Controlling Horseshoe Vortex by the Leading-Edge Chamfer Groove in a Generic Wing-Body Junction (일반적인 블레이드 형상에서의 앞전 모서리 홈에 의한 말굽와류 제어)

  • The aerodynamic losses so attributed to the endwall - usually termed secondary flow losses or secondary losses - can be as high as 30$\sim$50% of the total aerodynamic losses in a blade or stator row. Inlet guide vanes, with lower total turning and higher convergence ratios, will have smaller secondary losses, amounting to as much as 20% of total loss for an inlet stator row. These are important part for improving a turbine efficiency. The present study deals with a leading edge chamfer groove on a wing-body to investigate the vortex generation and characteristics of a horseshoe vortex with the installed height, and depth of the groove. The current study is investigated with $FLUENT^{TM}$.

A study on characteristics of three phase induction motor by #Kr{\ddot}{a}mer# system (#Kr{\ddot}{a}mer# 시스템에 의한 3.phi.유도전동기의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The induction motor is widely used in the power equipments of the ship and the various industrial drive applications because it is robust and relatively simple and cheap to manufacture, but it has a disadvantage that the speed of induction motor is not controlled in wide range such as d.c motor. In this paper, the characteristics relating to the Kramer system that the speed of three phase wound type induction motor is controlled by changing the exciting e.m.f. of the secondary circuit is described. In order to analyze the characteristics, a new simplified and approximated T-type equivalent circuit from the Kramer circuit with three phase graetz connection and d.c machine is proposed. The stator current, motor torque and mechanical output power are computed by the current, torque and power equations derived by its equivalent circuit. Through the experiments, the $I_f-N$, torque-slip and current-slip characteristic curves of the tested motor are obtained and the various needed constants are determined. The numerical values obtained from the above method are compared with experimental values under the same conditions. As a result of the above investigation, it is found that the induction motor speed by the Kramer system is controlled by 28 per cent under the rated speed by changing the field current of d.c motor and the values computed by the current and torque equations derived by the simplified and approximated T-type equivalent circuit generally come to approach the experimental values.

Three-Phase Three-Switch Buck-Type Rectifier Based on Current Source Converter for 5MW PMSG Wind Turbine Systems

  • This paper proposes a three-phase three-switch buck-type converter as the MSC of a wind turbine system. Owing to a novel switching modulation scheme that can eliminate the unwanted diode rectifier mode switching state, the proposed system exhibits a satisfying ac voltage and current waveform quality and torque ripple up to the level of a typical current source rectifier even under a wide power factor operating range. The proposed system has been verified through simulations and HILS tests on a PMSG wind turbine model of 5MW/4160V. The proposed converter has been shown to provide a stator current THD of 3.9% and a torque ripple of 1% under the rated power condition. In addition to the inherent advantage of the reduced switch count of three-phase three-switch buck-type converters, the proposed switching modulation technique can make this converter a viable solution for the MSC placed inside of a nacelle, which is under severe volume, weight and mechanical vibration design limits.

  • In this paper, a fuzzy advance angle control method is described to drive an industrial low voltage SRM (Switched Reluctance Motor) for 10kW forklift truck. SRM has a highly non-linear characteristic that is due to change the rotor and stator. And low voltage SRM is designed that its phase resistance and phase inductance is very low to inject high current into the phase windings. In this reason, the proper current control is necessary to drive the low voltage SRM efficiently. SRM has positive torque at increasing inductance region and negative torque at decreasing inductance region. Due to this reason, the current has to be built up in the increasing phase inductance part as soon as possible. Therefore, the phase switch must be turned on before the phase inductance increases, and this angle is called as the advance angle. Also, the phase current has to be dropped before the phase inductance decreases. Fuzzy logic is a flexible and general-purposed method of implementing non-linear functions and as such it is useful in control applications. Consequently, we designed a fuzzy advance angle controller to control the phase current appropriately.

