  • The seismic responses of small-scale spatial frames such as school gymnasiums are usually evaluated using static analysis, although time-history analysis should be carried out to fully incorporate the dynamic responses of the structures against seismic motions. In this study, advanced static analysis procedures arc presented for school gymnasiums that will improve the performance evaluation against seismic motions. The seismic loads are approximated by equivalent static loads corresponding to the two performance levels; i.e., Levels 1 and 2 defined by the Japanese building standard. The importance of utilizing the eigenmode in the load pattern is discussed. Simple static analysis procedures are presented for evaluation of maximum vertical acceleration. It is shown that the static analysis for Level 2 input significantly underestimates the responses by dynamic analysis; however, the inelastic responses for Level 2 are shown to be successfully evaluated using the equivalent linearization that is similar to the $^{\circ}$Dmethod based on calculation of limit strength$^{\circ}{\pm}$ for building frames in Japan.

  • This paper examined the change in reaction time and accuracy of mental work by physical activity. A treadmill-equipped instrument is used to attain several levels of physical activity. Subjects were recruited from college students and football players; and they were instructed to run on a treadmill at different speeds. In order to determine the individual levels of physical activity of subjects, in this paper, Borg's-RPE scales which indicates subjective levels of physical activity were obtained. And reaction time was evaluated before and after running by arithmetic calculation test Restricted within the limit of this experiment, the results of this study showed that arithmetic calculation performance as a scale of accuracy of mental work rather increase after the exercise even though there are slight difference among the subjects.

  • Plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) has attracted attention as a surface treatment which has high wear resistance and corrosion resistance. PEO is generally considered as cost-effective, environmentally friendly and superior in terms of coating performance. Most of studies about the PEO processes have been applied to light metals such as Al and Mg. Because the strength of Al and Mg is weaker than that of steel, there is a limit to the application. In this study, PEO process was used to form oxide coatings on Hot dipped aluminized(HDA) steel and the characteristics of the coating film according to the PEO current density were studied. The morphology was observed by SEM and component was analyzed by using EDS. The corrosion behaviors of PEO coating films were estimated by exposing salt spray test at 5 wt.% NaCl solution and measuring polarization curves in deaerated 3 wt.% NaCl solution. With the increase of PEO process current density, the pore size of the coating surface and the thickness of coating increased. It was confirmed that no Fe component was present on the coating surface. PEO coating films obviously showed good corrosion resistance compared with HDA. It is considered that the PEO coating acts as a barrier to protect the base material from external factors causing corrosion.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate Chloride Attack Resistibility and mechanical properties of quaternary concrete adding fly ash, blast-furnace slag, and silica fume. Compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, chloride migration coefficient, charge passed from Rapid chloride penetration test(RCPT), and immersion testing in 3% NaCl are tested. Chloride migration coefficient and charge passed of quaternary concrete measured $0.032{\times}10^{-12}m^2/sec$ and 650 coulomb at 17 weeks, which are in a permitted limit. Also in immersion test, depth of chloride penetration and maximum chloride ion of quaternary concrete measured 3.7 mm and $10.211kg/m^3$ respectively. From the results, quaternary concrete adding fly ash, blast-furnace slag, and silica fume denotes improvement of mechanical properties and chloride attack resistibility.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of enhancement of protein, limit amino acid, Ca and P on egg Production and egg qualify in laying hens. 720 twenty five week of age (WOA) brown laying hen divided to two diet to seventy WOA. Conventional diet(control) formulated by NRC recommendation, 2,900 ME kcal/kg, 16.0 % crude protein, 0.768 % lysine, 0.332 % methionine, 3.5 % Ca and 0.275 available P. Enhanced diet(ED) formulated by increasing about ten percentage except ME and available P : 2,900 ME kcal/kg, 17.7 % crude protein, 0.845 % lysine, 0.368 % methionine, 3.99 % Ca and 0.275 available P. Overall egg Production were not difference by diets though the hens fed control diet tended to higher egg Production to sixty WOA. Average egg weight was heavier in the ED than control in all period(P<0.05). Daily egg mass increased slightly in the ED, but there were not significantly difference. Average feed intake increased about 3g in the control compared to the ED. Feed conversion ratio significantly improved in the ED(P<0.05). Egg shell breaking strength was stronger in ED by around sixty WOA and showed similar tendency after that. Egg shell thickness was certainly improved in ED. Haugh unit. egg shell color and egg yolk color were not difference by diets.

