The Impact of M&L Psychotherapy on the Growth and Development of a Socially Disadvantaged Adolescent with Anxiety Disorders - Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of a Single Case (M&L 심리치료가 불안장애를 가진 취약계층 청소년의 건강한 성장에 미치는 영향 - 단일증례의 양적, 질적 분석)

  • Objectives: This study investigates the impact of M&L psychotherapy on an adolescent with anxiety disorders transitioning into adulthood, using a retrospective mixed-method approach. Methods: An adolescent with Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)-5-diagnosed anxiety disorders underwent combined treatment with M&L psychotherapy and complex Korean medicine therapy over a period of approximately two years. Patient records tracked the diagnosis, treatments, and progress. In-depth interviews were also conducted. The study used a convergent parallel mixed-method approach, integrating quantitative analysis from psychological assessments, including the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-X), the Core Seven Emotions Inventory-short form (CSEI-s), and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2), with qualitative analyses of traditional Korean medicine counseling session notes, interviews, and other qualitative psychological assessments. Results: State anxiety decreased from 40 to 36, and trait anxiety decreased from 42 to 34. MMPI-2 L scale scores decreased slightly to 64T, whereas S scale scores increased to 62T, and FRS scores decreased to 70T from an initial score of 78T. Qualitative analysis revealed an increase in the MMPI-2 Es scale, identified as "subjectivity." Joy (喜) emerged as the highest emotional profile score in the CSEI-S. Scores for anger (怒), thought (思), fear (恐), and fright (驚) decreased, indicating improved negative emotions. Qualitatively, expressions of determination to "move forward" and "strengthen the mind" were noted, suggesting enhanced "lower danjeon (下丹田)." Conclusions: Integrating traditional Korean medicine treatment with M&L psychotherapy for a vulnerable adolescent with anxiety disorders demonstrated efficacy. Further research is warranted to substantiate the effectiveness of M&L psychotherapy and advocate for its wider adoption in mainstream practice.

Effect of dietary protein levels and age on growth performance, total excreta and nitrogen balance of laying hens during the growing phase

  • This study examined the effect of a dietary protein level and age on growth performance, total excreta, and nitrogen balance in laying hen during the growing period for 18 weeks. A total of 96 Hy-Line Brown laying hens were divided into two treatments according to the experimental diets, with each group consisting of six replicates. The experimental diets included: 1) an adequate metabolizable energy and crude protein diet formulated to meet the age and breed specification for Hy-Line Brown containing 21, 18, 16, and 14% dietary CP during 0 to 6, 6 to 12, 12 to 15, 15 to 18 weeks, respectively (CON); 2) 2% CP deficiency from CON diet containing 19, 16, 14, 12% dietary CP during 0 to 6, 6 to 12, 12 to 15, 15 to 18 weeks, respectively (LP). Growth performance, total excreta, and nitrogen balance were investigated for 18 weeks every 3 weeks, and two-way ANOVA was used for statistical analysis of data. The LP group had lower total excreta and N intake than CON group in the whole period of the experiment (p < 0.001). Moreover, birds in the LP group showed lower N excretion than the CON group (p < 0.05). However, the CON group exhibited higher BW, ADG than the LP group (p < 0.001). Application of low-protein diet to laying hens during the growing period reduced N excretion, which contribute to the sustainable development of the laying hen industry by minimizing environmental pollution.

Cognitive Function Effects of Acupuncture Treatment for Mild Cognitive Impairment : Systematic Literature Review and Meta-Analysis (경도인지장애 침치료 인지기능효과 : 체계적 문헌고찰 메타분석)

