  • In this study, we designed and implemented a step detection analyzer that can compare and analyze the step detection rates and results among the step detection algorithms. The step detection analyzer converts 3-axes accelerometer data into continuous energy stream through SVM operation, shows the horizontal comparison among the step detection results for each step detection algorithms, and can make elemental detection analyses. For these processes, the step detection analyzer presents the continuous energy stream as energy waveform, checks the peak values and time location of the detected steps with step detection algorithms, and gives visual interface to get some possible causes in cases of step detection miss. It can also give the threshold graph for each algorithm to check the threshold value on missed cases directly and can help to get more appropriate threshold values or other adjustable parameters in step detection algorithm. This step detection analyzer can be applied efficiently on performance enhancement of step detection algorithm, on deciding an appropriate algorithm for a specific step counter system in the various step counter filed operations.

  • In a power system, an out-of-step condition causes a variety of risk such as serious damage to system elements, tripping of loads and generators, mal-operation of relays, etc. Therefore, it is very important to detect the out-of- step condition and take a proper measure. This paper presents a study on implementation of out-of-step detection algorithm using VHDL(Very high speed Hardware Description Language). The structure of out-of-step detection algorithm is analyzed for development of out-of-step detection relay on the FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array). The out-of-step algorithm is separated to 4 parts: DFT IP, complex power calculation IP, out-of-step detection IP, control unit. Each parts are developed and simulated by using VHDL.

Several out-of-step detection methods have been employed in relays until now. Most common method used for an out-of-step detection is based on the transition time through the blocking impedance area in R-X diagram. Also, the R-R dot out-of-step relay, the out-of-step prediction method and the adaptive out-of-step relay using the equal area criterion (EAC) and Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology have been developed. This paper presents the out-of-step detection algorithm using the time variation of the complex power. The complex power is calculated and the mechanical power of the generator is estimated by using the electrical power, and then the out-of-step detection algorithm which is based on the complex power and the estimated mechanical power, is presented. This algorithm may detect the instant when the generator angle passes the Unstable Equilibrium Point (UEP). The proposed out-of-step algorithm is verified and tested by using Alternative Transient Program/Electromagnetic Transient Program (ATP/EMTP) MODELS.

  • The protection against transient instability and consequent out-of-step condition is a major concern for the utility industry. Unstable system may cause serious damage to system elements such as generators and transmission lines. Therefore, out-of-step detection is essential to operate a system safely. The detection of out-of-step is generally based upon the rate of movement of the apparent impedance. However such relay monitors only the apparent impedance which may not be sufficient to correctly detect all forms of out-of-step and cannot cope with out-of-step for a more complex type of instability such as very fast power swing. This paper presents the out-of-step detection algorithm using voltage frequency deviation. The digital filters based on discrete Fourier transforms (DFT) to calculate the frequency of a sinusoid voltage are used, and the generator angle is estimated using the deviation of the calculated frequency component of the voltage. The proposed out-of-step algorithm is based on the assessment of a transient stability using equal area criterion. The proposed out-of-step algorithm is verified and tested by using EMTP MODELS.

  • A defect in an image is a set of pixels forming an irregular shape. Since a defect, in most cases, is not easy to be modeled mathematically, the defect detection problem still resides in a research area. If a given image, however, composed by certain patterns, a defect can be detected by the fact that a non-defect area should be explained by another patch in terms of a rotation, translation, and noise. In this paper, therefore, the defect detection method for a repeated multi-patterned image is proposed. The proposed defect detection method is composed of three steps. First step is the interest point detection step, second step is the selection step of a appropriate patch size, and the last step is the decision step. The proposed method is illustrated using SEM images of semiconductor wafer samples.

  • In this paper, a new fault detection method for the extended Kalman filter, which uses a N-step predictor, is proposed. The N-step predictor performs the only time propagations for N-step intervals without measurement updates and its output is used as a monitoring signal for the fault detection. A consistency between the extended Kalman filter and the N-step predictor is tested to detect a fault. A test statistic is defined by the difference between the extended Kalman filter and the N-step predictor. The proposed method is applied to strapdown inertial navigation system (SDINS). By computer simulation, it is shown that the proposed method detects a fault effectively.

  • We proposed a fast detection of copy-move image forgery using four step search algorithm in the spatial domain. In the four-step search algorithm, the search area is 21 (-10 ~ +10), and the number of pixels to be scanned is 33. Our algorithm reduced computational complexity more than conventional copy move image forgery methods. The proposed method reduced 92.34 % of computational complexity compare to exhaustive search algorithm.

  • Object recognition is to identify the location and class of a specific object by analyzing the given image when a specific image is input. One of the fields in which object recognition technology is actively applied in recent years is autonomous vehicles, and this paper describes the trend of image-based object recognition artificial intelligence technology in autonomous vehicles. The image-based object detection algorithm has recently been narrowed down to two methods (a single-step detection method and a two-step detection method), and we will analyze and organize them around this. The advantages and disadvantages of the two detection methods are analyzed and presented, and the YOLO/SSD algorithm belonging to the single-step detection method and the R-CNN/Faster R-CNN algorithm belonging to the two-step detection method are analyzed and described. This will allow the algorithms suitable for each object recognition application required for autonomous driving to be selectively selected and R&D.

  • The protection against transient instability and consequent out-of-step condition is a major concern for the utility industry. Unstable system may cause serious damage to system elements such as generators and transmission lines. Therefore, out-of-step detection is essential to operate a system safely. Also, a multi-agent system is one that consists of a number of agents, which interact with one another. Multi-agent systems(MAS) can offer the flexibility and the adaptability to the previous algorithm. In this paper, the detection algorithm of out-of-step is designed by multi-agent system and implemented by EMTP-MODELS. To verify performance of the proposed algorithm based on multi-agent system, simulations by EMTP have been carried out.
