In recent years, there are growing concerns about land mobile satellite (LMS) communication systems and mobile stratospheric communication systems (SCS) for the purpose of service upgrade of personal and mobile communications in near future. It is important to possess accurate channel model for prediction of the above system performance. Thus, in this paper, we evaluate the bit error rates of a coded BPSK system based on realistic channel model which can be applied to stratospheric communication systems. The channel data was made by fitting the parameters of probability distribution model to measured data. This approach was proposed by Corraza〔1〕and modified by You〔2〕. And also the effects of channel codings on the system performance are analyzed. As results, we can get the performance curve characteristics on realistic Rician log-normal fading channels with various communication environments.

The stratospheric drones are developed to perform missions such as weather observation, communication relay, surveillance, and reconnaissance at 18km to 20km, where climate change is minimal and there is no worry about a collision with aircraft. It uses solar panels for daytime flights and energy stored in batteries for night flights, providing many advantages over existing satellites. The electrical and power systems essential for stratospheric drone flight must ensure reliability, efficiency, and lightness by selecting the optimal circuit topology. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the circuit topology of various types of multi-level inverters with high redundancy that can ensure the reliability and efficiency of the motor driving power required for stable long-term flight of stratospheric drones. By quantifying the switch element voltage drop and the number and weight of inverter components for each topology, we evaluate efficiency and lightness and propose the most suitable circuit topology for stratospheric drones.

There have been increased concerns on mobile stratospheric communication system(SCS) for the purpose of advanced service of personal and high speed communication systems. In fact, this SCS is considered and studied for IMT-2000 service by ITU. Although, it is important to make accurate channel model for prediction of the SCS performance, there is no measured channel data in this system. Thus, in this paper, we estimate the performance of SCS bye use of channel model provided by Corazza(2) and modified by You(3). And also, the effects of channel codings on system performance are analyzed by deriving bit error performance based on realistic Rician log-normal fading channel models. The performance results are divided into three kinds of areas with three kinds of elevation angles 20$^\cire$, 45$^\cire$, and 80$^\cire$. And also the effects of forward error correction channel codings on system performance with Hamming(7,4), HCH( IS,7) and convolutional code of constraint length 3 and code rate R=1/2.
Today's communication needs the super high-speed data transmission system to send many data rapidly, correctly, and simultaneously because of the increase of internet use, the demand of multimedia service and so on. Before long, the super high data service will be offered us by a satellite called platform which will be located at stratosphere of 20[km]over earth. It is possible to build the optical wireless communication networks which have the high data-tarrying capacity because this system use a laser. But, there are many problems to overcome because it make use of the atmospheric space as transmission channel. In this paper, therefore, we study up on the relations of data rates, bit error rates, and turbulent effects of atmosphere to present the effects of atmosphere to present the effects of atmospheric turbulence on the optical satcom link.

This paper presents the analytic results of outage probability, considering the effect of Rician fading, interference and interference-reduction techniques, when a mobile communication system was constructed by using Stratospheric platform, one of the next generation wireless communication infrastructure which provides high speed multimedia services. The results show that carrier to interference power ratio C/I and fading depth K have an effect on outage probability. That is, outage probability decreases as K value increases for constant C/I value and C/I value increases for constant K value.

Wireless communication systems using airship have been proposed in worldwide. The airship will be located at the stratosphere about $20{\sim}23\;km$ above the sea level. The position of airship will vary within the station keeping range with time due to the drag of the wind in the stratosphere. When the earth station antenna has a high gain without the tracking function, the antenna performance may be degraded by a small variation of the airship. This means that variation of airship location could result in serious degradation of the system performance. In this paper, degradation in earth station's Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) and Gain to noise Temperature ratio (G/T) due to the stratospheric platform movements has been derived by calculating the deviation angle of the main beam directions between the earth station and the platform antenna. In this case, the antenna of the earth station has been assumed circular and/or patch array antennas.
The researches about the stratospheric communication system are on process in USA, Japan, Europe and etc. The Airship is expected to be fixed at its position in stratosphere but perhaps its position is changed slightly because of wind in stratosphere. If earth station antenna has high gain without tracking function, even though the airship location has a little variation, degradation of antenna gain is occurred because of narrow beamwidth. In this paper, EIRP and G/T variation of the ground system due to the position variation of airship are examined.

This paper describes design and performance test of dual-mode horn antenna for HAPS (High Altitude Platform Station) in 47.2 - 47.5 GHz and 47.9 - 48.2 GHz bands. To obtain the optimal geometry parameters of it. the conical section is represented by a stepped transition composed of a set of cylindrical waveguide sections. For each step. the corresponding generalized scattering matrix is calculated. The elements of the matrices at the open end of the horn, are calculated by the rigorous formulas of the factorization method. To verify the theoretical results, a horn breadboard was manufactured for the medium frequency of 47.7 GHz and its radiation beam patterns were measured. The calculated and theoretical results are in good agreement.
