  • In this study, as a method to increase the recycling of circulating fluidized bed combustion ash(CFBCA), CFBCA was utilized to produce autoclave aerated concrete product since CFBCA contains quicklime and calcium sulfate components that are required for the manufacture of autoclave aerated concrete. Successful achievement of such objective will bring cost reduction with high value addition, saving of natural resources, and the reduction of environmental load. Various mixing designs were designed to evaluate the properties of autoclave aerated concrete made of CFBCA. Based on series of experimental program, prototypes mix design for factory manufacturing was obtained. According to the experimental results, it was confirmed that gypsum can be replaced with CFBCA through the method of pre-treating the CFBCA as a slurry. It was possible to produce competitive autoclave aerated concrete products using CFBCA.

  • Reliability in tunnel analysis is necessary to accomplish technically sound design and economical construction. For this, a thorough understanding of the construction procedure including the ground-support interaction has to be obtained. This paper describes a proper modelling technique to simulate the behavior of the steel fiber reinforced shotcrete (SFRS) which maintain the supporting capability in post-failure regime. The additional supporting effect of the steel support was also verified by 3-D analyses and a new load distribution factor were proposed. The use of the plastic moment limit (PML) alone can eliminate the occurrence of the awkwardly high tensile stress in the shotcrete and can successfully model the post-peak ductile behavior of the SFRS. But with this method, moment is limited whenever the stress caused by moment reaches tensile strength of the shotcrete irrespective of the stress by axial force. Therefore, it was necessary to find a more comprehensive method which can reflect the influence of the moment and axial force. This can be accomplished by the proper use of "liner element" which is the built-in model in FLAC. In this model, the peak and residual strength as well as the uniaxial compressive strength of the SFRS can be specified. Analyses were conducted with these two models on the 2-lane road tunnels excavated in class IV and V rock mass and results were compared with the conventional elastic beam model. Results showed that both models can reflect the fracture toughness of the SFRS which could not be accomplished by the elastic beam model.

  • Traffic congestion in existing tunnels has increased due to increased traffic volume and enlarged vehicles. Enlarging existing tunnels has advantages over constructing new tunnels by reducing land purchasing costs as well as minimizing natural environment destruction. In fact, many overseas projects for enlarging existing tunnels have been reported. Thus, it appears that the demand on enlarging existing tunnels continues to rise in Korea in near future. Nonetheless, the studies related to the enlarged tunnels have been relatively rare since there have been few tunnel enlargement projects in Korea. In the present study, the tunnel behavior and the stability of rock pillar when enlarging existing parallel tunnels were investigated by performing FE analysis and using existing theory and empirical relationships. Four different enlarging cases, depending on the enlargement types and directions, were examined in the study. According to the results, for the tunnels with the same pillar width after enlarged, the uni-laterally enlarged tunnel indicated 5 to 20% higher crown settlement compared to the bi-laterally enlarged tunnel, and for the tunnel with the narrowest pillar, the highest shotcrete stress was observed. Also, the strength/stress ratio for rock pillar was more than 1.0 for all four enlargement cases, and the Matsuda's method was found to give higher strength/stress ratio by about 50% compared to the Peck's method.

  • Although Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion has limitations in that it is a linear criterion and the effect of the intermediate principal stress on failure is ignored, this criterion has been widely accepted in rock mechanics design. In order to overcome these shortcomings, the Hoek-Brown failure criterion was introduced and recently a number of 3-D failure criteria incorporating the effect of the intermediate principal stress on failure have been proposed. However, in many rock mechanics designs, the possible failure of rock mass is still evaluated based on Mohr-Coulomb criterion and most of practitioners are accustomed to understanding the strength of rock mass in terms of the internal friction angle and cohesion. Therefore, if the equivalent Mohr-Coulomb strength parameters of the advanced failure criteria are calculated, it is possible to take advantage of the advanced failure criteria in the framework of the Mohr-Coulomb criterion. In this study, a method expressing the tangential Mohr-Coulomb strength parameters in terms of the stress invariant is proposed and it is applied to the generalized Hoek-Brown criterion and the HB-WW criterion. In addition, a new approach describing the geometric meaning of the ${\sigma}_2$-dependency of failure criteria in 3-D principal stress space is proposed. Implementation examples of the proposed method show that the influence of the intermediate principal stress on the tangential friction angle and cohesion of the HB-WW criterion is considerable, which is not the case for the 2-D failure criterion.

