  • In school mathematics, concepts of definite integral and integration by substitution have mathematical connection with introduction of probability density function, expectation of continuous random variable, and standardization of normal distribution. However, we have difficulty in finding mathematical connection between integration and continuous probability distribution in the curriculum manual, 13 kinds of 'Basic Calculus and Statistics' and 10 kinds of 'Integration and Statistics' authorized textbooks, and activity books applied to the revised curriculum. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide a teaching method connected with mathematical concepts of integral in regard to three concepts in continuous probability distribution chapter-introduction of probability density function, expectation of continuous random variable, and standardization of normal distribution. To find mathematical connection between these three concepts and integral, we analyze a survey of student, the revised curriculum manual, authorized textbooks, and activity books as well as 13 domestic and 22 international statistics (or probability) books. Developed teaching method was applied to actual classes after discussion with a professional group. Through these steps, we propose the result by making suggestions to revise curriculum or change the contents of textbook.

  • The purpose of this paper is to show how much the subjects based on the mathematics and statistics contribute to the curriculum and the education of the students majoring in engineer of the Computer-Software department, and to recognize the roles of mathematics and statistics in the Computer-Software department. In order to advance the world-class Computer-Software department, it is necessary for Math/Stat to ensure the role as a basis for the Computer-Software majors as well as to extend its role to relate the core studies of the Computer-Software majors. Consequently, the recognition of Math/Stat in the Computer-Software major will enable to establish the short or/and long-tern plan for student education.

  • A lot of the departments of statistics the Korean universities have changed their departmental names into those related with information sciences. The department of statistics in Taejon University also changed its departmental name, since industries are demanding the statisticians with knowledges about information sciences. The curriculum of the department was reorganized as the graduates can immediately satisfy the demand of future parment was reorganized as the graduates can immediately satisfy the demand of future employers. However, we believe that these should be some departments of statistics devoting to teach high level of statistical theories and to do researches on statistical theories.

  • This work aims to investigate mathematics teachers' knowledge and belief on the high school probability and statistics. For this aim, two research questions are estabilished as follows. (1) How is mathematics teachers' knowledge on the main contents of the high school probability and statistics in the 7th mathematics curriculum? (2) What is mathematics teachers' belief on the high school probability and statistics? Survey and interviews were carried out to answer the above research questions. Subjects of the survey were 2 7mathematics teachers who were answered to questionnaire. Among them, 3 volunteers were chosen by provinces for in-depth interview. Research findings in mathematics teacher's knowledge are as follows. Firstly, mathematics teachers do not have much of mathematical knowledge on the newly added and changed contents of the high school probability and statistics in the 7th mathematics curriculum. Secondly, mathematics teachers do not change their teaching-learning method for probability and statistics. Thirdly, many teachers think that the use of technology and reconstruction of the textbooks are required in teaching and learning of the high school probability and statistics. But, they stick on their own way. Research findings in mathematics teachers' belief are as follows. Firstly, many mathematics teachers view the nature of statistics as a branch of the applied mathematics and put the value of high school probability and statistics on the practical usefulness, Secondly, many mathematics teachers think that understanding concepts and improving problem solving ability are the best method of the teaching and learning. Thirdly, many mathematics teachers think that high school probability and statistics textbooks should cause motivations and interests in order not to give up studying probability and statistics. It is expected that the above findings can be used to change teachers' teaching and learning methods and to improve teachers training program.

  • This research assumes two facts; One is that the mathematics curriculum reform of Korea in 2007 would have been better if it had been a revise instead of deletion and the other is that every school curriculum should be of help for the sound enhancement of all 6 types of logical concepts that appears in the Piaget's theory of cognitive development. What our mathematics curriculum has introduced as a correlation is not the one of the 6 logical concepts that Piaget had thought in his theory of cognitive development. In order to see the reason of that difference, we check the difference of jargons among the academic denominations, such as Pedagogy, Psychology and Statistics through their college textbooks. Because we suppose that the mismatch of 'Piaget's vs Curriculum's correlation' is due to the mis-communication among scholars of different academic denominations. With what we learned via the above analytical study leaned on an abduction and to get some idea on them for the potential future construction of school Statistics curriculum when it should be returned, which we believe so, we observe two foreign highschool mathematics textbooks briefly. As a result of the study, we found that the concept of correlation in Pedagogy contain all kinds of relation while it was stingy in Statistics. Here we report a main result; A careful discretion among similar concepts of correlation, such as linear relationship(correlation), stochastic change along conditions(dependence), central comparison(other relation) are needed for the potential future curriculum. And if new curriculum contains the linear correlation then we strongly recommend to involve the regression line to connect it with the linear function chapter.

  • This paper shows that mathematics and statistics are not only a necessity but a strategic element in contributing for the competitiveness of field of S/W and H/W. First, a survey was conducted to investigate the perceived importance of mathematics and statistics to the specialists of the field. Second, computer programming was implemented in university mathematics courses to understand the educational effect related to problem solving ability. Third, a educational case in which mathematics and statistics in S/W and H/W subject were combined was analyzed. Lastly, an effective plan for mathematics and statistics education in the field of S/W and H/W will be presented.

  • Recently the status of statistics is in a critical condition in the curriculum of the universities. It is largely due to the decrease of applicants for the admission to the universities and growing tendency to prefer the departments that are advantageous for getting a job after graduation. Another reason for the present crisis of statistics is that scholars of statistics and related scholarly associations fail to prepare measures for the activation of statistics. In order to cope with these general problems, this study surveyed the courses which are related with or support the subject of statistics in the department, other than statistics, of two universities in the Yeongnam province. Based on the survey this study aims at suggesting some ways of activation of statistics.

  • In this thesis, we conduct a comprehensive analysis of the current situation and the inherent problems found in modern statistics education in Elementary School. There are statistical curriculum, 7th textbook of elementary school level, practise of statistics class, connection of real life etc. Through analysis of these given problem, we explore the future direction of statistical education. Therefore, the statistical learning to make statistical situations and pose problems based on students' interests and students-related situations should be an effects on positive mathematical attitude and statistical thinking which could develop understanding statistical problems and thinking.
