  • This paper presents an accelerated life test for burnout of tungsten filament of incandescent lamp. From failure analyses of field samples, it is shown that their root causes are local heating or hot sports in the filament caused by tungsten evaporation and wire sag. Finite element analysis is performed to evaluate the effect of vibration and impact for burnout, but any points of stress concentration or structural weakness are not found in the sample. To estimate the burnout life of lamp, an accelerated life test is planned by using quality function deployment and fractional factorial design, where voltage, vibration, and temperature are selected as accelerating variables. We assumed that Weibull lifetime distribution and a generalized linear model of life-stress relationship hold through goodness of fit test and test for common shape parameter of the distribution. Using accelerated life testing software, we estimated the common shape parameter of Weibull distribution, life-stress relationship, and accelerating factor.

Nail Head 형상을 가지는 레이저 용접 단면부의 잔류응력 분포 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Distribution of Welding Residual Stresses in Laser Welds with the Nail-head Shape)

  • During the laser welding, weldments are suddenly heated by laser beam and cooled. This phenomenon gives occasion to complex welding residual stresses, which have a great influence on structural instability strength, in laser welds. However, a relevant research on this field is not sufficient until present and residual stress measurements have experimental and practical limitations. For these reasons a numerical simulation may be attractive in order to solve the residual stress problem. In order to determine the distribution of heat and welding residual stresses in laser welds with the nail-head shape, authors conduct the finite element analysis (two-dimensional unstationary heat conduction & thermal elasto-plastic analysis). From the result of this study, we can confirm the stress concentration is occurred at the place of melting line shape changed in laser welds with the nail-head shape.

미소결함간의 응력의 간섭과 응력장 해석 (A Study of Stress Analysis and Interaction of Stress between Micro Flaws and Inclusions)

  • The stress distribution around micro holes and the behavior of stress interaction between micro holes are considerd in the study. Several conclusions are extracted as follows : (1) The stress interaction varies with the distance e between micro holes. When the two micro holes are spaced in such a manner that theri two closest points are separated by a distance of micro hole radius (e=1), stress distribution is affected by a opposite micro hole in all the closest region. In addition, if two closest points are seperated by twice the distance of a micro hole radius (e=2), stress distribution is affected by a opposite micro hole in the region of -0.8.leq.x/r.leq.0.8 and the interaction effect can be neglected for e=4. (2)If the depth becomes larger than the radius, or the radius varies, the shape and magnitude of stress distribution around micro holes varies. (3) Hoop stress around a micro hole for the two dimensional configuration is larger than that of the three dimensional micro hole located on the surface of material for .theta. < 60.deg., but it is reversed for .theta > 60.deg.

  • In finite element analysis of mechanical behavior of weld, typical process is first to obtain a finite element model containing residual stress by conducting welding analysis and then to examine the computational specimen for various external loading. The numerical specimen with residual stress has irregular boundary lines since one usually begins the welding analysis from a body having regular straight boundary lines and large thermal contraction takes place during cooling of weld metal. We notice that these numerical weld specimens are different from the real weld specimens as the real specimens are usually cut from a bigger weld part and consequently have straight boundaries neglecting elastic relaxation associated with the cutting. In this paper, an iterative finite element method is described to obtain a weld specimen which is bounded by straight lines. The stress distributions of two types of weld specimen, one with regular and the other with irregular boundaries, are compared to check the effect of the boundary shape. Results show that the stress distribution can be different when large plastic deformation is induced by the application of external loading. In case of elastic small deformation, the difference turns out almost negligible.

Residual stresses and viscoelastic deformation of an injection molded automotive part

  • Injection molding is one of the most common operations in polymer processing. Good quality products are usually obtained and major post-processing treatment is not required. However, residual stresses which exist in plastic parts affect the final shape and mechanical properties after ejection. Residual stresses are caused by polymer melt flow, pressure distribution, non-uniform temperature field, and density distribution. Residual stresses are predicted in this study by numerical methods using commercially available softwares, $Hypermesh^{TM},\;Moldflow^{TM}\;and\;ABAQUS^{TM}$. Cavity filling, packing, and cooling stages are simulated to predict residual stress field right after ejection by assuming an isotropic elastic solid. Thermo-viscoelastic stress analysis is carried out to predict deformation and residual stress distribution after annealing of the part. Residual stresses are measured by the hole drilling method because the automotive part selected in this study has a complex shape. Residual stress distribution predicted by the thermal stress analysis is compared with the measurement results obtained by the hole drilling method. The molded specimen has residual stress distribution in tension, compression, and tension from the surface to the center of the part. Viscoelastic deformation of the part is predicted during annealing and the deformed geometry is compared with that measured by a three dimensional scanner. The viscoelastic stress analysis with a thermal cycle will enable us to predict long term behavior of the injection molded polymeric parts.

척추체간 유합케이지의 스파이크형상 변화에 따른 척추체의 응력분포 및 케이지의 안정성에 대한 수치적 해석 (Numerical Analysis on Stress Distribution of Vertebra and Stability of Intervertebral Fusion Cage with Change of Spike Shape)

