  • Fatigue behavior of shear joints between combined reinforced concrete(RC) and reinforced steel fiber concrete(RSFC) specimens has been experimentally investigated. Experimental parameters used are the amount of steel fiber and the type of shear joint. 6 specimens have been tested under static load, and 8 specimens have been subjected to the fatigue load in a range of 50% and 5 % of the ultimate static load. The purpose of this research is to propose an empirical formula for fatigue shear behavior of combined RC and RSFC structures on the basic of experimental result. It can be observed from experimental result that addition of steel fibers to concrete specimen increases the static ultimate load by approximately 25%, enhances the fatigue behavior, and also reduces vertical and lateral displacements at the shear joint for a given load cycle after the occurrence of first crack.

  • The effect of post weld heat treatment (P.W.H.T) on the propagation rate of stress corrosion cracking(S.C.C) and threshold stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}.c.c$) for stress corrosion cracking of 304 stainless steel has been investigated in boiling 45% $MgCl_2$ solutions with W.O.L specimens. Specimens were precracked by turning a pair of Cr-Mo steel bolts into a machined slot at the end of the specimen. The fracture surface was examined fractographically by Scanning Electron Microscope(S.E.M.)

  • In this study, it was investigated the distribution of residual stress in the direction of loading between the root and toe the load fillet welds for thick steel plate. Residual stress distributions are measured by sectioning method which is one of stress-relaxation technique in welded joint, and analyzed by two dimensional finite element method on thermo-elasto-plastic theory under plane stress condition. These are compared the results of F.E.M analysis with the experimental result by stress-relaxation techniques. As a results, the following conclusion were obtained. (1) In the no penetration fillet welded joint specimen using mild steel plate with 25mm in thickness, the residual stress of loading direction near the root was about $10kg/mm^2$ tensile. (2) The tensile residual stress has been observed in fillet region of the fillet joint by F.E.M. analysis method. (3) The range of compressive residual stress distribution from the root was largest in the case of 5mm root penetration.

  • Reinforced concrete have defect in durability due to carbonation, freezing and thawing, and penetration of chloride ions with time in spite of superb structure. Especially steel corrosion in concrete due to penetration of chloride ions have result in a marked decline in service life. The principal purpose in this study is to see effect of sacrificial anode cathodic system, one of the electrochemical methods in order to the control of steel corrosion in concrete. There are chloride content in concrete in cracked and no cracked specimen with cathodic protection. To recognize the effect of sacrificial anode cathodic protection, Instant-off potential are measured. We have the excellent effect for control steel corrosion adaption sacrificial anode cathodic system.

  • It is necessary to evaluate the fatigue behavior of rail steel under the multi-axial stress state to assure the railway vehicle's safety. For this purpose, the stress analysis to investigate the crack initiation criteria, static failure and fatigue behavior under mixed-mode are performed. The stress analysis results show that the initiation of the transverse fissure depends on the maximum shear stress below the surface. For the mixed mode, the fatigue crack growth behavior which is represented by the projection crack length and comparative S.I.F, ${\Delta}K_v$, shows the more conservative results. Also, its rate is lower than that of the case of the mode I, and this difference decreases with increasing the stress ratio, R.

  • The effect of grain size on the tensile properties and fatigue behavior of austenitic high Mn steel has been investigated. The recrystallized austenite grain size of the cold rolled high Mn steel was increased as the annealing temperature increased from $600^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$. Larger austenite grain size decreased the yield strength and the tensile strength, and increased the uniform elongation due to transformation of some austenite into twins or E-martensite phase during deformation. Austenite grain refinement increased the tendency to form dislocation cells, instead. The specimen annealed at $1000^{\circ}C$ with large grain size showed lower fatigue crack propagation rate in low ${\Delta}K$ region due to rougher fracture surface caused by formation of deformation twins during fatigue at the crack tip region.

  • The effect of initial orientation on the microstructure and texture evolution of two ferritic stainless steels was investigated. the columnar and equiaxed crystal specimens which were prepared from continuous casting slab were hot rolled annealed cold rolled and annealed respectively. The rolling and recrystallization textures at each process stage were examined by orientation distribution function (ODF) and electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD); The observation showed that the orientation density of the $\alpha$-fibre of hot rolled band of columnar crystal specimen was more pronounced than that of the equaxed one at the center layer. Nevertheless the cold rolled textures of Type 430 steel have demonstrated a rather similar development . Compared to Type 430 steel the development of the $\alpha$-fibre in the center layer of Type 409L steel was much more pronounced. The relation between texture evolution and ridging behaviour has been discussed.

  • Recently the shortage of good aggregate has encouraged the use of sea sand in construction field, and the corrosion damage of the reinforced steel in concrete structures has been increased due to chlorides from sea sand and deicing salt. Therefore, a number of researchs are proceeding to prevent the corrosion of the reinforced steel in concrete, especially in marine environments. This study focused on the effect of corrosion inhibitors to evaluate protection characteristics for mortar specimens containing clorides. Corrosion behaviors have been investigated by half-cell potential measurement, linear polarization method, AC impedance method, and cyclic polarization test after immersing in sea water for 7 years. A possitive effect of a corrosion inhibitor has been obtained.

  • The long span PSC deck of composite girder bridge should be needed in order to improve the endurance and to simplify the structure of the steel bridge. However, there have been few domestic research activities about long-span PSC decks for the steel bridges with a small number of girders. In this study, a literature survey is performed to develop a new deck system for the steel bridge with a small number of girders. By considering the characteristics of a small number of girders bridge system, a cast-in-place long span PSC deck is proposed for a small number of girders bridges. To examine structural behavior and safety of the proposed PSC deck, the real scale partial models of the deck(12m$\times$3.2m) are tested under the static loading. In the test, the failure mode and behavior of each specimen, and ultimate load carrying capacity of the proposed PSC deck are identified.
