Video on Demand (VOD) system is definitely one of main applications in upcoming multimedia era. In this research, we have designed and implemented a host-based scalable VOD system (SVOD) which is composed of low cost PC servers and runs on Linux kernel that is currently spotlighted in enterprise and research domains. Our contribution is as follows: first, the previous Ext2 file system was modified to efficiently support continuous media like MPEG stream. Second, the storage server features a host-based scalable architecture. Third, a software MPEG decoder was implemented using Microsoft's DirectShow$\circledR$COM. Finally, flow control between client and server is provided to suppress overflow and underflow of client circular buffer and supports FF VCR operation. We have known that it is possible to develop a thread-based and scalable VOD system on low cost PC servers and free Linux kernel.

Digital evidence which is the new form of evidence to crime makes little difference in value and function with existing evidences. As time goes on, digital evidence will be the important part of the collection and the admissibility of evidence. Usually a digital forensic investigator has to spend a lot of time in order to find clues related to the investigation among the huge amount of data extracted from one or more potential containers of evidence such as computer systems, storage media and devices. Therefore, these evidences need to be ranked and prioritized based on the importance of potential relevant evidence to decrease the investigate time. In this paper we propose a methodology which prioritizes order in which evidences are to be examined in order to help in selecting the right evidence for investigation. The proposed scheme is based on Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Decision Making, in which uncertain parameters such as evidence investigation duration, value of evidence and relation between evidence, and relation between the case and time are used in the decision process using the aggregation function in fuzzy set theory.
A $CaCO_3$-alginate beads system was developed for high cell density cultivation of Bifidobacterium longum and the cost-effective media were also screened. In batch process with $CaCO_3$, beads, two strains of B. longum showed both the highest viable cells and optical density in TPY medium, resulting in maximum optical density and viable cell counts of 12.40, $2.22{\times}10^10$ cfu/ml for B. longum ATCC 15707 and 13.71, $3.93{\times}10^10$ cfu/ml for B. longum HLC 3742. Released size distribution, according to $CaCO_3$-alginate bead size preparation, was smaller than others. These results were also examined by observing their morphology. The skim milk-based medium was most adequate to cultivate B. longum as the cheapest medium, and $10\%$ skim milk supplemented with $2\%$ glucose and $1\%$ yeast extract was a suitable medium, supporting the growth to $5.57{\times}10^10$ cfu/ml for ATCC 15707 and $6.82{\times}10^9$ cfu/ml for HLC 3742. During the long-term storage at $4^{\circ}C\;and\;-20{\circ}C$, B. longum cultivated with $CaCO_3$ beads had the highest stability. Consequently, $CaCO_3$-alginate beads buffer was found to be useful not only to cultivate B. longum but also to preserve cultures.
This study analyzed Kimchi eating culture in 178 households with female middle school children located in Incheon and Seosan areas, investigated the Kimchi eating patterns of female middle school students, and also analyzed the differences in value recognition for Kimchi between mothers and their female middle school students. Results showed that 23.0% of subject households answered eat Kimchi at every meal and the main reason for eating Kimchi in most households was good for taste. Most households made their own Kimchi, and only 12.3% of households bought Kimchi. Subject households preferred hot and spicy taste (34.8%) and pleasing taste (20.2%), and 44.4% of middle school children answered as eating Kimchi at every meal, and the source for information on Kimchi was home in 51.6% and mass media in 33.7%, suggesting the lack of school education. Both mothers and their female middle school students placed high value on Kimchi for its nutritional aspect and on Kimchi from the market for its convenience. Mothers showed significantly higher value (p<0.05) on the storage aspect of Kimchi compared to their middle school students, and female middle school students showed significantly higher value (p<0.05) on the value recognition for Kimchi as an international food compared to their mothers. Also, the value for hot pepper powder was high among other additional ingredients, and both mothers and middle school students had high values for Kimchi stew among other food dishes using Kimchi, and middle school students showed higher values (p<0.001) on foreign dishes using Kimchi such as Kimchi pizza and Kimchi spaghetti compared to the mothers group. Therefore, based on these results, the development of educational programs on Kimchi is needed not only at home but also at schools, by re-emphasizing the importance of value recognition for Klmchi in our food culture.