  • Objectives : Using MMSE and MoCA cognitive tools, this study tried to measure the effect of acupuncture differing by cognitive types. Through the method of PRISMA literature review, this study aimed to understand and improve the acupuncture's effectiveness in its application. Methods : The research method was a literature review and Cochrane meta-analysis of papers on the effectiveness of acupuncture treatments for mild cognitive impairment conducted from 2012 to 2023. The Cochrane risk of bias (RoB) tool was used as a quality analysis tool, and the meta-analysis tool was Cochrane RevMan V5.4.1 software. Results : As a result of the study, a total of 967 subjects were used for analysis, and 16 papers on randomized acupuncture trials were analyzed. The results are as follows: As a result of meta-analysis of acupuncture intervention for mild cognitive impairment, the MMSE score had an average of 1.61 with a 95% confidence interval ranging from 0.14 to 3.07, and a statistically significant result with p<0.001. The Z-score was 2.15, which corresponded to a p-value of 0.03. The MoCA score had an average range between 0.39 and 2.49, also showing statistical significance with p<0.001, and a Z-score of 2.70 (p=0.007). The effect of acupuncture in subjects with mild cognitive impairment was significant. Conclusion : The suggestions and conclusion indicate that acupuncture intervention has a significant effect on mild cognitive impairment. This study propose future experimental research on various types of acupuncture interventions for mild cognitive impairment. The significance of this study is that it presented basic data for the development of a preventive convergence cognitive intervention program for patients with mild cognitive impairment in the community.

Effect of Korean Medical Treatment on Child and Adolescent with Depressive Disorder and Analysis of Correlations among Anxious and Anger Psychological Scale Changes: A Restrospective Chart Review (소아·청소년의 우울장애 환자에 대한 한의치료의 효과 및 불안, 분노 심리척도 상관성 분석: 후향적 관찰 연구)

  • Objectives: To examine effect of Korean medical treatment on child and adolescent patients with depressive disorder and correlations among changes in anxiety and anger psychological scales before and after treatment. Methods: Medical records of 28 adolescent and 9 child patients diagnosed with depressive disorder based on Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-V (DSM-V) who received Korean medical treatment (herbal-medication, acupuncture, Korean psychotherapy, and so on) for at least 8 weeks were retrospectively reviewed. Psychological scales including Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), State Anxiety Inventory for Children (SAIC), Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (TAIC), and Children's Inventory of Anger (ChIA) were measured every four weeks and analyzed. Results: After eight weeks of treatment, STAI-X-1 (State Anxiety), STAI-X-2 (Trait Anxiety), BDI-2, BAI, STAXI-S (State Anger), AXI-K-I (Anger Expression-In) and AXI-K-O (Anger Expression-Out) showed statistically significant decreases in adolescent patients. In child patients, ChIA was significantly improved after eight weeks. For psychological scale pairs in adolescent patients, BDI-2 and STAI-X-1·STAI-X-2·BAI·STAXI-S·AXI-K-I, STAIX-T and STAXI-S·AXI-K-I showed significant positive correlations whereas AXI-K-O and AXI-K-C showed a negative correlation. In child paitents, there was a significant positive correlation for all psychological scales except for the relationship between SAIC and ChIA. In adolescent patients, low pretreatment BDI-2 predicted BAI, STAXI-S, and AXI-K-I score reduction after 8 weeks. Lower BAI scores significantly decreased STAI-X-2 and BDI-2 scores after 8 weeks but increased AXI-K-C. In child paitents, low pretreatment ChIA scores predicted a decrease in CDI score after treatment. Conclusions: Korean medical treatments including herbal medicine, acupuncture, and Korean psychotherapy were effective in improving depressive disorder and accompanying symptoms such as anxiety and anger of child and adolescent patients.

A STUDY ON THE CHANGE OF SALIVARY FLUORIDE CONCENTRATION WITH TIME AFTER VARIOUS TOPICAL FLUORIDE TREATMENTS (각종 불소처치 이후 시간변화에 따른 타액내 불소농도 변화에 관한 연구)

