In this study, a torsional test for U-type steel box girders was performed to observe the effects of the kind of panel for top lateral walateral bracings on the torsional behavior of the U-type steel girder system. For the structural tests, the test specimen with a two-thirds scale of the system actually constructed in the field was used. In the torsional test to observe the efects of top lateral bracings, the most economical arrangement of the top lateral bracing was found to be the panel width to length ratio of 1:1.5 with the inclined angle of $40^{\circ}$.
An attractive combination of corrosion resistance and mechanical properties in the temperature range -50 to $250^{\circ}C$ is offered by duplex stainless steel. However, undesirable secondary precipitation phase such as $\sigma$, $\gamma_2$ and $Cr_2N$ may taken place at the cooling stage from the welding processes. Therefore, this paper describes the influence of different welding procedures such as manual metal arc welding (MMA), tungsten inert gas welding (TIG) and vacuum brazing on corrosion resistance of the welded joint for UNS S31803 duplex stainless steel. Microstructure and chemical compositions of the welded joint were examined. The weight loss of specimens immersed in 6% $FeCl_3$ solution at $47.5^{\circ}C$ for 24-hours was determined and used to evaluate the pitting resistance of duplex stainless steel and their welds. The region of heat-affected zone of specimen obtained by the MMA is much wider than that resulted from TIG, therefore, the weight loss of welds by MMA was larger than that of weld by TIG. The weight loss of brazed specimens cooled from slow cooling rate was larger than those of specimens cooled from high cooling rate, because the precipitation of $\sigma$ phase. Beside that, the weight loss of brazed specimen is greater than those of the welded specimens. The galvanic corrosion was observed in brazed duplex stainless steel joints in the chloride solution.
The demands of high-strength steel have been steadily increased to reduce the weight of vehicles. Although the TRIP steel has been the promising candidate material for the purpose, high strength hinders the application due to the susceptibility to hydrogen delayed fracture in the corrosive environment. Moreover, the testing method was not specified in the ISO standards. In this work, the test method to evaluate the susceptibility of hydrogen delayed fracture was studied by slow strain rate testing technique. The four test experimental parameters were studied : strain rate, hydrogen charging time, holding time after hydrogen charging, and holding time after cadmium plating. The steel was fractured by hydrogen in case the strain rate was in the range of $1{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}5{\times}10^{-7}/sec$. It was confirmed that the slow strain rate test is effective method to evaluate the susceptibility to hydrogen delayed fracture. The holding time over 24 hrs after hydrogen charging, nullified the hydrogen effect, that is, the specimen was no more susceptible to hydrogen after 24 hrs even though the specimen was fully hydrogen-charged. Moreover, cadmium electroplating could not prevent from diffusing out the hydrogen from the steel in the experiment. The effective experimental procedures were discussed.
This study describes a hydrogen embrittlement evaluation of the subsurface zone in 590DP steel by micro-Vickers hardness measurement. The 590DP steel was designed to use in high-strength thin steel sheets as automotive materials. The test specimens were fabricated to 5 series varying the chemical composition through the process of casting and rolling. Electrochemical hydrogen charging was conducted on each specimen with varying current densities and charging times. The relationship between the embrittlement and hydrogen charging conditions was established by investigating the metallography. The micro-Vickers hardness was measured to evaluate the hydrogen embrittlement of the subsurface zone in addition to the microscopic investigation. The micro-Vickers hardness increased with the charging time at the surface. However, the changing ratio and maximum variation of hardness with depth were nearly the same value for each test specimen under the current density of 150 mA/$cm^2$ and charging time of 50 hours. Consequently, it appears that hydrogen embrittlement in 590DP steel can be evaluated by micro-Vickers hardness measurement.

Unlike general carbon steel, stainless steel's mechanical properties change depending on the content of chromium and nickel. In this study, since stainless steel for high-temperature pressure container parts is used as shafts, the fatigue strength and fatigue limit of the materials were evaluated using a rotational bending fatigue test. Meanwhile, fatigue analysis was conducted under the same conditions as the specimen for structural analysis and fatigue analysis of stainless steel for high-temperature pressure container parts. Using the fatigue analysis results, we tried to derive the life of the material and the safety factor for each part. As a result of performing a fatigue test by processing a specimen for the fatigue test of A182 F6A stainless steel, the fatigue limit was 548 MPa. The ratio between the tensile strength and fatigue limit of the material was 0.545, representing 54.5% of the tensile strength.
