  • In this paper, a detailed investigation of the random vibration test is presented for strapdown inertial navigation systems (INS). The effect of the random vibration test has been studied from the point of view of navigation performance. The role of distribution functions and RMS value is represented to determine a feasible method to reject or reduce vibration related error in position and velocity estimation in inertial navigation. According to a survey conducted by the authors, this is the first time that the effect of the distribution function in vibration related error has been investigated in random vibration testing of INS. Recorded data of navigation grade INS is used in offline static navigation to examine the effect of different characteristics of random vibration tests on navigation error.

  • In this paper, we propose a guidance filter to estimate line of sight rate with strapdown seeker measurements and INS(Inertial Navigation System) information. The measurements of proposed guidance filter consisted of the LOS(Line of Sight) and relative position that can be calculated with the seeker's measurements, INS information and known target position, also the filter is based on an asynchronous filter to use outputs of the two sensors that are out of synchronous and period. Through the proposed filter, we can reduce the effect on parasitic loop that can be caused by using large time delay seeker and improve the estimation performance.

  • GPS and INS integrated systems are expected to become commonly available as a result of low cost Micro-Electro-Mechanical Sensor (MEMS) technology. However, the current performance achieved by low cost sensors is still relatively poor due to the large inertial sensor errors. This is particularly prevalent in the urban environment where there are significant periods of restricted sky view. To reduce the inertial sensor error, GPS and low cost INS are integrated using a Loosely Coupled Kalman Filter architecture which is appropriate in most applications where there is good satellite availability. In this paper, we present the GPS/INS sensor Integration using Loosely Coupled Kalman Filter approach. We also compare the simulation results of Wander Azimuth Strapdown Mechanization Scheme with the reference values generated by the ZH35C trajectory simulator that is describe mathematically either by the geometry of the path, or as the position of the object over time.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of a high-speed navigation computer to achieve precision navigation performance with Strapdown INS. The navigation computer inputs are velocity and angular increment data from the ISA at the signal of the 2404Hz interrupt and performs the removal of gyro block motion and the compensation of high dynamic errors at the 200Hz. For high-speed and high-accuracy, the computer consists of the 68040 micro-processor, 128k Memories, FPGAs, and so on. We show that the computer satisfies the required performance by In-Run navigation tests.

  • The Global Positioning System(GPS) and the Strapdown Inertial Navigation System(SDINS) techniques have been widely utilized in many applications. However each system has its own weak point when used in a stand-alone mode. SDINS suffers from fast error accumulation dependent on an operating time while GPS has problem of cycle slips and just provides low update rate. The best solution is to integrate the GPS and SDINS system and its integration allows compensation for each shortcomings. This paper, first, is to define and derive error equations of integrated SDINS/GPS system before it will be applied on a real hardware system with gyro, accelerometer and GPS receiver. Second, the accuracy, availability and performance of this mechanization are verified on the simulation study.

  • This Paper addressed to some aspects of a multirate filtered strapdown INS which is aided by a tracking radar. A new method to determine the sample periods of a multirate filter has been described. The Monte Carlo simulation has been conducted with the optimum sample periods to determine the estimation precision capabilities in a realistic environment. The multirate filtered strapdown navigation system has advantages when the computation time is severely restricted.

  • This paper describes the hardware of analog-to-digital converter to process the rate output of analog servo loop for the gyro rebalance of INS. The analog-to-digital converter is designed by voltage-to-frequency method which is generally used in INS, and this scheme fits well into the strapdown INS that requires the wide dynamic range and linearity. The output of the designed voltage to frequency converter is tested by computer through the counter and all the factors which affect the performance are considered.

  • Inertial Navigation System(INS) can provide the vehicle position and velocity information using inertial sensor outputs without the use of external aids. Unfortunately INS navigation error increases with time due to inertial sensor errors, and therefore it is desirable to combine INS with external aids such as GPS, TACAN, OMEGA, and etc.. In this paper we propose an integration algorithm of commercial GPS/GLONASS and INS where an adaptive filter for signal processing of GPS/GLONASS receiver and the 12th order Kalman filter for aided strapdown INS(SDINS) we employed. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive filter can effectively remove a randomly occurring abrupt jump due to sudden corruption of the received satellite signal and that the Kalman filter performs satisfactorily.

  • GPS attitude outputs or carrier phase observables can be effectively utilized to compensate the attitude error of the strapdown inertial navigation system. However, when the integer ambiguity is not correctly resolved and/or a cycle slip occurs, an erroneous GPS output can be obtained. If the erroneous GPS output is applied to the attitude determination GPS/INS (ADGPS/INS) integrated navigation system, the performance of the system can be degraded. This paper proposes an ADGPS/INS integration system using the triple difference carrier phase observables. The proposed integration system contains a cycle slip detection algorithm, in which the inertial information is combined. Computer simulations and flight test were performed to verify effectiveness of the proposed navigation system. Results show that the proposed system gives an accurate and reliable navigation solution even when the integer ambiguity is not correctly resolved and the cycle slip occurs.
