In this study, in the first place, parameters primarily influencing displacement and stress were constructed by using the Finite Difference Method; then using those parameters, the result of crown displacement and convergence among the existing, experimental values of a centrifuge model were compared with the result of numerical analysis; and then considering the stress and time effect of lining installation, parameters according to the difference of stiffness were studied. In the result of this study, it found out that rough, ground reinforcement effect manifests itself when reinforcement propert of the grouting of the big scale steel pipe through 3-D analysis is E= 4,000tf/m2 which of the stiffness of the original ground.
Pullout tests are usually employed to determine the ultimate bearing capacity of reinforced soil, and the load-displacement curve can be obtained easily. This paper presents an analytical solution for predicting the full-range mechanical behavior of a buried planar reinforcement subjected to pullout based on a bi-linear bond-slip model. The full-range behavior consists of three consecutive stages: elastic stage, elastic-plastic stage and debonding stage. For each stage, closed-form solutions for the load-displacement relationship, the interfacial slip distribution, the interfacial shear stress distribution and the axial stress distribution along the planar reinforcement were derived. The ultimate load and the effective bond length were also obtained. Then the analytical model was calibrated and validated against three pullout experimental tests. The predicted load-displacement curves as well as the internal displacement distribution are in closed agreement with test results. Moreover, a parametric study on the effect of anchorage length, reinforcement axial stiffness, interfacial shear stiffness and interfacial shear strength is also presented, providing insights into the pullout behaviour of planar reinforcements of MSE structures.

An analytical finite element approach to nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete shear walls with opening under monotonic loading was presented in this paper. In order to achieve the objectives of present paper, the orthogonal anisotropic models for cracked reinforced concrete element based on smeared crack concept were used as the nonlinear material models of biaxial state of stress. The stiffness of cracked concrete was evaluated through the combined use of tension and compression stiffness models in and parallel directions of crack, respectively and shear transfer effect due to the aggregate interlocking at crack surface. The stress and strain of reinforcement in concrete was evaluated using the average stress and average strain relation with bond effect. based on smeared crack concept. The diagonal reinforcing bar was modeled using truss element with bond effect. A special significance of diagonal reinforcement near opening was given to the shear wall with opening and an effective distribution of diagonal reinforcement was presented in order to give an ultimate strength increment as well as a crack control.