  • Several alternatives for increasing the fluoride concentration in the mouth, such as water fluoridation, ingestion of fluoride supplements, fluoride paste, fluoride mouthrinse, application of fluoride gel are available. There is an impressive body of evidence that the topically deliverd fluorides are clinically effective in inhibiting the progression of dental caries. Recent studies on the cariostatic action of fluoride have indicated the importance of fluoride in the fluid environment of the teeth. The fluoride levels in unstimulated whole saliva can be considered indicative of F in the aqueous phase available for interaction with the tooth surface at a given time. The retention of F in the mouth after topical fluoride treatment is considered to be an important factor in the clinical efficacy of F. The aim of this study was to determine the elevation and clearance of fluoride in whole saliv after the following topical flouride treatments using HMDS-diffusion technique and fluoride ion electrode. The obtained results were as follow: 1. Average salivary fluoride concentration in the unstimulated whole saliva was $0.0152ppm{\pm}0.0091ppm$. Unstimulated salivary flow rate was between 0.34-0.36ml/min and there was no statistically significant difference among the groups(p>0.05). 2. Except for the immediate time after treatment, fluoride levels followed as APF gel>neutral gel>F-rinse>F-paste. There was no statistical difference between the salivary F concentration of F-paste group and that of control group after 2 hours. In case of F-rinse group, after 3 hours the concentration had dropped to baseline value. But there was statistically significant difference among the F concentraion of F gel groups and that of control group(p<0.05). 3. The mean $AUC_{0-120min}$ values were followed as neutral gel>APF gel>F-rinse>F-paste, and the values of the two former groups were significantly higher than those of the two latter groups(p<0.05).

Effect of Sample Preparation on Predicting Chemical Composition and Fermentation Parameters in Italian ryegrass Silages by Near Infrared Spectroscopy (시료 전처리 방법이 근적외선분광법을 이용한 이탈리안 라이그라스 사일리지의 화학적 조성분 및 발효품질 평가에 미치는 영향)

  • Near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) has become increasingly used as a rapid, accurate method of evaluating some chemical constituents in cereal and dired animal forages. Analysis of forage quality by NIRS usually involves dry grinding samples. Costs might be reduced if samples could be analyzed without drying or grinding. The objective of this study was to investigate effect of sample preparations on prediction ability of chemical composition and fermentation parameter for Italian ryegrass silages by NIRS. A population of 147 Italian ryegrass silages representing a wide range in chemical parameters were used in this investigation. Samples were scanned at 1nm intervals over the wavelength range 680-2500 nm and the optical data recorded as log 1/Reflectance (log 1/R) and scanned in oven-dried grinding and fresh ungrinding condition. The spectral data were regressed against a range of chemical parameters using partial least squares (PLS) multivariate analysis in conjunction with four spectral math treatments to reduced the effect of extraneous noise. The optimum calibrations were selected on the basis of minimizing the standard error of cross validation (SECV) and maximizing the correlation coefficient of cross validation (${R^2}_{CV}$). The results of this study show that NIRS predicted the chemical parameters with high degree of accuracy in oven-dried grinding treatment except for moisture contents. Prediction accuracy of the moisture contents was better for fresh ungrinding treatment (SECV 1.37%, $R^2$ 0.96) than for oven-dried grinding treatments (SECV 4.31%, $R^2$ 0.68). Although the statistical indexes for accuracy of the prediction were the lower in fresh ungrinding treatment, fresh treatment may be acceptable when processing is costly or when some changes in component due to the processing are expected. Results of this experiment showed the possibility of NIRS method to predict the chemical composition and fermentation parameter of Italian ryegrass silages as routine analysis method in feeding value evaluation and for farmer advice.