The ultimate aim of this study is to improve the quality of the document delivery service and meet the users' requests in the changeable information circumstance.
Since carbon dioxide, $CO_2$, was revealed as a major greenhouse gas, techniques for its separation, capture, and storage have received increasing interest in recent years. Aqueous amines are the most widely accepted $CO_2$ absorbents, but they cause the problems such as high regeneration energy, thermal degradation, and loss of absorbents due to their volatility. Ionic liquids having high thermal stability, extremely low vapor pressure, and capability of selectively absorbing specific gases have been proposed as new $CO_2$ capturing solvents which may potentially replace aqueous amines. By reviewing the ionic liquids having capability to absorb $CO_2$ reported in previous papers, we seek to develop a comprehensive understanding on the factors that influence the $CO_2$ solubility in ionic liquids such as their structures, absorption temperature, pressure, water content, etc., and to estimate the potential of ionic liquids as $CO_2$ separating media.

The International Organization for Standardization(ISO) has undertaken an effort to develop a standard for video and associated audio on digital storage media. This effort is known by the name of the expert group that started if : MPEG-Moving Picture Experts Group Is currently part of the ISO-I EC/J TC1/SC2/WG11. The promise of MPEG-2 is that a video signal and its associated audio can be compressed to a bit rate of about 10 Mbits/s with an acceptable quality. In this paper, the implementation of a video compression simulator based on MPEG-2 Video Test Model 2(TM2) is described and analyzed according to the simulation results. The implemented simulator is also applied to code HDTV sequences at the several bit rates. Some computer simulation results using the MPEG and the HDTV test sequences are given. In addition, some techniques which can improve the coding efficiency of the implemented video compression simulator are also suggested.

In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm for non-streaming synchronized data processing based on ATSC-DASE in terrestrial digital data broadcasting services. Non-streaming synchronized data is encapsulated in DSM-CC sections with PTS(presentation time stamp) values associated with A/V and it is transmitted in a form of MPEG-2 TS(transport stream). At the receiver, the transmitted A/V data are processed by PC based set-top box(STB) in real-time, and the transmitted non-streaming synchronized data is also stored at the STB and is displayed at right time by the proposed algorithm. To verity the proper operation of the proposed algorithm, we make a scenario for non-streaming synchronized data by XML, and finally we are able to display it properly by using declarative application(DA) browser.
In order to utilize NAND flash memory as storage media which does not allow update-in-place and limits the number of block erase count, various garbage collection policies supporting wear-leveling have been investigated. Conventional garbage collection policies require cleaning-index calculation for the entire blocks to choose a block to be garbage-collected to support wear-leveling whenever a garbage collection is required, which results in performance degradation of system. This paper proposes a garbage collection policy which supports wear-leveling using a threshold value, which is in fact a variance of erase counts and by the maximum erase count of all blocks, without calculating the cleaning-index. During garbage collection, the erase cost is minimized by using the Greedy Policy if the variance is less than the threshold value. It achieves wear-leveling by excluding the block with the largest erase count from erase target blocks if the variance is larger than threshold value. The proposed scheme shows that a standard deviation approaches to zero as the erase count of blocks approaches to its upper limit and the measured speed of garbage collection is two times faster than the conventional schemes.
From several sites of petroleum storage basement in South Coasts in Korea, various petroleum degrading bacteria have been isolated and characterized as Pseudomonas fluorescens, Acinetobacter baumanii, Pseudomonas maltophila and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, respectively. They show the ability of petroleum degradation on minimal media which contains petroleum as sole carbon source and loose the ability at high concentration of NaCl as increasing the concentration of NaCl from 0.5% to 6%. It has been confirmed that such bacteria have utilized the simple saturate hydrocarbon; n-decane, n-hexane, n-octane and n-decane because petroleum consists of various kinds of organic compounds. It has been also identified that petroleum degrading bacteria habor the plasmid and show the antibiotic resistance against ampicillin, tetracycline and chloramphenicol. These results strongly suggest that the petroleum degrading gene and antibiotic resistance gene might be located on the high molecular weight plasmid.
