow RC column possesses larger moment of inertia than that of solid RC columns of same cross sectional area. Despite the effectiveness the hollow RC column has not been popular because of its poor ductility performance. While the transverse reinforcements are effective in controlling the brittle failure of the outside concrete, they are not capable of resisting the failure of concrete of inner face which is in unconfined state of stress. To overcome these drawbacks, the internally confined hollow reinforced concrete (ICH RC), a new column type, was proposed in the previous researches. In this study, the fire resistance performance of the ICH RC columns was analyzed through a series of extensive heat transfer analyses using the nonlinear-material model program. Also, effect of factors such as the hollowness ratio, thickness of the concrete, and thickness of the internal tube on the fire resistance performance were extensively studied. Then the factors that enhance the fire-resistant performance of ICH RC were presented and analyzed.

Fracture causes serious problems in many instance of prosthetic failures. But it is hard to find the definite causes when fractures occur. Fractography encompasses the examination of fracture surfaces that contain features resulting from the interaction of the advancing crack with the microstructure of the material and the stress fields. All fractured specimens(implant retaining screw) retrieved from Gangneung-Wonju national university dental hospital for 3 years(from 2007 to 2009). After pretreatment of samples, the scanning electon microscope were used for surface examination and fracture analysis. In case of most of the fractured specimens, fracture took place by fatigue fracture and fractured surface represents fatigue striation. Fatigue striation indicate the progression of the crack front under cyclic loading, are characteristic of stage 2 crack growth. The site of crack initiation and stage 1 crack growth were not easily identified in any of the failure, presumably because of the complex microstructural features of the polycrystalline sample. In case of fractured by overload, dimpled or cleavage surface were observed. Using the interpretation of characteristic markings(ratchet mark, fatigue striation, dimple, cleavage et al) in fracture surfaces, failure events containing the crack origin, crack propagation, material deficiency could be understand. Using the interpretation of characteristic markings in fracture surfaces, cause and mechanism of fractures could be analyzed.
