System Design Using Discrete Event Simulation (이산사건 시뮬레이션을 사용한 시스템의 설계)

  • In this paper we use discrete simulation method to get the criteria of system evaluation required in the case of designing the complicated probabilistic event system having discrete probabilistic variables and to search the effective and reliable alternatives to satisfy the objective value of the given system through on-line, single run within the short time period. If we find the alternative we construct the algorithm which change values of decision variables and determining alternative by using the stopping algorithm which end the simulation in the steady state of system. In order to prevent the loss of data when we analyze the acquired design alternative in the steady state we provide the background of the estimation of the autoregressive model and mean and confidence interval for evaluating correctly the objective function obtained by the small amount of output data through the short time period simulation.

  • The OFDM with LS signal detection performs worse in fast time varying channels as the channel matrix has higher chance of becoming ill-conditioned. Various regularization methods are applied to avoid performance degradation in LS signal detection. In this paper, we proposed a CGLS method with the stopping criteria imposed by the characteristics of the modulation method, which shows performance comparable to that of the optimal LMMSE.

Fast Determination of Minimum Spanning Tree Based on Down-sizing Technique of Edges Population (간선 모집단 규모축소 기법을 적용한 빠른 최소신장트리 결정)

  • This paper suggests a method of lessening number of a graph's edges population in order to rapidly obtain the minimum spanning tree. The present minimum spanning tree algorithm works on all the edges of the graph. However, the suggested algorithm reduces the edges population size by means of applying a method of deleting maximum weight edges in advance from vertices with more than 2 valencies. Next, it applies a stopping criterion which ideally terminates Borůvka, Prim, Kruskal and Reverse-Delete algorithms for reduced edges population. On applying the suggested algorithm to 9 graphs, it was able to minimize averagely 83% of the edges that do not become MST. In addition, comparing to the original graph, edges are turned out to be lessened 38% by Borůvka, 37% by Prim, 39% by Kruskal and 73% by Reverse-Delete algorithm, and thereby the minimum spanning tree is obtained promptly.

Recognition of Superimposed Patterns with Selective Attention based on SVM (SVM기반의 선택적 주의집중을 이용한 중첩 패턴 인식)

  • We propose a recognition system for superimposed patterns based on selective attention model and SVM which produces better performance than artificial neural network. The proposed selective attention model includes attention layer prior to SVM which affects SVM's input parameters. It also behaves as selective filter. The philosophy behind selective attention model is to find the stopping criteria to stop training and also defines the confidence measure of the selective attention's outcome. Support vector represents the other surrounding sample vectors. The support vector closest to the initial input vector in consideration is chosen. Minimal euclidean distance between the modified input vector based on selective attention and the chosen support vector defines the stopping criteria. It is difficult to define the confidence measure of selective attention if we apply common selective attention model, A new way of doffing the confidence measure can be set under the constraint that each modified input pixel does not cross over the boundary of original input pixel, thus the range of applicable information get increased. This method uses the following information; the Euclidean distance between an input pattern and modified pattern, the output of SVM, the support vector output of hidden neuron that is the closest to the initial input pattern. For the recognition experiment, 45 different combinations of USPS digit data are used. Better recognition performance is seen when selective attention is applied along with SVM than SVM only. Also, the proposed selective attention shows better performance than common selective attention.

ON THE LINEARIZATION OF DEFECT-CORRECTION METHOD FOR THE STEADY NAVIER-STOKES EQUATIONS

  • Based on finite element discretization, two linearization approaches to the defect-correction method for the steady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are discussed and investigated. By applying $m$ times of Newton and Picard iterations to solve an artificial viscosity stabilized nonlinear Navier-Stokes problem, respectively, and then correcting the solution by solving a linear problem, two linearized defect-correction algorithms are proposed and analyzed. Error estimates with respect to the mesh size $h$, the kinematic viscosity ${\nu}$, the stability factor ${\alpha}$ and the number of nonlinear iterations $m$ for the discrete solution are derived for the linearized one-step defect-correction algorithms. Efficient stopping criteria for the nonlinear iterations are derived. The influence of the linearizations on the accuracy of the approximate solutions are also investigated. Finally, numerical experiments on a problem with known analytical solution, the lid-driven cavity flow, and the flow over a backward-facing step are performed to verify the theoretical results and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed defect-correction algorithms.

Decision Variable Design of Discrete Systems using Simulation Optimization (시뮬레이션 최적화를 이용한 이산형 시스템의 결정변수 설계)

  • The research trend of the simulation optimization has been focused on exploring continuous decision variables. Yet, the research in discrete decision variable area has not been fully studied. A new research trend for optimizing discrete decision variables ha just appeared recently. This study, therefore, deals with a discrete simulation method to get the system evaluation criteria required for designing a complex probabilistic discrete event system and to search the effective and reliable alternatives to satisfy the objective values of the given system through a on-line, single run with the short time period. Finding the alternative, we construct an algorithm which changes values of decision variables and a design alternative by using the stopping algorithm which ends the simulation in a steady state of system. To avoid the loss of data while analyzing the acquired design alternative in the steady state, we provide background for estimation of an auto-regressive model and mean and confidence interval for evaluating correctly the objective function obtained by small amount of output data through simulation with the short time period. In numerical experiment we applied the proposed algorithm to (s, S) inventory system problem with varying Δt value. In case of the (s, S) inventory system, we obtained good design alternative when Δt value is larger than 100.

