  • The structural equation modeling techniques were used to assess a model of chemistry learning strategy based on self-handicapping tendency and goal orientation. Data were collected during chemistry lessons in two high schools. In the optimal model II-2 of this research, the self-handicapping tendency was negatively related to the use of self-efficacy. The learning goal was positively related to the use of self-efficacy and to learning strategy. The performance- approach goal was positively related to self-efficacy but presented an negative relationship to learning strategy. The performance-avoidance goal was negatively related to self-efficacy but presented an positive relationship to learning strategy. Besides affecting the learning strategy through self-efficacy indirectly, the learning goal, performance-approach goal, and performance-avoidance goal affected learning strategy directly. The self-handicapping tendency and performance- avoidance goal were a negative predictors of self-efficacy, but the learning goal and performance-approach goal were a positive predictors. And the self-efficacy affected learning strategy positively. The implications of these findings for learning strategy in chemistry are discussed. Although the paths model of relationships of the motivations to learn and learning strategies in chemistry education as mentioned above is established, the more systematic search for the higher self-efficacy and learning strategy in different courses and curriculums may be needed.

Consumer preference on ads media, on-line ads media, and WOM usage were examined for new consumption orientation groups. This study was executed in a question survey format. A total of 182 questionnaires were obtained and data were analyzed by PASW 18.0 and AMOS 7. The results were as follows. First, 8 types of consumption orientation factors were revealed; 'impulsive purchase', 'promotion oriented', 'social contribution', 'passive conformity', 'innovative', 'conspicuous', 'rational', and 'environmental conservation'. Then 4 groups were formed, 'Rational & Positive', 'Conspicuous Conforming', 'Positive Social Interested' and 'Low Price Oriented'. Second, communication responses were analyzed through consumption orientation groups. The 'Rational & Positive' group responded positively to every type of advertising media (especially new media). The 'Conspicuous Conforming' and 'Positive Social Interested' groups preferred traditional media such as TV, radio, and magazines; in addition, the 'Low Price Oriented' group liked only online banner ads. For WOM preference, the 'Rational & Positive' and 'Positive Social Interested' group preferred verbal consumer information like WOM. In distribution types, the just 'Positive Social Interested' group revealed a significant result for internet shopping malls. The results from this study will help establish marketing communication strategies based on the features of consumption orientation.

Data consisted of open-ended survey, semi-structured interview, class observation, field notes from 12 science teachers. We categorized teaching orientation considering both science education goals and science teaching·learning orientation. There were 8 different teaching orientations such as 'understanding science concepts-lecture centered' 'constructing science concepts-inquiry based' 'applying science concepts and inquiry-inquiry based' 'applying science concepts and inquiry-lectured centered' 'analyzing and judging science information-inquiry based' 'developing scientific attitude-inquiry based' 'developing scientific attitude-lecture centered' and 'developing perception of interrelationships among science, technology, and society-inquiry based'. Teachers with inquiry based teaching·learning orientation seemed to have knowledge of science curriculum specific to online learning environment for student inquiry. While teachers with 'understanding science concepts-lecture centered' teaching orientation appeared to have questioning strategy of checking student understanding and strategy of repeating a lecture, teachers with 'constructing science concepts-inquiry based' teaching orientation appeared to have knowledge of instructional strategies to perform online group activities targeting student construction of knowledge and to replace face-to-face group activities with virtual experiments and individual experiments. While teachers with 'understanding science concepts-lecture centered' teaching orientation did not show knowledge of student science learning, teachers with 'constructing science concepts-inquiry based' teaching orientation appeared to have knowledge of student difficulties in inquiry based learning.

  • Apparel goods can be customer-oriented in the extreme and the apparel industry is one of the most customer-centered industries that should maximize customers' satisfaction. Recently, mass customization, a customer-centered system is widely discussed in the apparel industry to provide consumers with new, differentiating, distinctive, yet personalized products. The purpose of this study is to provide useful insights for apparel brands' mass customization(hereafter, MC) implementation by comparing the apparel brands' current status with consumers' expectation. One hundred apparel brands' practitioners and 116 consumers were surveyed in this research. First, we found that, on the basis of the five stages of MC presented by Pine(1993), apparel brands' MC stages were identified. Then, customers' expectation levels were examined according to the five stages. When compared the gap between the customers' expectation level and the apparel brands' implementation, consumers' expectation of MC was significantly higher than the implementation level by apparel brands for the stage 2(customized products creation), the stage 5(modular production). Second, by conducting a factor analysis with the scales measuring the MC activities of the five stages, apparel brands' current MC strategies could be classified as 'mass customized strategy', 'quick response strategy', 'MOT(moment of truth) customized strategy', and 'individualized service strategy.' Apparel brands showed significant differences in mass customized strategy, quickresponse strategy, and MOT customized strategy according to their product characteristics. Finally, consumers' expectation level of MC strategies was significantly different by their characteristics such as shopping orientation.