  • This paper descries the operation of a heater which was designed to control a motor that generates an eddy current. As the motor drives the rotor of an eddy current heater, magnetic fields are provided within the air gap between an eddy current heater's rotor and stator. Throughout the research, a rotor composed of 8 and 16 pieces of magnets was used to analyze which are the factors that affect the efficiency of this equipment. Test results showed that the magnetic fields are influenced by variable functions including the velocity of a motor and the quantity of magnets composing a rotor.

  • This paper describes a new sensorless speed control method for permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) using direct torque control(DTC). The direct torque control offers fast torque response, lesser hardware and processing costs as compared to vector controlled drives. In this paper the current error compensation technique is applied for sensorless speed control of synchronous motor. Through this method, the controlled stator voltage is applied to the synchronous motor so that the error between stator currents of the mathematical model and the actual motor can be forced to decay to zero as time proceeds and therefore, the motor speed approaches to the setting value. Especially, any PI controllers are not necessary in this control method. The simulation results indicate good speed and load responses from the low speed range to the high.

  • This paper describes sensorless speed control of brushless DC motors by using direct torque control. Direct torque control offers fast torque response, robust specification of parameter changes, and lower hardware and processing costs compared to vector-controlled drives. In this paper, the current error compensation method is applied to the sensorless speed control of a brushless DC motor. Through this control technique, the controlled stator voltage is applied to the brushless DC motor such that the error between the stator currents in the mathematical model and the actual motor can be forced to decay to zero as time proceeds, and therefore, the motor speed approaches the setting value. This paper discusses the composition of the controller, which can carry out robust speed control without any proportional-integral (PI) controllers. The simulation results show that the control system has good dynamic speed and load responses at wide ranges of speed.

Parallel Operation of Voltage Source Inverters by Using Stator Windings of High Power Three-Phase Induction Motors (대전력 3상 유도전동기의 고정자권선을 이용한 전압원 인버터의 병렬운전)

  • The parallel operation of voltage source inverters using stator windings of high power three-phase induction motors was proposed in this paper. Most current high power induction motors with more than 4 electric poles have their external terminals installed so that windings of each phase can be approached from the outside. High power induction motors can be driven by parallel-operating several voltage source inverters through these external terminals. This way, in case a certain inverter breaks down, the operation torque will get decreased but the system can maintain its operation with the other inverters, so it can cope more effectively with breakdowns. Moreover, by providing phase difference to the switching movements of each inverter, it can increase equivalent switching frequency, which helps achieve good characteristics such as the reduction in the ripple of output torque, the reduction in the ripple of input current, and the reduction in the size of DC capacitors. Besides, since power is divided into each inverter, it can also decrease the ifluence of EMI occurring in the system. The characteristics of the proposed method were proved through computer simulations in this paper.

Fault Detection and Identification of Induction Motors with Current Signals Based on Dynamic Time Warping

  • The issues of preventive and condition-based maintenance, online monitoring, system fault detection, diagnosis, and prognosis are of increasing importance. This study introduces a technique to detect and identify faults in induction motors. Stator currents were measured and stored by time domain. The time domain is not suitable for representing current signals, so wavelet transform is used to convert the signal; onto frequency domain. The raw signals can not show the significant feature, therefore difference values are applied. The difference values were transformed by wavelet transform and the features are extracted from the transformed signals. The dynamic time warping method was used to identify the four fault types. This study describes the results of detecting fault using wavelet analysis.

  • The advantage of the squirrel cage induction motor is the brush less rotor. This advantage for operation and maintenance turns out to be a disadvantage for the detection of the cage rotor bar and endring defects, which means that the detection of cage faults is due to the measurement and analysis of only the stator input signals. The monitoring task in an inverter drive is complicated mainly because the voltage and current waveforms are nonsinusoidal and the high dv/dt values from fast switching inverterd distort the measurements. In this paper, we are going to discuss the detection method of broken rotor bar of the inverter fed squirrel cage induction motor by the motor current signature analysis(MCSA) and the opening terminal voltage signal analysis.
