A existing design method of PSC girder bridges, according to total service loads, stress required tendon force at a time. Because this design method increases beam depth, design of long span is difficult. However, As UC girder stressing at difficult loading stages reduces sectional depth of PSC girder, both design and operation of long span bridges is possible. so, this study analyzes the effect of design parameter (Girder Strength, Girder Spacing, Span Length, Joint Strength) on the beam depth of IPC girder continuous bridges, and shows sectional depth of UC girder for design of long span bridges. According to analysis, when a continuous bridges of same length span is at strength of joint over strength of girder of 600kg/$cm^{2}$, a change of beam depth is observed and when a continuous bridges of different span length is at strength of joint below strength of girder of 600kg/$cm^{2}$, a change of beam depth is observed. In two case, a change of beam depth is mostly observed over strength of girder of 350kg/$cm^{2}$ according to analysis of deflection data, a continuous bridges of IPC girder is nearly satisfied.
A new slab design using secant stiffness, Direct Inelastic Slab Design, was developed. Since basically the proposed design method uses linear analysis, it is convenient and stable in numerical analysis. At the same time, the proposed design method can accurately estimate the inelastic strength and ductility demands of slab because it can analyzes the inelastic behavior of structure using iterative calculations for secant stiffness. In the present study, the procedure of the proposed design method was established, and a computer program incorporating the proposed method was developed. Design examples using the proposed method were presented, and compared with traditional nonlinear analysis, and experiments. The Direct Inelastic Slab Design, as an integrated analysis/design method, can directly address the design strategy intended by the engineer, such as moment strength and ductility limit. As a result, economical and safe design can be achieved.
The aim of this paper is to propose a design procedure for predicting the buckling strength of built-up, cold-formed steel columns based on the two well known methods; the effective width method and the Direct Strength Method. Several design approaches, based on different elastic buckling solutions, were considered in this investigation. Traditional hand methods, without interaction effects between the different modes, and a new numerical spline finite strip method were used to predict the buckling stresses. All of the proposed methods were compared with experimental data on plain and lipped, built-up columns. Results have shown that the effective width approaches are more accurate than the Direct Strength Method. However, both methods can be investigated using more experimental data to assess a practical design method for built-up columns.
In this study, analysis and design programs of bending of RC beams strengthened with fiber sheets are developed by using Visual Basic Language. The program consists two groups, ultimate strength method and nonlinear flexural analysis method. Ultimate strength method regards concrete compressive stress as a rectangular stress block and do not consider tensile stress of concrete and load-deflection curves. On the other hand, nonlinear flexural analysis considers tensile stress of concrete, load-deflection curves, state of stress distribution and failure strain of strengthening material. Also, the analysis method used in this study regards nonlinear flexural stress as compressive stress of concrete. This program can be a good tool for determining the bending strength of strengthened RC beams and estimating the amount of fiber sheets for practical use.
The allowable strength based on experiments and the design allowable strength calculated using the design criteria were compared, which suggested a ratio between the allowable strengths for the reused vertical members of the system scaffolding and system support. By investigating a total of 421 certification reports for reused vertical members, the experimental allowable strengths were collected. Using design criteria such as the road bridge design and KDS 14 30 10, the design allowable strengths were calculated for various slenderness ratios. For the system scaffolding, the average ratio between the experimental and design allowable strengths was calculated to be 0.880 by assuming a normal distribution for all specimens. However, by analyzing the strength ratio according to the slenderness ratio, the lowest average strength ratio was found to be at least 0.844. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that the allowable strength of the reused vertical members was 80-84% of the design allowable strength. In addition, assuming the allowable strength to be 85% of the design allowable strength is a possible method for reused vertical members of system supports.
This study proposed hybrid coupled shear wall in the steel plate insertion method, which is capable of reinforcing the shear strength of the entire wall without increasing wall thickness in the wall-slab apartment buildings. The proposed hybrid coupled shear wall was tested for its effectiveness, shear strength and seismic behavior in experiment. As a test result, the shear strength improvement by the proposed hybrid coupled shear was found effective. Integral-type of steel plate insertion was found more effective than separate-type steel plate insertion. In this case, if the stud enforcement method proposed in this study was used, the shear strength of hybrid coupled shear wall was recommended to calculate using the KBC2016 0709.4.1(3) method. The steel plate inserted in the proposed method was found to have no significant impact on the final fracture behavior and bending strength of hybrid coupled shear wall. The shear strength at the final destruction of the wall was merely about 1/50 of the entire design shear strength. Thus, it is deemed that the wall was over excessively designed regarding the shear force in the existing design method. This finding indicates further study on wall designing to ensure effective and economic designing based on appropriate strength estimation under the destruction mechanism.
This paper presents a simplified method for the design and analysis of non-prestressed, partially prestressed, and fully prestressed concrete beams subjected to pure torsion. The proposed model relates the torsional strength to the concrete compressive strength and to the amounts of transverse and longitudinal reinforcement. To check the adequacy of this simple method, the calculated strength and mode of failure are checked against the experimental results of 17 prestressed concrete 66 reinforced concrete beam tests available in the literature, and very good agreement is found. The simplicity of the method is illustrated by two examples, one for design and another for analysis.
A new earthquake design method performing iterative calculations with secant stiffness was developed. Since basically the proposed design method uses linear analysis, it is convenient and stable in numerical analysis. At the same time, the proposed design method can accurately estimate the inelastic strength and ductility demands of the structural members through iterative calculations. In the present study, the procedure of the proposed design method was established, and a computer program incorporating the proposed method was developed. The proposed method, as an integrated analysis and design method, can directly address the earthquake design strategy intended by the engineer, such as limited ductility of member and the concept of strong column - weak beam. Through iterative calculations on a structural model with member sizes preliminarily assumed, the strength and ductility demands of each member can be determined so as to satisfy the given design strategy. As the result, structural safety and economical design can be achieved.
