The virtual mass of net is an important parameter in the analysis and control of net movement in the water. This experiment was performed with the purpose of getting a relation on the quantity of netting and virtual mass of trawl nets using the circulating water channel that can control flow speed. Twelve types of conical nets were examined. Resistance of the conical net at the steady and acceleration state was recorded as text on the personal computer through the tension meter and current meter. The results were obtained as follows ;1. Resistance(R) of the conical net is proportional to the degree of attack angle in the sam e amount of twine material.2. Coefficient of the resistance(Cd)could be defined by the following regression model as a function of Reynolds Number(Re). Cd=0.039Re-0.14743. Resistance(R) is proportional to TSA(Twine surface area) and defined as follows; R=21.398TSA-0.12194. Coefficient of virtual mass(CM) could be calculated by the following first order regression model. CM=37.557U-8.96845. Virtual mass is directly proportional to Volume of net(V) or d/l.
This paper presents PKES(PuKyung -Excel based Simulator) for WWTPs(wastewater treatment plants) by using MS Excel and VBA(Visual Basic for Application). PKES is a user-friendly simulator for the design and optimization of the whole plant including biological and physico-chemical processes for the wastewater and sludge treatment. PKES calculates the performance under steady or dynamic state and allows changing the mathematical model by the user. Mathematical model implemented in PKES is a improved integration model based on ASM2d and ADM1 for simulation of AS(activated sludge) and AD(anaerobic digestion). Gaseous components of $N_2$, $N_2O$, $CO_2$ and $CH_4$ are added for estimation of GHGs(greenhouse gases) emission. The simulation results for comparison between PKES and Aquasim(EAWAG) showed about the same effluent concentrations. As a result of verification using by measured data of BOD, TSS, TN and TP for 2 years of operation, calculated effluent concentrations were similar to measured effluent concentrations. The values of average RMSE(root mean square error) were 1.9, 0.8, 1.6 and 0.2 mg/L for BOD, TSS, TN and TP, respectively. Total GHGs emission of WWTP calculated by PKES was 138.5 ton-$CO_2$/day and GHGs emissions of $N_2O$, $CO_2$ and $CH_4$ were calculated at 21.7, 28.9 and 87.9 ton-$CO_2$/day, respectively. GHGs emission of activated sludge was 32.5 % and that of anaerobic digestion was 67.5 %.
This study was undertaken for the production capacity expansion and energy saving through entire process simulation and optimization for the commercial process of manufacturing monoethylene glycol as a staple from ethylene oxide. Aspen $Plus^{TM}$(ver. 2006) was employed in the simulation and optimization work. The multicomponent vapor-liquid equilibria involved in the process were calculated using the NRTL-RK equation. As for the binary interaction parameters required for a total of 91 binary systems, those for 8 systems were self-supplied by the simulator, those for 28 systems were estimated through regression of the VLE data in the literature, and the remainder were estimated with the estimation system built in the simulator. Subsequent to ascertaining the accuracy of the generated parameters through comparison between actual and simulated process data, sensitive variables highly affecting the process were searched and selected using sensitivity analysis tool in the simulator. The optimum operating conditions minimizing the total heat duty of the process were investigated using the optimization tool based on the successive quadratic programming in the simulator.
In order to achieve the high quality output voltage of single-phase voltage source inverters, in this paper an Adaptive Complementary Sliding Mode Control (ACSMC) is proposed. Firstly, the dynamics model of the single-phase inverter with lumped uncertainty including parameter variations and external disturbances is derived. Then, the conventional Sliding Mode Control (SMC) and Complementary Sliding Mode Control (CSMC) are introduced separately. However, when system parameters vary or external disturbance occurs, the controlling performance such as tracking error, response speed et al. always could not satisfy the requirements based on the SMC and CSMC methods. Consequently, an ACSMC is developed. The ACSMC is composed of a CSMC term, a compensating control term and a filter parameters estimator. The compensating control term is applied to compensate for the system uncertainties, the filter parameters estimator is used for on-line LC parameter estimation by the proposed adaptive law. The adaptive law is derived using the Lyapunov theorem to guarantee the closed-loop stability. In order to decrease the control system cost, an inductor current estimator is developed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed controller is validated through Matlab/Simulink and experiments on a prototype single-phase inverter test bed with a TMS320LF28335 DSP. The simulation and experimental results show that compared to the conventional SMC and CSMC, the proposed ACSMC control strategy achieves more excellent performance such as fast transient response, small steady-state error, and low total harmonic distortion no matter under load step change, nonlinear load with inductor parameter variation or external disturbance.
As rubber products such as O-rings, which are also known as packings or toric joints, come in regular, long term contact with liquid fuel, they can eventually swell, become mechanically weakened, and occasionally crack; this diminishes both their usefulness and intrinsic lifetime and could cause leaks during the steady-state flow condition of the fuel. In this study, we evaluate the lifetime of such products through compression set tests of FKM, a family of fluorocarbon elastomer materials defined by the ASTM international standard D141; these materials have great compression, sunlight, and ozone resistance as well as a low gas absorption rate. In this process, O-rings are immersed in the liquid fuel of airtight containers that can be expressed as a compression set, and the liquid fuel leakage in a flow rig tester at variable temperatures over 12 months is investigated. Using the Power Law model, our study determined a theoretical O-ring lifetime of 2,647 years, i.e. a semi-permanent lifespan, by confirming the absence of liquid fuel leakage around the O-ring assembled fittings. These results indicate that the FKM O-rings are significantly compatible for fuel tests to evaluate long-term sealing conditions.

