  • An aluminum foil-laminated sheet is a laminated steel sheet on which aluminum foil is adhesively bonded. It is usually used on the outer panel of home appliances to provide an aluminum feeling and appearance on the surface of the product. The delamination of aluminum foil is one of the main problems during the stretch forming process. The purpose of this study is was to determine the delamination limit of an aluminum foil-laminated sheet in the stretch forming process. The delamination was dependent on the bonding strength between aluminum foil and steel sheet. The fracture behavior of the interface between the aluminum foil and the steel sheet was described by a cohesive zone model. A finite element was conducted with the cohesive zone model to analyze the relationship between the delamination limit and the bonding strength of the interface. The interface bonding strength was evaluated by lap shear and T-peel test. The delamination limit of the aluminum foil-laminated sheet was determined by using the bonding strength of the steel sheet. The delamination limit was also verified by the Erichsen test.

  • This study was performed to determine the characteristics of physical and mechanical properties of domestic wood based materials; plywood, particleboard, medium density fiberboard. Main items of tested properties were panel size, moisture content, water absorption, linear expansion and thickness swelling, glue bond shear strength, bending properties(stress at proportional limit, modulus of rupture. modulus of elasticity), tensile strength, screw holding strength, and internal bond as neccessary. the results were discussed mainly with Korean Standards. The obtained conclusions are as follows; 1. Length and width of 3mm thin plywood(3-ply) and 12mm thick plywood(7-ply) were satished with KS-standard, but thicknesses of these panels were not- passed tolerance limit except one of eight makers. 2. Length and width of particleboard and medium density fiberboard were greater than the tolerance limit value of KS standard, but the thicknesses of these panels were passed this value. 3. Moisture contents of 12mm thick and 3mm thin plywood were satisfied with KS-standard except one mill made 3mm thin plywood. 4. Moisture absortion of plywood was not passed tolerance limit of KS-standard but particleboard was satisfied with this standard value. 5. Dry and wet shear strengths in glue bond of 3mm thin plywood were not reached to KS-standard, but those of 12mm thick plywood were sufficiently satisfied with KS standrad. 6. Modulus of ruptures, parallel to grain and perpendicular to grain of plywood, and particleboard and medium density fiberboard were satisfied with KS-standard. 7. Tensile strengths, parallel to grain and perpendicular to grain of plywood were satisfied with allowance stress of US product standard PS 1-74. 8. Screw holding strength of particleboard was not reached to KS standard, but internal bond was satisfied with KS standard.

  • The aim of this study is to estimate the reliability of fatigue limit of the material used for crank throw components according to the staircase method. The material used for crank throw components is forged S34MnV grade steel, which is heat treated by normalizing and tempering. In this work, to predict the reliability of the design fatigue strength, axially loaded constant amplitude fatigue testing was conducted. The test specimens were loaded with an axial push/pull load with a mean stress of 0 MPa, which corresponds to a stress ratio of R=-1. The fatigue test results were evaluated by Dixon-Mood formulas. The values of mean fatigue strength and standard deviation predicted by the staircase method were 296.3 MPa and 10.6 MPa, respectively. Finally, the reliability of the fatigue limit in some selected probability of failure is predicted. The proposed method can be applied for the determination of fatigue strength for design optimization of the forged steel.

  • The slope stability analysis by the limit equilibrium method has the disadvantage that it can be applied only when the analysis is performed by setting the critical plane after analyzing the active surface many times and the soil is uniform and only the safety factor can be calculated. However, the analysis using the strength reduction analysis method has advantages that the engineer can judge various aspects and calculate the safety factor. In this study, the safety factor according to the change of slope and shear strength was compared and analyzed using limit equilibrium analysis and strength reduction method. It is suggested that it is desirable to use the strength reduction method which can synthetically review the stress, displacement, and strain in the soil.

  • Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) is distinguished from the normal concrete by outstanding compressive and tensile strength. Cracked normal concrete resists shear by aggregate interlocking while clamped by transverse reinforcement, which is called as shear friction theory. Cracked UHPFRC is expected to have a different shear transfer mechanism due to rather smooth crack face and post-cracking behavior under tensile force. Twenty-four push-off specimens with transverse reinforcement are tested for four different fiber volume ratio and three different ratio of reinforcement along the shear plane. The shear friction strength for monolithic concrete are suggested by limit analysis of plasticity and verified by test results. Plastic analysis gives a conservative, but reasonable estimate. The suggested shear friction factor and effectiveness factor of UHPFRC can be applied for interface shear transfer design of high-strength concrete and fiber reinforced concrete with post-cracking tensile strength.

  • JLF-1 steel (Fe-9Cr-2W-V-Ta), low activation ferritic steel, is one of the promising candidate materials fer fusion reactor applications. High temperature fatigue life and tensile strength of JLF-1 steel and its TIG welded joints were investigated at the room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$. The strength of base metal (JLF-1) is in between those of weld metal and the HAZ. When the test temperature was increased from room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$, both strength and ductility decreased for base metal, weld metal and the HAZ. The longitudinal specimens of base metal showed similar strength and ductility compared with those of the transverse specimens at room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$. Little anisotropy was observed in the JLF-1 steel base metal in terms of rolling direction. Fatigue limit of weld metal which was obtained from cross-weld specimen is 495MPa. Thus, the weld metal showed the higher fatigue limit than those of base metal at both room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$. Little anisotropy of fatigue properties was observed for JLF-1 base metal in terms of rolling direction. When the test temperature was increased from room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$, the fatigue limit of both base metal and weld metal decreased substantially.

  • One of the primary concerns about the design aspects is that how to deal with the shear reinforcement in the ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) beam. This study aims to investigate the shear behavior of UHPFRC rectangular cross sectional beams with fiber volume fraction of 1.5 % considering a spacing of shear reinforcement. Shear tests for simply supported UHPFRC beams were performed. Test results showed that the steel fibers substantially improved of the shear resistance of the UHPFRC beams. Also, shear reinforcement had a synergetic effect on enhancement of ductility. Even though the spacing of shear reinforcement exceeds the spacing limit recommended by current design codes (ACI 318-14), shear strength of UHPFRC beam was noticeably greater than current design codes. Therefore, the spacing limit of 0.75d can be allowed for UHPFRC beams.

  • In order to analyze the stretch forming characteristics of tailored blanks, laser welded blanks of different thickness and strength combinations were prepared and stretching tests were done. The stretching formability of laser welded blanks was reduced as increasing the deformation restraining force ($strength{\times}thickness$) ratio between two welded sheets. Weld line movement was attributed to strain concentration at weaker sheets and resulted in fracture at weaker sid, so that fracture could be predicted by the forming limit of the weak sheet. In the case of a welded blank with the similar deformation restraining force rations between two welded sheets, crack occurred at weld and its forming limit was about 15% less than the base sheet. The effects of lubrication and weld line position on stretch-ing formability were also investigated by experiments. Lower friction did not always give better formability for tailored blanks. Stretching formability was observed to be improved as increasing the area of weak sheet.

  • We carried out fatigue testing with materials of aluminum alloyC7075-T6, 2024-T4) by rotary bending fatigue tester. We investigated fatigue limit, fatigue crack initiation, fatigue crack propagation behavior and possibility of fatigue life prediction to the different small circular hole defect. The summarized result are as follows; Fatigue limit of the smooth specimens were related tensile strength and yield strength. In case of more large applied stress and small circular hole crack defect, the fatigue crack was grown rapidly. The fatigue crack propagation behavior proceed at according to inclusion. Fatigue crack propagation ratio appeared instability and retardation phenomenon in the first half of fatigue life but appeared stability and replied in the latter half. On other hand, this experimental data of the materials are appeared fatigue life predictability.

  • This paper proposes J and CTOD estimation schemes applied to fracture toughness testing, covering typical homogeneous and bi-material specimens. Recommendations are based on the plastic limit analysis (either slip line field or finite element limit analyses), assuming the rigid plastic material behavior. The main outcome of the present study is that the J and CTOD estimation schemes (both codified and non-codified), recommended for homogeneous specimens, can be equally used for bi-material specimens with interface cracks. The effect of yield strength mismatch in bi-material specimens on the J-integral CTOD is discussed.
