  • An MRAC-based adaptive current control scheme of an AC servo motor is presented for the performance improvement of a servo drive. Although the predictive current control is known to give ideal transient and steady-state responses, its steady-state response my be degraded under motor parameter variations. To overcome such a limitation, the disturbances caused by the parameter variations will be estimated by using an MRAC technique and compensated by a feedforward control. The proposed scheme does not require the measurement of the phase voltage unlike the conventional disturbance estimation scheme using observer. The asymptotic stability is proved. The proposed scheme is implemented using DSP TMS320C31 and the effectiveness is verified through the comparative simulations and experiments.

  • Frequency is an important operating parameter of a power system. Due to the sudden change in generation and loads or faults in power system, the frequency is supposed to deviate from its nominal value. It is essential that the frequency of a power system be maintained very close to its nominal frequency. And monitoring and an accurate estimation of the power frequency by timing synchronized signal provided by FDR is essential to optimum operation and prevention for wide area blackout. As most conventional frequency estimation schemes are based on DFT filter, it has been pointed out that the gain error by change in magnitude could cause the defects when the power frequency is deviated from nominal value. In this paper, an advanced frequency estimation scheme using gain compensation for fault disturbance recorders (FDR) is presented. The proposed scheme can reduce the gain error caused when the power frequency is deviated from nominal value. Various simulation using both the data from EMTP package and user's defined arbitrary signals are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can provide better accuracy and higher robustness to harmonics and noise under both steady state tests and dynamic conditions.

  • The friction is one of the nonlinearities to be considered in the precise position control of a system which has electromechanical components. The friction has complicated nonlinear characteristics and depends on the velocity, the position and the time. The conventional fixed friction compensator and the controller based on linear control theory may cause the steady state position error or oscillation. The plant to be controlled in this study is a positioning system with a linear brushless DC motor(LBLDCM). The system behaves like a 4th-order model including the compliance and the friction. In this study, the plant model is simplified to a 2nd-order model to reduce the computation in on- line estimation. Also, to reduce the computation time, only the friction is estimated on-line while the mass and the viscous damping coefficient are fixed to the values obtained from off-line estimation. The validity of the proposed scheme is illustrated with the computer simulation and the experiment where the friction is compensated by using the estimation.

  • This paper introduces a study of a method for the forward kinematic analysis, which finds the 6 DOF motions and velocities from the given six cylinder lengths in the Stewart platform. From the viewpoints of kinematics, the solution for the inverse kinematic is easily found by using the vectors of the links which are composed of the joint coordinates in base and plate frames, to act contrary to the serial manipulator, but forward kinematic is difficult because of the nonlinearity and complexity of the Stewart platform dynamic equation with the multi-solutions. Hence we, first in this study, introduce the linear estimator using the Luenberger's observer, and the estimator using the nonlinear measured model for the forward kinematic solutions. But it is difficult to find the parameter of the design for the estimation gain or to select the estimation gain and the constant steady state error exists. So this study suggests the estimator with the estimation gain to be learned by the neural network with the structure of multi-perceptron and the learning method using back propagation and shows the estimation performance using the simulation.

  • In this paper, to eliminate intersymbol interference of the received signal due to multipath propagation, a parallel equalization algorithm using two error estimation functions is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, multilevel two-dimensional signals are considered as equivalent binary signals, then error signals are estimated using the sigmoid nonlinearity effective at the initial phase equalization and threshold nonlinearity with high steady-state performance. The two errors are scaled by a weight depending on the relative accuracy of the two error estimations, then two filters are updated differentially. As a result, the combined output of two filters was to be the optimum value, fast convergence at initial stage of equalization and low steady-state error level were achieved at the same time thanks to the combining effect of two operation modes smoothly. Usefulness of the proposed algorithm was verified and compared with the conventional method through computer simulations.

  • The current emission regulations, US Tier-4 and EU Stage-V, are only able to satisfy the regulations when all currently mass-produced emission reduction technologies such as EGR, DOC, DPF, and SCR are applied. Therefore, in this study, for the application of the Urea-SCR system to non-road diesel engines, the database was established by measuring the NO, NO2 concentration and calculating the NO2/NOx ratio based on the catalyst temperature and exhaust mass flow rate. Also, based on the measured NO2/NOx ratio data, a mathematical model was proposed to predict the NO2/NOx ratio at SCR catalyst, and the suitability of the model was verified through steady-state and transient mode. As a result of comparing the NO2/NOx ratio measured at the DOC outlet under the steady-state condition to two model values separately, the R2 was 0.9811 for the 3D map model and 0.9303 for the mathematical model. And in the case of the NO2/NOx ratio measured at the DPF outlet, the R2 was 0.9797 for the 3D map model and 0.935 for the mathematical model. It was confirmed that the R2 with the model value of the 3D Map of the mathematical model in the transient mode is 0.957, which shows high reliability.

  • Recently, joint blind equalization and carrier recovery for digital mobile transmission system is of growing interest. In this paper, we describe new receiver structure of joint godard blind equalizer and various recovery loop for QAM modulated signal. After a brief review of Godard blind equalizer and MAP estimation Costas loop, Generalized Costas loop, Leclert loop, Angular form loop, we present two kinds of receiver structures for joint blind equalization and carrier recovery. Using a Monto Carlo simulation technique, we can confirm that two kinds of receiver structures operate very well in the steady state.

  • By showing the existence of the ARE solution and the convergence property of the DRE solution, this paper proves that a Kalman filter for the linear system with the unobservable bias is stable. It is also shown that the Kalman filter has a biased steady state estimation error whose covariance is affected mainly by the unobservable bias. Finally, the results are illustrated through a 2nd order system example including the inertial navigation system.

  • A thermal model based on the chamber geometry of the industry-standard AST SHS200MA rapid thermal processing system has been developed for the study of thermal uniformity and process repeatability thermal model combines radiation energy transfer directly from the tungsten-halogen lamps and the steady-state thermal conducting equations. Because of the difficulties of solving partial differential equation, calculation of wafer temperature was performed by using finite-difference approximation. The proposed thermal model was verified via titanium silicidation experiments. As a result, we can conclude that the thermal model show good estimation of wafer surface temperature distribution.

  • This paper analyzes the effect of resistance error to the performance of sensorless drive system of surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous machine (SMPMSM) based on the back-EMF observer. The analysis shows that the bandwidth of the entire sensorless drive system decreased in the low-speed region when using smaller resistance value than the actual one in the back-EMF observer. Even if the back-EMF observer invokes estimation error, the entire sensorless drive system does not make any steady-state position error. These characteristics may have positive effects such as extension of the low speed limit that goes further down in the sensorless drive. The validity of the analysis is verified by the experimental setup comprising the MG set.
