  • Four types of experiments were performed to check the similitude of member behavior between prototype and 1/10 scale models:(1) Test of slender columns with P- effect, (2)Test of short columns with and without confinement steel, (3)Test of simple beams without stirrups, and (4)T-beam test. Based on the results of experiments, the conclusions were made as follows : (1) The P- effect of slender columns can be almost exactly represented by 1/10 acale model. (2)The effect of confinement on short columns by the hoop steel can also roughly simulated by 1/10 scale model. (3)The failure modes of simple beams models were the yielding of tension steel followed by large diagonal tension cracking+compressive concrete failure. (4)The behaviors of prototype and 1/10 scale model in T-beams appear very similar.

  • The dependence of the corrosion potential on the stress corrosion cracking of 304 austenitic stainless steel was inspected by using the specimen of constant displacement type under the environment of 42% $MgCl_2$ boiled solution. The relationship of the corrosion potential to the intermittent propagation behaviour in stress corrosion cracking was cleared. As the results, a possible model of stress corrosion cracking of 304 austenitic stainless steel in $MgCl_2$ boiled solution was presented on the basis of the Film Rupture Model. This model is specified by the following process. Rupturing of passive film at notch tip .rarw. Dissolution of metal ion and formation of tunnel .rarw. Initiation of microcrack .rarw. Propagation of main crack .rarw. Recreation of passive film at new crack surface.

  • Artificial neural network (ANN) model is applied to predict arc welding process window for automotive steel plate. Target weldment was various automotive steel plate combination with lap fillet joint. The accuracy of prediction was evaluated through comparison experimental result to ANN simulation. The effect of ANN variables on the accuracy is investigated such as number of hidden layers, perceptrons and transfer function type. A static back propagation model is established and tested. The result shows comparatively accurate predictability of the suggested ANN model. However, it restricts to use nonlinear transfer function instead of linear type and suggests only one single hidden layer rather than multiple ones to get better accuracy. In addition to this, obvious fact is affirmed again that the more perceptrons guarantee the better accuracy under the precondition that there are enough experimental database to train the neural network.

  • A model is developed to quantitatively analyze the dilatometry curve of carbon steel for the evaluation of phase fraction during transformation. The effect of anisotropic volume change due to transformation mismatch plasticity as well as carbon enrichment in austenite during the transformation is considered in the developed model. The developed model is applied for the analysis of dilatometry curves of carbon steels. The result shows that considering the anisotropic dilatation is very essential to quantitatively evaluate the phase fraction from the dilatation curve.

  • Forming limit diagrams for three different galvanized deep drawing quality steel sheets have been measured by hemispherical punch stretching. The experimental forming limit diagrams have been compared with results calculated using the shear instability criterion and the M-K model which takes into account a strain gradient effect resulting from bending (curvature) of a flat sheet by punch stretching. The measured data were in good agreement with the results calculated using exponent M value of 8 in Hosford's yield criterion for the M-K model and M= 6 for the shear instability model.

  • In this study, applicable possibility in chemical decontamination for reactor coolant pump(RCP) was investigated for the various stainless steels. The stainless steel(STS) 304 showed the best electrochemical properties for corrosion current density and the lowest weight loss ratio in chemical decontamination process model 3-3 than other materials. The weightloss quantity in chemical decontamination process model 3-3 presents the lowest value compare to the other chemical decontamination process model 1, 2, 3-1 and 3-2. In the case of SEM observation, the pitting corrosion was generated in both STS 415 and STS 431 with the increasing numbers of cycle. The intergranular corrosion in STS 431 was sporadically observed. The sizes of their pitting corrosion were also increased with increasing cycle numbers.

  • This paper presents vector magnetic properties of an electrical steel sheet (ESS) employed for electric machine and iron loss analysis considering the vector magnetic properties of the ESS. The vector magnetic properties of the ESS are measured by using a two-dimensional single sheet tester and modeled by an E&S vector hysteresis model to be applied to finite element method. The finite element analysis considering the vector magnetic properties is applied to iron loss analysis of a three-phase induction motor model, and the influences of the vector magnetic properties on the iron loss distribution are verified by comparing with numerical results from a typical B-H curve model.

  • In steel and concrete composite girders, the load transfer between the steel beam and the concrete slab is commonly ensured by installing shear connectors. In this paper, to investigate the nonlinear behavior of perfobond connectors, a total of 60 push-out specimens were fabricated and tested with the variables for the hole diameter, the concrete strength, the thickness of concrete slab, the diameter, strength and existence of perforating rebar, the thickness, height and distance of perfobond ribs. The failure mode and the load-slip behavior of perfobond connectors were obtained. A theoretical model was put forward to express the load-slip relationship. Analytical formulas of shear capacity and peak slip were also proposed considering the interaction between the concrete dowel and the perforating rebar. The calculation results of the proposals agreed well with the experimental values.

  • This paper presents the iron loss prediction of rotating electric machines taking account of the vector hysteretic properties of electrical steel sheet. The E&S vector hysteresis model is adopted to describe the vector hysteretic properties of a non-oriented electrical steel sheet, and incorporated into finite element analysis (FEA) for magnetic field analysis and iron loss prediction. A permanent magnet synchronous generator is taken as a numerical model, and the analyzed magnetic field distribution and predicted iron loss by using the proposed method is compared with those from a conventional method which employs an empirical iron loss formula with FEA based on a non-linear B-H curve. Through the comparison the effectiveness of the presented method for the iron loss prediction of the rotating machine is verified.

  • Determining the hysteretic energy demand and dissipation capacity and level of damage of the structure to a predefined earthquake ground motion is a highly non-linear problem and is one of the questions involved in predicting the structure's response for low-performance levels (life safe, near collapse, collapse) in performance-based earthquake resistant design. Neural Network (NN) analysis offers an alternative approach for investigation of non-linear relationships in engineering problems. The results of NN yield a more realistic and accurate prediction. A NN model can help the engineer to predict the seismic performance of the structure and to design the structural elements, even when there is not adequate information at the early stages of the design process. The principal aim of this study is to develop and test multi-layered feedforward NNs trained with the back-propagation algorithm to model the non-linear relationship between the structural and ground motion parameters and the hysteretic energy demand in steel moment resisting frames. The approach adapted in this study was shown to be capable of providing accurate estimates of hysteretic energy demand by using the six design parameters.