Devastating RC structural failures in the past have identified that the behavior of beam-column joints is more critical and significantly governs the global structural response under seismic loading. The congestion of reinforcement at the beam-column joints with other constructional difficulties has escalated the attention required for strengthening RC beam-column joints. In this context, numerous studies have been carried out in the past, which mainly focused on jacketing the joints with different materials. However, there is no comparative study of different approaches used to strengthen RC beam-column joints, from efficiency and cost perspective. This paper presents a detailed investigation carried out to study the various strengthening schemes of exterior RC beam-column joints, viz., steel fiber reinforcement, carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) strengthening, steel haunch strengthening, and confining joint reinforcement. The effectiveness of each scheme was evaluated experimentally. These specimens were tested under horizontal loading that produced opening moments on the joints and their behavior was studied with emphasis on strength, displacement ductility, stiffness, and failure mechanism. Special attention was given to the study of crack-width.
Ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) can be used in the UHPC-steel composite structures especially for bridge structures to achieve high stiffness and high fatigue resistance with low self-weight. The structural performances of UHPC-steel composite slabs subjected to hogging moment have a significant influence on the global stiffness and durability of UHPC-steel composite structures. In order to study the structural behaviors of non-steam-cured UHPC-steel composite slabs subjected to negative moment, five composite slabs combined the thin UHPC layers to steel plates via shear stud connecters with the diameter of 16mm were fabricated and tested under negative moment. The test program aimed to investigate the effect of stud spacing and longitudinal reinforcement ratios on the failure mode, load-deflection behaviors, cracking patterns, bond-slips, and carrying capacities of composite slabs subjected to negative moment. In addition, direct tensile tests for the dog-bone UHPC specimens with longitudinal reinforcement bars were carried out to study the effect of reinforcement bars on the tensile strength of UHPC in the thin structure members. Based on the experimental results, analytical models were also developed to predict the cracking load and ultimate load of UHPC-steel composite slabs subjected to negative moment.
Since electric connectors such as power connectors have a small assembly tolerance and have a complex shape, the assembly process is performed manually by workers. Especially, it is difficult to overcome the assembly error, and the assembly takes a long time due to the error correction process, which makes it difficult to automate the assembly task. To deal with this problem, a reinforcement learning-based assembly strategy using contact states was proposed to quickly perform the assembly process in an unstructured environment. This method learns to generate a search trajectory to quickly find a hole based on the contact state obtained from the force/torque data. It can also learn the stiffness needed to avoid excessive contact forces during assembly. To verify this proposed method, power connector assembly process was performed 200 times, and it was shown to have an assembly success rate of 100% in a translation error within ±4 mm and a rotation error within ±3.5°. Furthermore, it was verified that the assembly time was about 2.3 sec, including the search time of about 1 sec, which is faster than the previous methods.
The vertical reinforcement connection between the precast reinforced concrete shear wall and the cast-in-place reinforced concrete member is vital to the performance of shear walls under seismic loading. This paper investigated the structural behavior of three precast reinforced concrete shear walls, with different levels of connection (i.e., full connection, partial connection, and no connection), subjected to quasi-static lateral loading. The specimens were subjected to a constant vertical load, resulting in an axial load ratio of 0.4. The crack pattern, failure modes, load-displacement relationships, ductility, and energy dissipation characteristics are presented and discussed. The resultant seismic performances of the three tested specimens were compared in terms of skeleton curve, load-bearing capacity, stiffness, ductility, energy dissipation capacity, and viscous damping. The seismic performance of the partially connected shear wall was found to be comparable to that of the fully connected shear wall, exhibiting 1.7% and 3.5% higher yield and peak load capacities, 9.2% higher deformability, and similar variation in stiffness, energy dissipation capacity and viscous damping at increasing load levels. In comparison, the seismic performance of the non-connected shear wall was inferior, exhibiting 12.8% and 16.4% lower loads at the yield and peak load stages, 3.6% lower deformability, and significantly lower energy dissipation capacity at lower displacement and lower viscous damping.
The cut slope sliding which has been frequently encountered in Pohang area has been reported due to the rapid reduction of shear strength in mudstone after being exposed to the air. Mudstone has characteristics that it has high enough strength and stiffness in a dry condition, but the strength and stiffness decrease in a wet condition with groundwater infiltration. The case study in this paper shows that mudstone which had enough strength in a boring stage has lost the strength after installing PRD steel pipe pile inducing an insufficient bearing capacity, which has been ascertained by the static load test. Test construction has been performed to investigate the most favorable method for increasing a pile bearing capacity in mudstone with various methods such as MSG (Micro Silica Grouting) around the tip and side of a pile, the perimeter grouting combined with Micro pile reinforcement, and concrete filling after tip reinforcing grouting. From the test construction, MSG has been turned out to be the most favorable method for increasing a pile bearing capacity in mudstone, which has been confirmed by the static load test.

The automotive industry faces many competitive challenges including weight and cost reduction to meet need for higher fuel economy. Tailored blanks offer the opportunity to decrease door weight, reduce manufacturing costs, and improve door stiffness. Optimization technology is applied to the inner panel of a door which is made by tailored blanks. The design of tailored blanks door starts from an existing door. At first, the hinge reinforcement and inner reinforcement are removed to use tailored blanks technology. The number of parts and the welding lines are determined from intuitions and the structural analysis results of the existing door. Size optimization is carried out to find thickness while the stiffness constraints are satisfied. The door hinge system is optimized using design of experiment approach. A commercial optimization software MSC/NASTRAN is utilized for the structural analysis and the optimization processes.
