A stepping motor is widely used to operate the elevation and azimuth stage of the X-band antenna with 2-axis gimbal system for effective image data transmission from a satellite to a ground station. However, such stepping motor also generates an undesirable micro-vibration which is one of the main disturbance sources affecting image quality of the high-resolution observation satellite. In order to improve the image quality, the micro-vibration isolation of the X-band antenna system is essential. In this study, the low rotational stiffness isolator has been proposed to reduce the micro-vibration disturbance induced by elevation direction operation of the X-band antenna. In addition, its structural safety was confirmed by the structure analysis based on the derived torque budget. The effectiveness of the design was also verified through the micro-vibration measurement test.

To minimize the damage by wild birds and acquire the benefits such as protection against weeds and maintenance of water content in soil, the mulching black color vinyl after seeding should be carried out. Non-contact and non-destructive methods that can continuously determine the locations are necessary. In this study, a crop position detection method was studied that uses infrared thermal image sensor to determine the cotyledon position under vinyl mulch. The moving system for acquiring image arrays has been developed for continuously detecting crop locations under plastic mulching on the field. A sliding mechanical device was developed to move the sensor, which were arranged in the form of a linear array, perpendicular to the array using a micro-controller integrated with a stepping motor. The experiments were conducted while moving 4.00 cm/s speed of the IR sensor by the rotational speed of the stepping motor based on a digital pulse width modulation signal from the micro-controller. The acquired images were calibrated with the spatial image correlation. The collected data were processed using moving averaging on interpolation to determine the frame where the variance was the smallest in resolution units of 1.02 cm. Non-linear integral interpolation was one of method for analyzing the frequency using the normalization image and then arbitrarily increasing the limited data value of $16{\times}4pixels$ in one frame. It was a method to relatively reduce the size of overlapping pixels by arbitrarily increasing the limited data value. The splitted frames into 0.1 units instead of 1 pixel can propose more than 10 times more accurate and original method than the existing correction method. The non-integral calibration method was conducted by applying the subdivision method to the pixels to find the optimal correction resolution based on the first reversed frequency. In order to find a correct resolution, the expected location of the first crop was indicated on near pixel 4 in the inversion frequency. For the most optimized resolution, the pixel was divided by 0.4 pixel instead of one pixel to find out where the lowest frequency exists.

A feasibility study of thrust control of hybrid propulsion system for lunar exploration is presented. The thrust control experiments were performed by controlling the oxidizer mass flow rate where the thrust modulation is carried by using a ball valve and a stepping motor. The gaseous oxygen (GOX) and the HDPE (High Density PolyEthylene) were used for the oxidizer and solid fuel, respectively. It was found that the thrust levels were stable without much fluctuation during the modulation period, and that the thrust was exactly controlled with target thrust modulation ratio of 53% and 32%.

We constructed a high-$T_c$ scanning SQUID microscope (SSM) operating in the liquid nitrogen. We used a washer-type YBCO SQUID with inner and outer dimensions of $12{\mu}m$ and $36{\mu}m$, respectively, which was grown on the $SrTiO^3$ bicrystal substrate. The sample, rather than SQUID, was scanned using two stepping motors. We also developed readout electronics, stepping motor controller, and the software for system control and data display. We took images of various samples using our SSM and found that the spatial resolution is about $40{\mu}m$ and noise level is lower than $10^{-7}T/{\surd}Hz$ at 100 Hz and higher at lower frequencies. The noise level was much higher than that of a typical SQUID due to the other coupling from the electric parts. We present a simple argument on the inductive coupling between the sample and the SQUID which should be under-stood for the proper interpretation of the obtained images. By comparing the measured data with the simulation results the gap between the SQUID and the sample is estimated to be $40{\mu}m$.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a task-specific obstacle crossing rehabilitation program on functional gait ability in patients with cerebellar ataxia. Overall, we sought to provide ataxia-specific locomotor rehabilitation guidelines for use in clinical practice based on quantitative evidence using relevant analysis of gait kinematics including valid clinical tests. Methods: Patients with cerebellar disease (n=13) participated in obstacle crossing training focusing on maintenance of dynamic balance and posture, stable transferring of body weight, and production of coordinated limb movements for 8 weeks, 2 times per week, 90 minutes per session. Throughout the training of body weight transfer, the instructions emphasized conscious perception and control of the center of body stability, trunk and limb alignment, and stepping kinematics during the practice of each walking phase. Results: According to the results, compared with pre-training data, foot clearance, pre-&post-obstacle distance, delay time, and total obstacle crossing time were increased after intervention. In addition, body COM measures indicated that body sway and movement variability, therefore posture stability during obstacle crossing, showed improvement after training. Based on these results, body sway was reduced and stepping pattern became more consistent during obstacle crossing gait after participation in patients with cerebellar ataxia. Conclusion: Findings of this study suggest that task-relevant obstacle crossing training may have a beneficial effect on recovery of functional gait ability in patients with cerebellar disease.