  • 척추체간 유합케이지의 성능평가에 있어서 압축강도와 상대적인 3차원적 안정성 그리고 골유도를 촉진시킬 수 있는 형상은 성공적인 골유합의 정도를 판가름 할 수 있는 중요한 척도이다. 새로 고안된 박스형 유합케이지 스파이크의 형상변화에 따른 척추체의 골단판에 미치는 응력분포 양상과 케이지의 안정성을 비교하기 위하여 압축하중 작용 초기에 스파이크 끝딘과 골단판이 접촉하는 경우와 스파이크가 골단판에 삽입되었을 경우를 구분하여 스파이크의 높이, 폭 및 각도를 변화시켜 가면서 유한요소 해석을 실시하여 고찰하였다. 유합케이지 2개가 척추체간에 삽입되어 있는 상태에서 수직하중 1700N이 가해질 때 척추체 골단판에 전달되는 응력분포를 조사하였으며, 전, 후방향으로 케이지 하나에 100N의 pull out하중을 부과하여 케이지의 스파이크 형상변화에 따른 미세이동 정도를 비교 평가하였다. 그 결과, 척추체 골단판의 응력 집중 정도에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 요인은 케이지스파이크 끝단 폭의 크기이며, 케이지 스파이크의 높이 및 각도의 변화는 스파이크 끝단과 접촉하는 척추체 골단판에 미치는 응력 정도에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았다. 스파이크 경사면 각도조절 및 양방향혼합형의 대칭 배열을 통하여 전후방향 pull-out하중에 대한 변위량을 저감시킬 수 있었다. 본 연구의 결과를 통하여 척추체에서의 응력집중을 피할 수 있고 케이지의 초기 접촉시 골단판의 파괴를 방지하고 골유합에 유리한 케이지 스파이크 형상을 설계하였고, 케이지 치환술 후 운동시 전후방향으로 이동을 최소화하여 기계적 안정성을 높일 수 있는 새로운 척추체간 유합 케이지의 최적 형상을 제안하였다.

자동차 엔진 밸브 스프링에 사용되는 비원형 스프링 선의 단면 형상 최적화 (Shape Optimization of the Cross Section for a Non-circular Spring Wire of Valve Springs for an Automotive Engine)

  • Valve springs with non-circular cross-section are widely used in automotive engines. Because of the reduced height, the oval cross-section provides some merits in its install height and stress distribution. This paper introduces a new method to generate optimal shape of the non-circular cross-section. For given width and height, arbitrary shape of the cross-section are described using the Hermite spline curves. Cross-section area and maximum stress level are chosen as performance indices, and nonlinear optimization problems are formulated with inequality constraints. Compared to a production spring wire, cross-section area can be reduced about 2.4 [%] without increasing maximum stress level. In addition, the other approach gives an optimum cross-section which reduces maximum stress level of 2.0 [%] without increasing cross-section area.

광중합 콤포짓트레진의 수복형태 및 방법에 관한 삼차원 유한요소분석법적 비교 연구 (A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE COMPOSITE RESTORATION DESIGN AND PLACEMENT METHODS USING THREE DIMENSIONAL FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS)

  • Clinical application of composite resin recently draw great concerns in dentistry. Especially due to advantages such as esthetics, adhesiveness, simple clinical procedures, various shapes and kinds of composite resins are widely being applied to prosthodontics, conservative dentistry, and orthodontics. But, clinical problems attributable to the polymerization shrinkage of composite resin have been proposed, and we have to regard clinical problems such as secondary caries, loss of restoration, fracture of the surrounding tooth structure, marginal discoloration, and tooth sensitivity, and many portions are remained to be overcome. Therefore, this study attempts to analyze stress distribution between resin and tooth structure which is generated during polymerization shrinkage of composite resin using three dimensional finite element method. Three dimensional finite element models with conventional box-shape cavity and erosion/abrasion type V-shape lesion cavity in upper central incisor were developed. These cavities were filled with four different types of placement techniques. (bulk filling, horizontal increment filling, oblique occlusal increment filling, oblique gingival increment filling) The stresses generated by polymerization shrinkage of composite resin were calculated. The results analyzed with three dimensional finite element method were as follows : 1. The increment filling technique showed the highest maximum normal stress in both conventional box-shape and V-shape cavities and showed a tendency to decrease after complete polymerization. 2. The bulk filling technique resulted in increased stresses during the curing process in both conventional box-shape and V-shape cavities and the highest maximum normal stress occurred after complete polymerization. 3. The bulk filling resulted in the lowest maximum normal stress in both box-shape and V-shape cavities 4. Regardless of placement method, in conventional box-shape cavity, the maximum normal stress increased in dentin floor, enamel, dentin sequence and in V-shape cavity, the maximum normal stress increased in enamel, dentin sequence.

권취 공정 중 열연 강판의 잔류 응력 해석 (Residual Stress Analysis of Rot Rolled Strip in Coiling Process)

  • Hot rolled strip is cooled by air and water in Run-Out-Table. In this process, phase transformation and shape deformation occurs due to temperature drop. Because of un-ideal cooling condition of ROT, irregular shape deformation and phase transformation arise in the strip. which affect the strip property and lead to the residual stress of strip. And these exert effects on the following processes, coiling process, coil cooling process, and re-coiling process. Through these processes, the residual stress becomes higher and severe. For the prediction of residual stress distribution and shape deformation of final product, Finite element(FE) based model was used. It consists of non-steady state heat transfer analysis, elasto-plastic analysis. thermodynamic analysis and phase transformation kinetics. Successive FEM simulation were applied from ROT process to coil cooling process. In each process simulation, previous process simulation results were used for the next process simulation. The simulation results were matched well with the experimental results.

  • The role of disk clamp is to fasten disks to motor and to prevent the slip of disks during operation. This paper examined the effects of the design parameters of disk clamp - thickness, contact radius and cross-sectional shape -on the clamping force and circumferential stress distribution of disk. The large stress variation in circumferential direction results in large disk waveness and will increase repeatable run-out (RRO) finally. The disk clamp-disk-disk spacer system is modeled and the FE analysis is performed by ANSYS. The disk clamp with large contact radius shows more uniform stress distribution than the one with small contact radius and the stiffness variation around circumferential direct ion or the addition of the bending sect ion can make stress distribution uniform.
