The object of this paper is to study the flexural strengthening effectiveness on the construction method of bonding of the FRP. The existing FRP flexural strengthening methods were divided into FRP sheet strengthening and FRP plate strengthening according to the FRP condition. For improving the existing construction method, this paper proposed the velcro type anchorage system for temporary bonding material, and flexural strengthening effects were tested. Test variables were bonding methods of the FRP strengthening materials, and total 4 specimens were tested. Following to the test results, it is shown that FRP-plate strengthening method using the velcro can get better workability than existing construction methods, and have excellent strengthening performance including flexural strength, stiffness, ductility and failure aspect.

Recently many cases that using strengthening method with a steel plate or carbon-fiber sheet in a construction field are increasing. In this reason, it is demanded that developing a plan of preventing delamination of strengthening material. So in this research, for the case of strengthening method of steel plate, it is made use of notch and anchor bolt and for the case of carbon fiber sheet, it is made use of notch, anchor bolt, line anchor and shear strengthening. After all the cases were applied, we made 15 specimen beams. The beams was measured and analyzed about the behavior property of strengthened beams, the ability strengthening method, the relation between load and the shape of failure, the crack load, the yield load, the shape of crack pattern, the increasing rate from yield load and maximum load and the strain of rebar. All the strengthening methods results in almost same value until the yield load, and it wasn't quite different from the theoretical value. But for the case of increasing rate from the yield load and maximum load, comparing with the existing method, the new strengthening methods are proved to be profitable about the safety.

Routinely, strength method for the determination of the nominal moment of reinforced concrete beam is assumed to also be suitable for strengthening beams with carbon fiber sheets since typically strengthening beams compromise 98% by volume of reinforced concrete. Flexural capacity of strengthening beam is absolutely dependent upon the type of reinforcement materials, amount of reinforcement, anchoring system, adhesion capacity between reinforcement material and concrete. Therefore, it might be incorrect to use strength method for analysis and design of strengthening beam without considering the differences in the load-deflection curves, mechanism of failure, state of stress distribution, failure strain of the reinforcement. An flexural analysis based on force equilibrium and strain comparability has been developed for strengthening beam. Systematic experimental investigations are compared with analytical results. Then, the adaptation of strength method for strengthening beam have also been discussed.

The needs for strengthening and rehabilitation of the concrete bridges are a growing concern in many countries and has been emphasized in various researches and papers. Traditional external post-tensioning method using either steel bars or tendons is commonly used as a strengthening method. However, the method has some disadvantages such as stress concentration at the anchorages. Multi-stepwise thermal prestressing method is a newly proposed method for strengthening and rehabilitation of concrete girder bridges. Founded on a simple concept of thermal expansion and contraction of steel, the method is a hybrid method of external post-tensioning and steel plate bonding, combining the merits of two methods. In this paper, basic concepts on strengthening and rehabilitation of concrete girder are presented and an illustrative experiment is introduced.

The main purpose of this study is to develop a Sprayed FRP repair and strengthening method, which is a new technique for strengthening the existing concrete structures by mixing carbon or glass shot fibers and the epoxy or vinyl ester resins with high-speed compressed air in open air and randomly spraying the mixture onto the concrete surface. At present, the Sprayed FRP repair and strengthening method using the epoxy resin has not been fully discussed. In this study, a series of experiments are carried out to evaluate the strengthening effects of the flexural and shear concret beams strengthened with the Sprayed FRP method. The results revealed that the strengthening effects of the flexural and shear specimens are similar, compared to those of the FRP sheet.

This study is to develop a strengthening method for slab bridges with external prestressing. There are so many different strengthening methods for damaged slab bridges, external prestressing method is the most effective, economical and durable strengthening method among them. But, its problem lies in anchoring devices, so recently, an effective anchoring method was developed and showed its improvements. In this study, a more improved method is suggested. Longitudinal tendons placed on both side of slab strengthens the whole bridge, and lateral tendons placed under the slab strengthens the middle of slab, and conveys the load at middle slab to both sides. Structural analysis for the tensile force for strengthening were analysed. Generally, 200-280tons for longitudinal tendon and 130-190 tons for lateral tendons are good enough to strengthen the damaged slab. This method has no upward roof work, so it is very convenient for installing. And no spaces under the slab are need, so it is good for shallow slabs which has less space under the slab.
In this study a new innovative method of earthquake-resistant strengthening of reinforced concrete structures is presented for the first time. Strengthening according to this new method consists of the construction of steel fiber ultra-high-strength concrete jackets without conventional reinforcement which is usually applied in the construction of conventional reinforced concrete jackets. An innovative solution is proposed also for the first time that ensures a satisfactory seismic performance of existing reinforced concrete structures, strengthened by using composite materials. The weak point of the use of such materials in repairing and strengthening of old R/C structures is the area of beam-column joints. According to the proposed solution, the joints can be strengthened with a steel fiber ultra-high-strength concrete jacket, while strengthening of columns can be achieved by using CFRPs. The experimental results showed that the performance of the subassemblage strengthened with the proposed mixed solution was much better than that of the subassemblage retrofitted completely with CFRPs.
A recent and promising method for shear strengthening of reinforced concrete(RC) members is the use of near surface mounted(NSM) fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) reinforcement. In the NSM method, the reinforcement is embedded in grooves cut onto the surface of the member to be strengthened and filled with an appropriate binding agent such as epoxy paste or cement grout. This paper illustrates a research program on shear strengthening of RC beams with NSM channel-type FRP beams which is developed in this study. The objective of this study is to clarify the role of channel-type FRP beam embedded to the beam web for shear strengthening of reinforced concrete beams. Included in the study are effectiveness in terms of spacing and angle of channel-type FRP beams, strengthening method, and shear span ratio. the study also aims to understand the additional shear capacity due to glass fiber reinforced polymer beams and carbon reinforced polymer beams. And anther objective is to study the failure modes, shear strengthening effect on ultimate force and load deflection behavior of RC beams embedded with channel-type FRP beams on the shear region of the beams.

This paper presents the shear strengthening effect of externally post-tensioning (EPT) method using high-strength steel rod in pre-cracked reinforced concrete (RC) beams. Three- and four-point bending tests were performed on a total of 8 specimens by adjusting the strengthening depths in the deviator position of EPT. The effective strengthening depths were 435, 535, and 610 mm. The pre-loading up to about 2/3 of ultimate load capacity measured in unstrengthened RC beam were applied in the beam to be post-tensioned. The EPT method was then applied to the pre-damaged RC beams and re-loading was added until the end of the test. EPT restored deflections of 3 mm or more, which account for about 40% of deflection when the pre-loading was applied. The shear strengthening increases more than 3 times and 36~107% in terms of the stiffness and load-carrying capacity compared to unstrengthening RC beams. The increased load-carrying capacities of the post-tensioned beam with strengthening depths of 435 and 535 mm are almost the same as 36~61%, and those of 610 mm are 84~107%, which shows the greatest shear strengthening effect.

Steel plate or fiber composite plate are mainly used in externally bonding method. Shear strengthening by externally bonding method is to confirm shear safety and to avoid brittle failure. In case of strengthening by externally bonding method, a failure of structure occurs frequently due to delamination between strengthening plate and concrete. Therefore, it is important to consider the delamination in the strengthening design. The objective of this study is to propose a modified shear strength evaluation by considering the delamination. The delamination criteria of strengthening plate is established by the ultimate strain and shear stress. And shear strength of RC beams is proposed in terms of the delamination criteria. The proposed shear strength is compared with test results and verified through the comparison.