Using natural frequency measurement method, which is one of NDT method, natural frequency of the hot-rolled mild steel plate(specimen) under fatigue loading was measured. Between the degradation of the specimen under fatigue loading and the variation of the natural frequency of the specimen was investigated. As a result, the degradation of the specimen was described and monitored as variation of natural frequency of specimen. The natural frequency of specimen decreased gradually under fatigue loading. This means the variation of material properties of specimen. Especially. It means the variation of Young's modulus of specimen.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the structural capacity of steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connectors by pull-out test. Compressive strength testing of concrete was conducted and yield forces, tensile strengths and elongation ratios of re-bars and hollow steel plate were investigated. A 2,000kN capacity UTM was used for the pull-out test with 0.01mm/sec velocity by displacement control method. Strain gauges were installed at the center of re-bars and hollow steel plates and LVDTs were also installed to measure the relative displacement between the loading plate and in-filled concrete pile specimens. The yield forces of the steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connectors were increased 1.44-fold and 1.53-fold compared to that of a control specimen, respectively. Limited state forces of steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connectors were increased 1.23-fold and 1.29-fold compared to that of a control specimen, respectively. Yield state displacement and limited state displacement of steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connector were decreased 0.61-fold and 0.42-fold compared to that of a control specimen, respectively.

The effective mixture of structural laminated timber and other materials is expected to extend the potentials of building structures because of the potentials to realize high performance in structural safety. The classical joint types using drift pin and bolts are occurred local failures due to the small bearing area. In result, new joints using H shaped steel were suggested in this research. The objective of this study is to evaluate elasto-plastic behaviors by strengthening types of wood frames with new joints connecting structural laminated timber with H shaped steel. A total of five specimens of about one-second scale were tested. Specimens had columns with 1,050 height and $84mm{\times}100mm$ section, and a beams with 1,950mm length and $130mm{\times}100mm$ section. Also, the specimens were stiffened by brace, hwang-toh brick, and autoclaved lightweight concrete. The results of the test showed that the specimen stiffened with autoclaved lightweight concrete was characterized by fairly good strength and stiffness than those of the other specimens. Initial stiffness of H-2.0D-NS specimen with 2 times inserting length of beam height showed 1.33 times than that of H-1.5D-NS specimen. However, the strength of H-2.0D-NS specimen has not improved too much than H-1.5D-NS specimen.
For the purpose of investigating the effect of sintering atmosphere and carbon addition on sintered density and microstructural characteristics, the M3/2 grade high speed steel powders with the addition of carbon are sintered in vacuum and $20%H_2/79%N_2/l%CH_4$ gas atmosphere. With the addition of 0 wt%C, 0.45wt%C and 1.15 wt%C the optimum sintering temperatures decrease down to $1260^{\circ}C$, $1210^{\circ}C$ and $1150^{\circ}C$ respectively for the vacuum sintered specimen, and also decrease down to $1130^{\circ}C$, $1120^{\circ}C$ and $1115^{\circ}C$ for the gas sintered specimen. The threshold temperatures for full densification decrease steeply with increasing carbon content of the sintered specimen, while this temperatures are slowly decreased at high carbon content. The vacuum sintered specimen shows the primary carbides of MC and $M_6C$ type at the optimum sintering temperature, and eutectic carbides of $M_2C$ and Fe-Cr type are produced in the oversintered specimen. The gas sintered specimen exhibits M6C and Fe-Cr type primary carbides at the optimum sintering temperature. The eutectic carbides of $M_6C$ and Fe-Cr type and MX type carbonitride are shown for the oversintered specimen in the gas atmosphere. The hardness of gas sintered specimen shows high value of 830-860 Hv due to the increment of carbide precipitation.
This paper was studied on microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion characteristics of 316L stainless steel pipe welds was fabricated by orbital welding process. S-Ar specimen was fabricated by using Ar purge gas and S-$N_2$ specimen was fabricated by using $N_2$ purge gas. Ferrite was not detected in weld metal of S-$N_2$ specimen but the order of 0.13 Ferrite number(FN) was detected in weld metal of S-Ar specimen. Oxygen and Nitrogen concentration of S-$N_2$ specimen was higher than S-Ar specimen on HAZ and inner bead. The welds microstructural characteristics of S-Ar and S-$N_2$ specimens are similar. The microvickers hardness values of S-Ar and S-$N_2$ specimens welds were similar and average values of each regions were in the range of 174~194. The microstructures of S-Ar and S-$N_2$ weld metal were full austenite by primary austenite solidification. The Solidification structures of S-Ar and S-$N_2$ weld metal were formed directional dendrite toward bead center. The potentiodynamic polarization curve of STS 316L pipe welds exhibited typical active, passive, transpassive behaviour. Corrosion current density$(I_{corr.})$ and corrosion rate values of S-Ar specimen in 0.1M HCl solution were $0.95{\mu}A/cm^2$ and $0.31{\mu}A$/year respectively. The values of S-$N_2$ specimen were $1.4{\mu}A/cm^2$ and $0.45{\mu}m$/year.