  • Purpose: Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to play a major role in medical diagnostics. Periodontal disease is one of the most common oral diseases. The early diagnosis of periodontal disease is essential for effective treatment and a favorable prognosis. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of AI in diagnosing periodontal bone loss through radiographic analysis. Materials and Methods: A literature search involving 5 databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Health and Medical Collection, Dentistry and Oral Sciences) was carried out. A specific combination of keywords was used to obtain the articles. The PRISMA guidelines were used to filter eligible articles. The study design, sample size, type of AI software, and the results of each eligible study were analyzed. The CASP diagnostic study checklist was used to evaluate the evidence strength score. Results: Seven articles were eligible for review according to the PRISMA guidelines. Out of the 7 eligible studies, 4 had strong CASP evidence strength scores (7-8/9). The remaining studies had intermediate CASP evidence strength scores (3.5-6.5/9). The highest area under the curve among the reported studies was 94%, the highest F1 score was 91%, and the highest specificity and sensitivity were 98.1% and 94%, respectively. Conclusion: AI-based detection of periodontal bone loss using radiographs is an efficient method. However, more clinical studies need to be conducted before this method is introduced into routine dental practice.

  • Offshore wind power structures are subject to coastal hydrodynamic loading such as wind and wave loads. A considerable number of turbines have been installed in Europe, but so far none in Korea. Interest in offshore wind energy is growing in Korea, and it is expected that projects will reach the design stage in the near future. This paper discusses the level of structural reliability implied by the design rules of ABS(2010, 2013) and IEC(2009). Metocean conditions in 4 Korean seas(Gunsan, HeMOSU 1, Mokpo, Jeju) were used in the calibrations to calculate the aerodynamic and hydrodynamic loads as well as the structural responses of the typical designs of offshore wind turbines. Due to the higher variability of the wind and wave climate in hurricane-prone areas, applying IEC strength design criteria in combination with Korea west sea conditions could result in a design with much lower reliability index than what is anticipated from a design in European waters. To achieve the same level of safety as those in European waters, application of ABS 100 year design standards are recommended. Level-1 reliability-based design suitable for the Korean sea state conditions should be introduced because the IEC standards does not consider the typhoon effects in depth and the ABS standards is a WSD design method. In addition, the design equation should be established based on the statistical characteristics of the wind and wave loads of the Korean sea areas.

  • Recently, design technology of has been required such as catamaran yacht with high-speed according to expand a marine leisure industry. The domestic technical development for design and production of yacht is not actively than Canada, USA, Japan etc. However, with further development of yacht design & technology, it is need to develop a key technology related to increase the value of catamaran yacht. In the present paper, new guideline is suggest for catamaran yacht as like kinds of marine leisure ship in order for fundamental structure design and structural analysis for twin-hulled ship yacht and techniques for structural analysis as sea leisure ship in this research. The class of society has not been proposed formally about regulation and methodology for estimation of strength of small hight-speed craft with satisfying two conditions as noted; length less than 50meters, ratio of length to breadth less than 12. In the present study, we were adopted DNV (Yachts, Design Principles, Design Loads, Hull Structural Design) Rule and KR (FRP rule application guide) for scantling of structural members. Furthermore, ABS rule is used for structural calculation about application of loading conditions for catamaran yacht. This study can be available feedback role to manufacture of 38ft diffusion style for catamaran yacht. It is expected that this study will be a good reference in order to design of catamaran yacht with high-speed.

  • The positioning system based on wireless AP collects AP information distributed in the real world, stores it into database, and measures the position objects by comparing with searched AP information. The existing fingerprinting method is a probabilistic modeling method that acquires much of the data collected from one location upon database composition, and stores the average of the data for the sake of use it in positioning objects. Using the average value, however, may cause the probability of errors Such errors are fatal weaknesses for services based on the accurate position. This paper described the characteristics and problems of the previously used wireless AP positioning system, and proposed a method of using the AP DB and an MSS mechanism for outdoor positioning in order to solve the aforementioned problems. And the results obtained from experimental tests showed that the proposed method achieved very low error rate(27%) compared with the existing method.