X-band antenna has been widely used to effectively transmit the high resolution image data from the observation satellite to the ground station. To achieve above mission, X-band antenna is mainly composed of the 2-axis gimbal system using stepping motors and gears. However, the micro-vibration induced by the stepping motor actuation and the imperfect gear teeth alignment during this on-orbit operation is the main source of image quality degradation. In this paper, X-band antenna combined with a blade gear for micro-vibration isolation was suggested and investigated. The structural safety of the blade gear with low rotational stiffness was confirmed by structure analysis based on the derived torque budget. The isolation performance of the X-band antenna with the blade gear was verified through micro-vibration measurement test using the dedicated micro-vibration measurement device proposed in this study.
This paper presents a wide-range speed control scheme of brushless DC (BLDC) motors based on a hall sensor with separated low- and normal-speed controllers. However, the use of the hall sensor signal is insufficient to detect motor speed in the low-speed region because of low sensor resolution and time delay. In the proposed method, a micro-stepping current control method according to the torque angle variation is presented. In this mode, the motor current frequency and rotating angle are determined by the reference speed without the actual speed fed by the hall sensor. The detected torque angle is used to adjust the current value in a limited band to control the current value in accordance with the load. The torque angle is detected exactly at the changing point of the hall sensor signal. The rotor can follow the rotating flux with the variable torque angle. In a normal speed range, the conventional vector control scheme is used to control the motor current with a PI speed controller using the hall sensor. The torque characteristics are analyzed on the basis of the back EMF and current shape. To adopt the vector control scheme, the continuous rotor position is estimated by the measured speed and hall sensor position. At the mode changing point between low and normal speed range, the proper initial current command and reference rotor position are calculated. The calculated current command can reduce the torque ripple during transient mode. The proposed method is simple but effective in extending the speed control range of a conventional BLDC motor with hall sensor without the need for a high-resolution encoder. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by various experiments on a practical BLDC motor.
The 42V Mild Hybrid System has been released into market by Toyota for the first time in the world in 2001. The set-up employs an inverter unit to control the motor/generator (MG) electronically. The driving system called such as Toyota Mild Hybrid System (TMHS) has additional new functions to conventional internal combustion engines. When stopping vehicle, the engine stops promptly. When starting vehicle, by releasing the brake pedal MG starts the vehicle at the same time (EV-driving mode). When stepping on the accelerator pedal, or after a given period of time the engine firing occurs and the engine-driving mode starts. When running by motor, the power is supplied to the motor from 36V battery through the inverter. High outputs and instant responses are required for Inverter. At the same time, the compact volume is required to fit into the limited space of the engine room. The compact size and high output are also required to Power Capacitor used for this inverter. The power capacitors has been newly developed, shaped in "flat" type, suitably for the inverter. The points of developments on inverter and power capacitor are described in this paper.his paper.
The cogging torque and torque ripple in motor which cause noise and vibration are an inevitable phenomenon and they give a bad effect to motor performance. So we are required to reduce the cogging torque and torque ripple not by electrical controlling but by changing the inner mechanical structure and we focused on the permanent magnet. In this research, we calculated current, torque, Back-EMF(electromotive force) and cogging torque according to the change of the magnet shape using two dimensional FEM(Finite Element Method). Maxwell stress tensor and time-stepping method. From the results, we present an appropriate model that can satisfy both low cogging torque, low torque ripple and high efficiency.

Objectives: Existing cardiovascular simulators are used to evaluate artificial organs such as artificial hearts, prosthetic valves, and artificial blood vessels, and pulses are typically triggered using artificial hearts. However, the forms of pulse waves vary according to the location of arteries, and for precise assessment of artificial blood vessels, the development of simulators that generate diverse pressure pulse waves is necessary. This study developed a novel cardiovascular simulator that generates different forms of pulse waves. Methods: This simulator consists of a stepping motor, a slider-crank mechanism that transforms the rotation movement of a motor into the straight-line motion of a piston, a piston that generates pulsatile flows, a water tank that supplies fluids, an elastic tube made of silicon, and a device that adjusts the terminal resistance of fluids. Results & Conclusion: This study examined motor rotation and its operation under conditions similar to the physiological conditions of the heart. The simulator developed in this study produced diverse forms of waves, and the generated pressure waves well satisfied physiological conditions.
