  • The dynamic characteristics of a bridge deduced by using the modeling techniques depend on its stiffness and mass calculated from its geometric model. This research develops the FE modeling techniques for a steel plate girder bridge with composite section. and proves their validity by comparing the results with those from actual measurement. The FE modeling techniques are divided into two categories--a simplified one and two-dimensional model and a detailed three-dimensional model. In the meantime, the dynamic responses of the bridge tested for this research were measured by the ambient vibration some of accelerometers were been attached to its upper slab girder under normal traffic load. The Cross Power Spectrum obtained from the measurement was used to analyze the dynamic characteristics by natural excitation techniques. The analytic results are compared to those of each FE modeling, and thereby the modeling techniques were proved to be valid.

  • In this study, we applied an on-site diagnostic method for estimating the structural safety of a plastic greenhouse. A three-dimensional light detection and ranging (3D LiDAR) sensor was used to scan the greenhouse to extract point cloud data (PCD). Differential thresholds of the color index were applied to the partitions of raw PCD to separate steel frames from plastic films. Additionally, the K-means algorithm was used to convert the steel frame PCD into the nodes of unit members. These nodes were subsequently transformed into structural shape data. To verify greenhouse shape reproducibility, the member lengths of the scan and blueprint models were compared with the measurements along the X-, Y-, and Z-axes. The error of the scan model was accurate at 2%-3%, whereas the error of the blueprint model was 5.4%. At a maximum snow depth of 0.5 m, the scan model revealed asymmetric horizontal deflection and extreme bending stress, which indicated that even minor shape irregularities could result in critical failures in extreme weather. The safety factor for bending stress in the scan model was 18.7% lower than that in the blueprint model. This phenomenon indicated that precise shape estimation is crucial for safety diagnostic. Future studies should focus on the development of an automated process based on supervised learning to ensure the widespread adoption of greenhouse safety diagnostics.

  • The basic Physical properties, Slump, Slump Flow, Air content, Bleeding, and Settlement of concrete was investigated to test Characteristic of Setting and to evaluate the relation between Model Specimen and Heat of Hydration for construction under Low Temperature (CFT). The objective of this study is to take the partial core after the cementation of Model Specimen, test the compression intensity and analyze the relation to Test Piece.

  • This study presents an application of object-oriented methodology for structural dcsign process. A prototype system of integrated a structural design system is developed by introducing a structural analysis object model(SAOM) and structural design object model(SDOM). The SAOM module. which is modeled as a part of structural member, performs structural analysis using FEM approach and the SDOM module checks structural members based on Korea steel design standard. • ACI 318-99 predicts the torsional moment of reinforced concrete members by assuming that the angle of diagonal compressive concrete is equal to 45 degree. However, this angle depends on the difference of longitudinal and transverse steel ratios. This paper compares the torsional moments calculated by ACI 318-99 code and a truss model considering compatibility of strains. The comparison indicated that the torsion equation in ACI code underestimated the real torsional moment of reinforced concrete beam in which the ratio of longitudinal reinforcement was larger than that of transverse reinforcement.

  • Analytical models for the prediction of the size of hardened zone in laser surface hardening are presented. The models are based on the solutions to the problem of three-dimensional heat flow in plates with infinite thickness. The validity of the model was tested on medium carbon steel for Gaaussian mode of beam. Then the model for rectangular beam was used for the prediction of the size of harened zone on various hardening process parameters. From the calculation results it appeared that the size and shape of the hardened zone are strongly dependent on process parameters suchas beam mode, beam size, and traverse speed.

  • A model for the weight distribution of pellet sizes of carbon black products is proposed so that it may be utilized in establishing the product standard and a quality control scheme. The various grades of carbon black products from the Korea Steel Chemical Co., Ltd. are examined to validate the adequacy of the proposed model.

  • In this paper, The experiment is performed for using reinforced building of foundation as a down conductor and a substitutional earth electrode. It is shown that earth resistance is influenced by mortar block resistance and concrete resistance more than the change of the resistance which is about steel reinforcing volume in all of the mortar block model and concrete block model.

  • In this study, analysis of creep-fatigue behavior of low alloy steel weld was performed. An interface was employed along the crack plane to simulate the interface between base metal and weld metal. A trapezoidal waveshapes was loaded cyclically and analysis result was compared with that of monotonic load. The material was assumed as elastic-plastic-secondary creeping material. Because the isotropic hardening plasticity model used in the last study cannot simulate the behavior of material under cyclic load, the linear kinematic hardening plasticity model was used. The behavior of strain field and $C_{t}$ parameter was obtained.d.

  • The present research aims to develop a methodology to rapidly assess bridges with damage to the superstructure, caused by overheight trucks or lower-than-average overhead clearance. Terrestrial laser scanning and image processing techniques are combined with the finite element method to arrive at an analytical model which is more accurate, with respect to the complex geometrical aspects of the bridge in its damaged configuration. ""Virtual load testing"" may subsequently be carried out on this analytical model to determine the reserve capacity of the structure in an objective manner.