Effects of Fertigation with Pig Slurry on Growth and Yield of Red pepper (돈분 액비를 이용한 관비재배가 고추의 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • Slurry composting biofiltration(SCB) is considered as a treatment to produce a better fertilizer resource than raw pig slurry as it reduces odor and improves nutrients imbalance. For the agricultural use of SCB slurry as a nutrient source with minimum environmental impact, it is important to investigate the effect of different rate of SCB slurry application on nutrient (particularly for nitrogen) uptake and growth of crops. This study was conducted to investigate the influence of fertigation using pig slurry(PS) on growth and yield of red pepper and to evaluate the appropriate PS concentration in fertigation for soils with different nitrate concentration. To evaluate the effects of fertigation applied PS as a substitute of chemical fertilizer(CF), a single application of three different concentrations of PS: $N_{0.5}$ (43 mg/L), $N_{1.0}$ (86 mg/L) and $N_{1.5}$ (131 mg/L) were compared with CF $N_{1.0}$ (89 mg/L) as a control nitrogen fertilizer. Statistical analysis showed that the growths of red pepper were not affected by treatments. In addition, the yields were no significant difference among treatments, though the highest yield was obtained in PS $N_{1.0}$ by 20,580 kg/ha. In soil chemical properties, nitrate nitrogen on soil of between PS N1.0 and CF $N_{1.0}$ treatment showed similar patterns although they were higher than the preplant nitrogen content. Also, there was no significant difference in yield of red pepper between PS and CF treatment applied as fertigation on soils where nitrate nitrogen contents of each soil contains 10, 100 and 200 mg/kg respectively. Consequently, the application of PS, such as SCB, as a substitute of CF is available for growth and yield of red pepper, there could be accordingly estimated the optimal fertigation concentration of PS for red pepper cultivation.

Evaluation of Compost Qualities with or without Microbial Inoculation for Food Waste Composting (미생물제 첨가유무에 따른 음식물 쓰레기 퇴비 부숙도 평가)

  • This studies were conducted to evaluate efficiency of microbial inoculator for active composting of food wastes. The Microbial inoculators used in this studies were purchased from different comparise to evaluate their effectiveness for composting of food waste in Korea. The number of bacteria growing at $30^{\circ}C$ in commercial inoculator collected were below $91.0{\times}10^8\;CFU/g$ which were counted from well cured compost made by animal manure. The number of bacteria in commercial microbial inoculator, such as FL, VP, B9, CM and GE were higher than that of composted at $50^{\circ}C$ or $60^{\circ}C$ of incubation temperature. Fungi were counted in GR, VP and B9 as over $10^3CFU/g$ at $30^{\circ}C$ of incubation temperature, while fungi of all the commercial inoculator collected could not grown at $50^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$. Actinomycetes in most of the these had higher number($10^5CFU/g$) than that of compost : however, it was not detected at $60^{\circ}C$ incubation temperature from all the samples collected. The amount of carbon dioxid production was order to VP>HU>B9>GE>CM>Control>Compost in the lab scale composting test with or without inoculation of commercial inoculators, however, but the difference in carbon dioxide production was similar among each treatments. The effect of inoculation on composting parmeter such as pH changes, temperature increasing and change of chemicals properties were a little among each treatments, with or without inoculation of commercial inoculator in active composting of food waste. Using commercial inoculator did not show any statistical difference in food waste composting process under various condition such as pH changes, temperature changes, etc.

A Three-year Study on the Leaf and Soil Nitrogen Contents Influenced by Irrigation Frequency, Clipping Return or Removal and Nitrogen Rate in a Creeping Bentgrass Fairway (크리핑 벤트그라스 훼어웨이에서 관수회수.예지물과 질소시비수준이 엽조직 및 토양 질소함유량에 미치는 효과)

