  • A field spectroradiometer SE-590 was used to measure the spectral reflectance of water body. The reflectance was calculated as the ratio of surface water radiance to the standard whiteboard radiance nearly measured at the same time. Water samples were taken simultaneously for determining their chlorophyll-a, suspended solid (SS) and transparency. The relationships between those water quality parameters and spectral reflectance were analy zed using stepwise multiple regression to derive optimal prediction models . The multiple regression was also applied to the SE-590 simulated SPOT bands. The SPOT image of the same day was also analyzed using the same method to compare the statistical results. It showed that the multiple regression models using the SE-590 reflectance data got the best water quality prediction results. The evaluated RMS error of chlorophyll-a, SS and transparency of water quality parameters were 0.57 ug/l, 0.2 mg/l and 0.17 m, respectively, and the RMS errors were 0.36 ug/l, 0.49 mg/l and 0.42 m for SPOT data, respectively. The SE-590 simulated SPOT three bands data obtained the worst results and the RMS errors were 1.77 ug/l, 0.49 mg/l and 0.37 m, respectively.

  • A quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) study was performed for the prediction of the absorption maxima of azobenzene dyes. The entire set of 191 azobenzenes was divided into a training set of 150 azobenzenes and a test set of 41 azobenzenes according to Kennard and Stones algorithm. A seven-descriptor model, with squared correlation coefficient ($R^2$) of 0.8755 and standard error of estimation (s) of 14.476, was developed by applying stepwise multiple linear regression (MLR) analysis on the training set. The reliability of the proposed model was further illustrated using various evaluation techniques: leave-many-out crossvalidation procedure, randomization tests, and validation through the test set.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate determining factors which influence the riboflavin and pyridoxin nutritional status of korean newborns. The riboflavin and pyridoxine nutriture were evaluated by measuring the enzymecoenzyme saturation kinetics of erythrocyte glutathione reductase and alanine aminotransferase. The subjects were 259 newborns and their mothers. The average activity coefficent values of the cord blood EALAT was 1.4$\pm$0.11 and 32% of the samples had EALATAC values greater than 1.25. EGRAC was 1.26$\pm$0.12 and 27.4 of the blood samples had EALATAC values greater than 1.25. Vitamine B6 nutrition of the newborns whose mothers consumed more energy, protein and vitamine B6 was better as cord blood EALATAC values were found to the lower in this group. A stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that birth length and mother's age significantly influenced EGRAC values, positive and negative ways, respectively.

  • Purpose: This study was designed to explore the relationship of depression with stress, anxiety and mindfulness in nursing students in 2010. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used and data was collected through structured questionnaires. Depression, stress, anxiety, and mindfulness were measured by using the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS) and the Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS). The data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: A total of 131 nursing students participated in this study. Depression was positively associated with stress (r=.81, p<.001) and anxiety (r=.76, p<.001), and negatively associated with mindfulness (r=-.73, p<.001). Multiple regression analyses showed that in different type of residence, anxiety and mindfulness were statistically significant predictors of depression with explanatory power of 67%. Conclusion: When nurse instructors manage depression among nursing students, the strategies need to address stress, anxiety, and mindfulness. This study may help nursing students to better manage their depression.

  • This article is concerned with an effective algorithm for the identification of multiple outliers in linear regression. It proposes a hybrid algorithm which employs the least median of squares estimator, instead of the least squares estimator, to construct an Initial clean subset in the stepwise forward search scheme. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with the existing competitor via an extensive Monte Carlo simulation. The algorithm appears to be superior to the competitor for the most of scenarios explored in the simulation study. Particularly it copes with the masking problem quite well. In addition, the orthogonal decomposition and Its updating techniques are considered to improve the computational efficiency and numerical stability of the algorithm.
