  • A multi-type heat pump controls the mass flow rate of the working fluid to cope with variable heat loads when it is under dynamic load condition. This paper describes the exergy analysis associated with the unsteady response of a heat pump. First, a basic heat pump cycle is examined at a steady state to show the general trends of exergy variations in each process of the cycle. Entropy generation issue for the heat exchangers is discussed to optimize the heat pump cycle. Secondly, the performance of the inverter-driven heat pump is compared to that of the conventional one when the heat load is variable. Thirdly, the exergy destruction rate of the heat pump with On/Off operation is calculated by simulating the thermodynamic states of the working fluid in the condenser and the evaporator. The inefficiency of On/Off operation during the transient period is quantitatively described by the exergy analysis.

  • The objective of this work is to evaluate the hypothesis that a good technique for supplying oxygen to the saturated zone in the presence of light nonaqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) pool contamination at the water table is to pass air through the unsaturated zone above the pool. This hypothesis was evaluated in experimental studies performed using a bench-scale, sand-tank reactor, Steady-state abiotic experiments in the sand-tank reactor with air flowing through the reactor headspace demonstrated that oxygen supply through the water table interface into the saturated zone was enhanced when an LNAPL (dodecane) pool was present at the water table. These experimental results confirmed the hypothesis that an LNAPL pool can serve as a high concentration oxygen source to the oxygen-limited area beneath the pool and, as a result, enhance the in situ biodegradation rate.

  • It is proposed that the rotor time constant and inductance are compensated at the same time in the indirect vector control method of an induction motor. The proposed scheme compensates the rotor time constant using the difference between the Q-axis real stator current and estimated current that is calculated from the terminal voltage and current, and compensates inductance by using the difference between the D-axis real stator flux and estimated stator flux in the synchronous rotating reference frame. Although the rotor time constant and inductance vary at once, the proposed method compensates the rotor time constant and inductance with accuracy. In addition to, two variables can be compensated not only at the steady state condition, but also at the transient state, where the torque varies in a rectangular pulse waveform. Therefore, the performance of vector control is greatly improved as verified by experiment.

  • This paper presents a design technique of the fuzzy PID controller for power system stabilization. PID parameters of the fuzzy PID controller was self-tuned by the fuzzy inference algorithm. The Nosed controller compare with conventional power system stabilizer(PSS) under various of initial value of rotor angle deviation and load condition. The related simulation results show that the Nosed controller was more excellent control characteristics than conventional PSS in transient-state and steady-state response.

  • Power system stability assessment is a major requirement for safe operation of a power system. When the disturbance occurs, the power system transient stability is defined as the operating condition can return to steady state with getting over it. According to the system structure and the operating conditions. system instability is revealed in various shape. And as we know the result of transient stability analysis depends on the system load. In this paper, we've tried to know how much CCT is influenced as the system load changes. Therefore, comparing with CCT we can calculate the Pm that we can generate more in stable state.

  • In this paper, a hybrid fuzzy controller using genetic algorithm based on parameter estimation mode to obtain optimal control parameter is presented. First, The control input for the system in the HFC is a convex combination of the FLC's output in transient state and PID's output in steady state by a fuzzy variable, namely, membership function of weighting coefficient. Second, genetic algorithms is presented to automatically improve the performance of hybrid fuzzy controller utilizing the conventional methods for finding PID parameters and estimation mode of scaling factor. The algorithms estimates automatically the optimal values of scaling factors, PID parameters and membership function parameters of fuzzy control rules according to the rate of change and limitation condition of control input. Computer simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of proposed hybrid fuzzy controller. ITAE, overshoot and rising time are used as a performance index of controller.

  • Largely, there are three kinds of the design criteria of piping system in petrochemical plant. The first is on the pipe thickness in accordance with the design pressure of piping system. The second is on the static state evaluation by thermal growth and the other is on the dynamic evaluation by piping vibration. According to the ASME B31.3 code, the internal pressure design thickness fur straight pipe shall be calculated as a code formula. And the static design by thermal displacement is defined 7000 cycles of fatigue life in operating the piping system with a design condition. However, the dynamic design evaluation in comparative with small displacements of high frequencies to the static condition has not established clearly the method, yet. So, this study purposes to present the trial of a proposal of dynamic design criterion on the basis of static design method.

  • In this study, a membrane electrode assembly(MEA) composed of three electrodes(anode, cathode, and reference electrode) is designed to investigate the effects of methanol concentration on the overpotentials of anode and cathode in direct methanol fuel cells(DMFCs). Using the three-electrode cell, in-situ analyses of the overpotentials are carried out during direct methanol fuel cell operation. It is demonstrated that the three-electrode cell can work effectively in transient state operating condition as well as in steady-state condition, and the anode and cathode exhibit different overpotential curves depending on the concentration of methanol used as fuel. Therefore, from the real-time separation of the anode and cathode overpotentials, it is possible to more clearly prove the methanol crossover effect, and it is expected that in-situ analysis using the three-electrode cell will provide an opportunity to obtain more diverse results in the area of fuel cell research.

  • A practical pinch torque estimator based on the Kalman filter is proposed for low-cost anti-pinch window control systems. To obtain the accurate angular velocity from Hall-effect sensor measurements, the angular velocity calculation algorithm is executed with additional procedures for removing the measurement noises. Apart from the previous works using the angular velocity estimates and torque estimates for detecting the pinched condition, the torque rate is augmented to the system model and the proposed pinch estimator is derived by applying the steady-state Kalman filter recursion to the model. The motivation of this approach comes from the idea that the bias errors in torque estimates due to the motor parameter uncertainties can be almost eliminated by introducing the torque rate state. For detecting the pinched condition, a systematic way to determine the threshold level of the torque rate estimates is also suggested via the deterministic estimation error analysis. Simulation results are given to certify the pinch detection performance of the proposed algorithm and its robustness against the motor parameter uncertainties.

  • This paper deals with the concept design of HVDC system for controlling AC network reactive power. HVDC system can control active power and reactive power and the control concept of reactive power is similar to SVC(Static Var Compensator). Reactive power is controlled by adjusting firing angle of HVDC system under the condition that AC filters are switched. Reactive power depends on AC voltage condition, considering the steady-state and transient state to maintain the stable operation of AC network in the viewpoint of voltage stability. Therefore, in the design stage of HVDC, the reactive power required in the AC network must be considered. For the calculation of operation angle in HVDC system, the expected reactive power demand and supply status is examined at each AC system bus. The required reactive power affects the determination of the operation angle of HVDC. That is, the range of "control deadband" of operation angle should have the capability supplying the required reactive power. Finally, the reactive power control concepts is applied to 1GW BTB Pyeongtaek-Dangjin HVDC system.