  • Based on the case study on the causes for the failure of cutting slope composed of weathered rock and soil, the factors influencing the design of a cutting slope have been examined, This type of rock and soil is widely distributed on the region whose parent rock is granite. To analyze the stability of the cutting slope, the following series of progress has been conducted: (1) ground characterization by geological survey and ground investigation, (2) the safety factor examination by limit equilibrium analysis and numerical analysis and (3) the comparison and analysis of rainfall and failure history. As a result, the main factors to cause the failure is determined to be the decrease of shear strength in the upper parts whose ground condition is weakened during localized heavy rain. Moreover, the analysis indicates the failure is also closely related to the groundwater inflow path. On the base of this investigation, a reinforcement method is proposed to ensure the stability of the cutting slope.

  • A fire resistance certification needs to be obtained before fire protection paint can be used in Korea. In the case of paint, the tests for certification are fire, gas hazard and bond strength. According to the hazard test standard of combustion gas, 16 mice are sacrificed every test. Therefore, there are ethical problems for the experimenter and legal problems for the laboratory. Accordingly, many alternatives are being assessed, such as combustion gas analysis, but they have not replaced animal testing yet. With gas hazard testing, the exhaust gas temperature can be measured. The property of the initial reaction of a specific fire paint can be characterized by this temperature. The purpose of this study was to consider the improvement point for a gas hazard test through comparative analysis of the exhaust temperature and the time of death of the mice.

  • Carbon fibre reinforced plastic(CFRP) plate is one of the alternative materials for strengthening of reinforced and prestressed concrete members due to excellent strength and light weight. In this paper, the behavior of slabs strengthened with CFRP plate is observed and analyzed from the test results. Especially specimens with thick plate is tested when large moment and large shear force appear in same position. The failure mode is a peeling-off of the CFRP plate due to flexural-shear crack. This is observed near the loading points with thick plates. Because of this failure mode, thickness of CFRP plates does not influence on the failure loads. Depending on the loading pattern, it is necessary to consider different design criteria for reinforced concrete members with external reinforcement. When large moment and large shear force appear in same location, maximum thickness may limit to 0.6mm and ratio between moment of strengthened slab and moment of unstrengthened slab is proposed 1.5-2.0.

  • The maximum moment may occur at interior supports of continuous bridges. If the bigger moment is applied on them, a local yielding at interior supports may occur. They may show plastic behaviors, and the moment will be redistributed. The strength design, L.F.D., redistributes 10% of the negative moment which is obtained from the elastic analysis. However, A.L.F.D method computes the moment which is redistributed. This moment is called automoment. The moment-rotation curve is needed to find automoment. In this paper moment-rotation curve for compact sections suggested from AASHTO Guide Specifications is used to find automoment. Based on A.L.F.D. limit states specification method, a three-span continuous bridge is designed.

  • Generally, to evaluate a slope stability of the geosynthetic reinforced soil slope, the modified version of limit equilibrium method can be used. In most cases, resisting effects of reinforcement are dealt with considering an increased shear strength on the potential slip surface. However, it is not clear that the methods satisfy all three equilibrium equations. In this study, the new slope stability analysis method in which not only reinforcing effects of geosynthetics can be considered but also all three equilibrium equation can be satisfied is proposed. A number of illustrative examples, including published load test of large-scale reinforced retaining wall and centrifuge model tests on the geotextile reinforced soil slopes, are also analyzed. As a result, it is shown that the newly suggested method produces a relatively accurate factor of safety.
