  • The scanning electron microscope (SEM) offers two-dimensional (2D) micrographs of three-dimensional (3D) objects due to its inherent operating mechanisms. To overcome this limitation, other devices have been used for quantitative morphological analysis. Many efforts have been made on the applications of software-based approaches to 3D reconstruction and measurements by SEM. Based on the acquisition of two stereo images, a multi-view technique consists of two parts: (i) geometric calibration and (ii) image matching. Quantitative morphological parameters such as height and depth could be nondestructively measured by SEM combined with special software programs. It is also possible to obtain conventional surface parameters such as roughness and volume of biomedical specimens through 3D SEM surface reconstruction. There is growing evidence that conventional 2D SEM without special electron detectors can be transformed to 3D SEM for quantitative measurements in biomedical research.

  • This research features efficient detection of obstacles, especially vehicles, in the forward direction of navigation for the development of unmanned automous vehicle. We separate image regions into ground and non-ground planes using the Helmholtz shearing technique in order to reliably exclude regions that do not contain obstacles. We propose a computationally simple and efficient method for the detection of vehicles in the forward direction by analysis of horizontally and vertically projected histograms of residual disparity map obtained from Helmholtz shearing. We have experimented the proposed method on real outdoor stereo data. Experimental results show that our method gives accurate detection of forward vehicles and is computationally very efficient.

  • These days, the coaxial rotor system is used for various purposes like UAVs, Mars exploration helicopters, and the next-generation high-speed rotorcraft. A number of research projects on aerodynamic performance of rotor systems, including the coaxial configuration have been made previously. On the contrary, research on rotor blade deformation has been mainly carried out regarding the single rotor system, where such effort has not been enough on the coaxial system. Nonetheless, in case of the coaxial system, blade deformation analysis is much more important because of the complex air flow around the rotors, and that the distance between the two rotors is a key factor affects aerodynamic performance of the entire system. For these reasons, an experimental study on rotor blade deformation of the coaxial system was conducted using the Stereo Pattern Recognition(SPR) technique, one of the state-of-the-art of photogrammetry method. In this research, a small-scale coaxial rotor test stand designed by Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI) was used. With the same test stand, performance of the coaxial configuration had been studied before the experimental study on blade deformation, in order to find the relation between performance and blade deformation of the rotor system. Results of the performance test and the deformation study are presented in this article.

  • Immersive virtual reality has been used in areas of oil and gas exploration for visualization and analysis of various spatial data, such as wireline logs, 3-dimensional seismic data volume, formational boundaries, fault, and some other reservoir characteristics. Although virtual reality is a valuable tool in this area, in most cases, it requires a large budget. This paper describes the construction of a single screen, passive stereo, virtual reality, display system based on commodity, or otherwise, low-cost components. The core elements of the system are a PC with a two-channel 3-D graphics, two projects, and a polarized stereo. There are many options available for the major elements of such a system, and the basic system can be modified or adapted to many different styles of use.

  • Sport photographing by the Stereo-Camera generally used in Europ, Japan, etc was applied to the traffic-accident analysis more preferreatially than the measuring with Tape where some problems are found in its accuracy and duribility. Time for photographing and that for measuring a datum point were compared causes for accidents were analyzed by spot drawing PAMS, with a patameter of an exclusively used drawing set, after 3-dimensions were first measured and computed in Stereo-model. Also the collision-angle, the direction of the handle and the quartity of loss after a clash were computed by using a accident vehicle as a model those data was suggested as a way of potential practical the accidents at large.

  • In a different way of satellite image or aerial photo, the image acquired by terrestrial photogrammetry has to go through complicated management according to the desired precision and analysis range. In this study, digital surface model and ortho image for cultural asset, terrestrial structures, were made by reflectorless total station in order to increase the application of single photo, and that was analyzed and compared with the method using stereo image. Single photo is expected to be utilized as the measuring method for drawing cultural assets or examining the stability of slope in which high precision doesn't need by performing the various geometric and visual analysis using ortho image made by excluding the difficulties of acquisition and plotting of stereo image.

  • PURPOSES : This study attempts to design and establish the road surface condition detection system by using the image processing that is expected to help implement the low-cost and high-efficiency road information detection system by examining technology trends in the field of road surface condition information detection and related case studies. METHODS : Adapted visual information collecting method(setting a stereo camera outside of the vehicle) and visual information algorithm(transform a Wavelet Transform, using the K-means clustering) Experiments and Analysis on Real-road, just as four states(Dry, Wet, Snow, Ice). RESULTS : Test results showed that detection rate of 95% or more was found under the wet road surface, and the detection rate of 85% or more in snowy road surface. However, the low detection rate of 30% was found under the icy road surface. CONCLUSIONS : As a method to improve the detection rate of the mobile road surface condition information detection system developed in this study, more accurate phase analysis in the image processing process was needed. If periodic synchronization through automatic settings of the camera according to weather or ambient light was not made at the time of image acquisition, a significant change in the values of polarization coefficients occurs.

  • This paper presents a new method for upmixing mono signal to stereo signal with guaranteeing high stereophonic image quality (SIQ) and large apparent source width (ASW). The proposed method consists of analysis phase and synthesis phase. In analysis phase, a mono signal is first decomposed into multiple sound sources by the use of high-rank nonnegative matrix factorization. Then the multiple sources are clustered into two groups based on tonality criterion. In synthesis phase, one group is directly fed into left and right channels while the other group is decorrelated before being fed into each channel. Subjective tests reveals that the proposed method gives listener high SIQ and large ASW with minimizing timbral distortions.

  • This study presents a technique for assessing the dimensional quality of assembly parts in Prefabricated Steel Structures (PSS) using a stereo vision sensor. The stereo vision system captures images and point cloud data of the assembly area, followed by applying image processing algorithms such as fuzzy-based edge detection and Hough transform-based circular bolt hole detection to identify bolt hole locations. The 3D center positions of each bolt hole are determined by correlating 3D real-world position information from depth images with the extracted bolt hole positions. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is then employed to calculate coordinate axes for precise measurement of distances between bolt holes, even when the sensor and structure orientations differ. Bolt holes are sorted based on their 2D positions, and the distances between sorted bolt holes are calculated to assess the assembly part's dimensional quality. Comparison with actual drawing data confirms measurement accuracy with an absolute error of 1mm and a relative error within 4% based on median criteria.