Mechanism of stopping crack propagation in continuous fiber reinforced selfhealing ceramic

  • The self-healing fiber-reinforced composite (abbreviation: shFRC) was made by adding SiC, a self-healing material, between an Al2O3 matrix and an Al2O3 continuous fiber. shFRC has the characteristic of healing the reduced strength by self-healing. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the damage and healing of new composite material, shFRC, and define new failure criteria. The test method used in this study was a high temperature creep test. The interface fracture behavior with time was investigated by analyzing the creep rate. The creep test conditions were 137 MPa and 150 MPa at 1,000 ℃, and 68.5 MPa, 100 MPa, and 137 MPa at 1,200 ℃, respectively. As a result, the crack propagation of 1,000 ℃ was stopped by healing, and the creep rate was zero. The crack healing part was higher than the strength before the crack formation. Due to the rapid hardening of the interface and the decrease in strength of the fiber, delayed fracture behavior was not observed at 1,200 ℃. If the crack is stopped by self-healing at a constant load, shFRC can use that load stress as the allowable stress. However, when the reaction rate of the interface is markedly rapid, crack propagation is difficult to control.

Probabilistic Analysis of Blasting Loads and Blast-Induced Rock Mass Responses in Tunnel Excavation (터널발파로 인한 굴착선주변 암반거동의 확률론적 연구)

  • The generated blasting pressure wave initiated under decoupled-charge condition is a function of peak blasting pressure, rise time, and wave-shape function. The peak blasting pressure and the rise time are also the function of explosive and rock properties. The probabilistic distributions of explosive and rock properties are derived from the results of their property tests. Since the probabilistic distributions of explosive and rock properties displayed a normal distribution, the peak blasting pressure and the rise time can also be regarded as a normal distribution. Parameter analysis and uncertainty analysis were performed to identify the most influential parameter that affects the peak blasting pressure and the rise time. Even though the explosive properties were found to be the most influential parameters on the peak blasting pressure and the rise time from the parameter analyses, the result of uncertainty analysis showed that rock properties constituted major uncertainties in estimating the peak blasting pressure and the rise time rather than explosive properties. Damage and overbreak of the remaining rock around the excavation line induced by blasting were evaluated by dynamic numerical analysis. A user-subroutine to estimate the rock damage was coded based on the continuum damage mechanics. This subroutine was linked to a commercial program called 'ABAQUS/Explicit'. The results of dynamic numerical analysis showed that the rock damages generated by the initiation of stopping hole were larger than those from the initiation of contour hole. Several methods to minimize those damages were proposed such as relocation of stopping hole, detailed subdivision of rock classification, and so on. It was found that fracture probability criteria and fractured zones could be distinctively identified by applying fuzzy-random probability.

A Study on the Safety Policies of Truck Traffic Using Fuzzy-AHP (Fuzzy-AHP를 이용한 화물자동차의 교통안전 대책에 관한 연구)

  • With the increase of truck traffic, roads are becoming more congested and the risk of accidents is also increasing. Since the fatality rate of traffic accidents caused by trucks is about 2 to 3 times higher than that of passenger cars and buses, it is urgent to prepare policies for truck traffic safety. While most of the previous studies focused on factor analysis that contributes to traffic accidents, this study presented traffic safety policies (4 major-criteria and 12 sub-criteria) for trucks through driver interviews and previous studies. Then, the priority of the policies was evaluated by using Fuzzy-AHP. As a result, the improvement of truck drivers' working environment was evaluated as the most important criteria, and followed by the improvement of road traffic conditions. In detail, there is an urgent need to improve the freight car fare system, ensure sufficient rest for drivers, and strengthen the crackdown of illegal parking and stopping along roads. This study is expected to be usefully utilized in preparing traffic flow safety policies in preparation for the continuous increase of truck traffic.

Development and Evaluation of Traffic Conflict Criteria at an intersection (교차로 교통상충기준 개발 및 평가에 관한 연구)

  • For many rears, traffic accident statistics are the most direct measure of safety for a signalized intersection. However it takes more than 2 or 3 yearn to collect certain accident data for adequate sample sizes. And the accident data itself is unreliable because of the difference between accident data recorded and accident that is actually occurred. Therefore, it is rather difficult to evaluate safety for a intersection by using accident data. For these reasons, traffic conflict technique(TCT) was developed as a buick and accurate counter-measure of safety for a intersection. However, the collected conflict data is not always reliable because there is absence of clear criteria for conflict. This study developed objective and accurate conflict criteria, which is shown below based on traffic engineering theory. Frist, the rear-end conflict is regarded, when the following vehicle takes evasive maneuver against the first vehicle within a certain distance, according to car-following theory. Second, lane-change conflict is regarded when the following vehicle takes evasive maneuver against first vehicle which is changing its lane within the minimum stopping distance of the following vehicle. Third, cross and opposing-left turn conflicts are regarded when the vehicle which receives green sign takes evasive maneuver against the vehicle which lost its right-of-way crossing a intersection. As a result of correlation analysis between conflict and accident, it is verified that the suggested conflict criteria in this study ave applicable. And it is proven that estimating safety evaluation for a intersection with conflict data is possible, according to the regression analysis preformed between accident and conflict, EPDO accident and conflict. Adopting the conflict criteria suggested in this study would be both quick and accurate method for diagnosing safety and operational deficiencies and for evaluation improvements at intersections. Further research is required to refine the suggested conflict criteria to extend its application. In addition, it is necessary to develope other types of conflict criteria, not included in this study, in later study.