The ITL (information theoretic learning) based on the kernel density estimation method that has successfully been applied to machine learning and signal processing applications has a drawback of severe sensitiveness in choosing proper kernel sizes. For the maximization of correntropy criterion (MCC) as one of the ITL-type criteria, several methods of adapting the remaining kernel size ( ) after removing the term have been studied. In this paper, it is shown that the main cause of sensitivity in choosing the kernel size derives from the term and that the adaptive adjustment of in the remaining terms leads to approach the absolute value of error, which prevents the weight adjustment from continuing. Thus, it is proposed that choosing an appropriate constant as the kernel size for the remaining terms is more effective. In addition, the experiment results when compared to the conventional algorithm show that the proposed method enhances learning performance by about 2dB of steady state MSE with the same convergence rate. In an experiment for channel models, the proposed method enhances performance by 4 dB so that the proposed method is more suitable for more complex or inferior conditions.
One of the economical ways to satisfy the quality of service desired by the user in a web service environment is to adjust the size of the object. To this end, this study finds the maximum size of objects that satisfy this constraint when the mean response time is given below an arbitrary threshold for quality of service. It can be inferred that in the steady state of system, the mean response time in the deterministic model by using the round-robin will be the same as that of the queueing model following the general distribution. Based on this, analytical formulas and procedures for finding the maximum object size are obtained. As a service distribution of web traffic, the Pareto distribution is appropriate, so the maximum object size is computed by applying the M/G(Pareto)/1 model and the M/G/1/PS model using exponential distribution as computational experience. Performance evaluation through numerical calculation shows that as the shape parameter in the Pareto distribution increases, the M/G(Pareto)/1 model and M/G/1/PS model have the same maximum object size. The results of this study can be used to environments where objects can be sized for economical web service control.
We have proposed a method for estimating the size-dependent mortality (M) of short-lived semelparous cephalopod species. To estimate the size-dependent mortality of a winter cohort of the common squid Todarodes pacificus, a commercially important cephalopod species in the North Pacific, we used the data and results of previous studies. On the basis of the bigger-is-better the steady-state hypothesis, we derived a theoretical mortality curve by assuming M as an inverse function of mantle length (ML). The derived constant for size-specific instantaneous mortality (q), assuming an embryonic survival rate of 86.6%, was 0.413 day-1 mm in ML. Estimates of life-stage-specific M ranged from 0.0280 to 0.435 day-1 for paralarvae, 0.00278 to 0.0269 day-1 for juveniles, 0.00197 to 0.00275 day-1 for pre-spawning adults, and 0.0913 to 0.0920 day-1 for post-spawning adults. Sensitivity analyses showed that the derived size-dependent M did not significantly change with varying embryonic survival rates, from 48%, the lowest reported value, to 100%. Additionally, comparison of the length frequencies derived from our simulations with those derived from catch data did not show a significant difference, suggesting that our approach and procedures are reliable for stock assessment and management of the common squid.
Purpose : To evaluate and compare the accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound (US) for detection and estimation of invasion depth of colorectal carcinoma (CRC) by correlation with histopathologic findings in vitro, and to find out the best MR pulse sequence for accurate delineation of tumor from surrounding normal tissue. Materials and Methods: Resected specimens of CRC from 45 patients were examined about tumor detectability and invasion depth of US using high frequency (5-17 MHz) linear transducer in a tube filled with normal saline and MRI in a 8-channel quadrate head coil. The institutional review board approved this study and informed consent was waived. MRI with seven pulse sequences of in- and out-of-phases gradient echo T1 weighted images, fast spin echo T2 weighted image and its fat suppression image, fast imaging employing steady-state acquisition (FIESTA) and its fat suppression image, and diffusion weighted image (DWI) were performed. In each case, both imaging findings of MRI and US were evaluated independently for detection and estimation of invasion depth of tumor by consensus of two radiologists and were compared about diagnostic accuracy according to the histopathologic findings as reference standard. Seven MR pulse sequences were evaluated on the point of accurate delineation of tumor from surrounding normal tissue in each specimen. Results: In specimens of CRC, both imaging modalities of MRI (91.1%) and US (86.7%) showed relatively high diagnostic accuracy to detect tumor and evaluate invasion depth of tumor. In early CRC, diagnostic accuracy of US was 87.5% and that of MRI was 75.0%. There was no statistically significant difference between two imaging modalities (p > 0.05). The best pulse sequence among seven MR sequences for accurate delineation of tumor from surrounding normal tissue in each specimen of CRC was fast spin echo T2 weighted image. Conclusion: MRI and US show relatively high diagnostic accuracy to detect tumor and evaluate invasion depth of resected specimen of CRC. The most excellent pulse sequence of MRI for accurate delineation of tumor from surrounding normal tissue in CRC is fast spin echo T2 weighted image.
Efficiency estimation of toxicity free resistance cable experiments were conducts to understand toxicity free fire ersistance polyolefin insulation material and smoke density characteristic and combustion gas corrosion analysis. A main cause of fire-growth and generating toxic gas when it burns, should be dealt with great care in life safety design. Similar patterned fire incidents such as, Inchon Live-Hof Pub Restaurant as, Sea-land Children Resort have proven that serious loss of lives were caused by hazardous gas generated fire resistance cable materials. In this paper, Referenced documents were ASTM E662 standard test method for specific Ds genalated by solid materials. The furnace control system shall maintain the required irradiance level under steady-state condition with the chamber door closed of 2.5$\pm40.04〔w/$\textrm{cm}^2$〕for 20 min. According to the results of the smoke density analysis of NFR-8 and FR-PVC the highest decomposition flaming smoke density range of NFR-8 and FR-PVC were 25.2 to 37.5 and 51.1 respectively. Nonflaming smoke density range of NFR-8 and FR-PVC were 100.4 to 112.2 and 126.5 to 398.8. Also, the fire gases was occurred carbon monoxide and decomposition than in polyolefin due to incomplete combustion of PVC which has high content of carbon in chemical compound.