  • Responses of 'Penncross' creeping bentgrass turf to various fairway cultural practices are not well-established or supported by research results. This study was initiated to evaluate the effects of irrigation frequency, clipping return or removal, and nitrogen rate on leaf and soil nitrogen con-tent in the 'Penncross' creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds.) turf. A 'Penncross' creeping bentgrass turf was established in 1988 on a Sharpsburg silty-clay loam (Typic Argiudoll). The experiment was conducted from 1989 to 1991 under nontraffic conditions. A split-split-plot experimental design was used. Daily or biweekly irrigation, clipping return or removal, and 5, 15, or 25 g N $m-^2$ $yr-^1$ were the main-, sub-, and sub-sub-plot treatments, respectively. Treatments were replicated 3 times in a randomized complete block design. The turf was mowed 4 times weekly at a l3 mm height of cut. Leaf tissue nitrogen content was analyzed twice in 1989 and three times in both 1990 and 1991. Leaf samples were collected from turfgrass plants in the treatment plots, dried immediately at 70˚C for 48 hours, and evaluated for total-N content, using the Kjeldahl method. Concurrently, six soil cores (18mm diam. by 200 mm depth) were collected, air dried, and analyzed for total-N content. Nitrogen analysis on the soil and leaf samples were made in the Soil and Plant Analyical Laboratory, at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, USA. Data were analyzed as a split-split-plot with analysis of variance (ANOVA), using the General Linear Model procedures of the Statistical Analysis System. The nitrogen content of the leaf tissue is variable in creeping bentgrass fairway turf with clip-ping recycles, nitrogen application rate and time after establishment. Leaf tissue nitrogen content increased with clipping return and nitrogen rate. Plots treated with clipping return had 8% and 5% more nitrogen content in the leaf tissue in 1989 and 1990, respectively, as compared to plots treated with clipping removal. Plots applied with high-N level (25g N $m-^2$ $yr-^1$)had 10%, 17%, and 13% more nitrogen content in leaf tissue in 1989, 1990, and 1991, respectively, when compared with plots applied with low-N level (5g N $m-^2$ $yr-^1$). Overall observations during the study indicated that leaf tissue nitrogen content increased at any nitrogen rate with time after establishment. At the low-N level treatment (5g N $m-^2$ $yr-^1$ ), plots sampled in 1991 had 15% more leaf nitrogen content, as compared to plots sampled in 1989. Similar responses were also found from the high-N level treatment (25g N $m-^2$ $yr-^1$ ).Plots analyzed in 1991 were 18% higher than that of plots analyzed in 1989. No significant treatment effects were observed for soil nitrogen content over the first 3 years after establishment. Strategic management application is necessary for the golf course turf, depending on whether clippings return or not. Different approaches should be addressed to turf fertilization program from a standpoint of clipping recycles. It is recommended that regular analysis of the soil and leaf tissue of golf course turf must be made and fertilization program should be developed through the interpretation of its analytic data result. In golf courses where clippings are recycled, the fertilization program need to be adjusted, being 20% to 30% less nitrogen input over the clipping-removed areas. Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy in Locally Advanced Esophageal Cancer (국소적으로 진행된 식도암에서 동시항암화학방사선치료의 결과)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to evaluate the results of local control, survival rate, prognostic factors, and failure pattern in locally advanced esophageal cancer. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively studied 50 patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy at Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center from June of 1999 to August of 2008. Seven patients with inappropriate data were excluded, and 43 patients were analyzed. There were 39 males and four female patients ranging in age from 43 to 78 years (median, 63 years). There were seven patients with stage IIA and 36 with stage III. Irradiation from 46 Gy to 63 Gy (median, 54 Gy) was carried out 5 days per week, 1.8 Gy once a day. There were eight patients with neo-adjuvant chemotherapy, and we mostly used 5-fluorouracil, cisplatin with 3 cycles for concurrent chemotherapy. The range of follow up periods was from 2 to 82 months (median, 15.5). Results: There were nine patients that exhibited a cornplete response, 23 that exhibited a partial response, 9 that exhibited no response, and 2 that exhibited disease progression. The median survival time was 15 months. Two-year and 5-year survival rates were 36.5% and 17.3%, respectively. Two-year and 5-year disease-free survival rates were 32.4% and 16%, respectively. Treatment failure occurred in 22 patients (51.2%). Patterns of failure were categorized as local failure in 18 patients and distant metastasis in four patients. In a univariate analysis for prognostic factors related to overall survival and disease-free survival, the hemoglobin levels during chemoradiotherapy (${\geq}$ 12 vs. <12, p=0.02(p=0.1) and the response to the treatments (CR/PR vs. NR/PD, p=0.002/p< 0.0001) were statistically significant. In a multivariate analysis, only response to the treatments was revealed to be statistically significant. There was no statistical significance associated with patient age, gender, disease stage, T-stage, smoking history, tumor location, or neo-adjuvant chemotherapy. Conclusion: Our survival rate was similar to those of other institutions. Local recurrence was the main reason for failure. It is suggested that further prospective studies should be performed to improve local control.
