  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of the abutment superimposition process on the final virtual model in the scanning process of single and 3-units bridge model using a dental model scanner. Materials and methods: A gypsum model for single and 3-unit bridges was manufactured for evaluating. And working casts with removable dies were made using Pindex system. A dental model scanner (3Shape E1 scanner) was used to obtain CAD reference model (CRM) and CAD test model (CTM). The CRM was scanned without removing after dividing the abutments in the working cast. Then, CTM was scanned with separated from the divided abutments and superimposed on the CRM (n=20). Finally, three-dimensional analysis software (Geomagic control X) was used to analyze the root mean square (RMS) and Mann-Whitney U test was used for statistical analysis (${\alpha}=.05$). Results: The RMS mean abutment for single full crown preparation was $10.93{\mu}m$ and the RMS average abutment for 3 unit bridge preparation was $6.9{\mu}m$. The RMS mean of the two groups showed statistically significant differences (P<.001). In addition, errors of positive and negative of two groups averaged $9.83{\mu}m$, $-6.79{\mu}m$ and 3-units bridge abutment $6.22{\mu}m$, $-3.3{\mu}m$, respectively. The mean values of the errors of positive and negative of two groups were all statistically significantly lower in 3-unit bridge abutments (P<.001). Conclusion: Although the number of abutments increased during the scan process of the working cast with removable dies, the error due to the superimposition of abutments did not increase. There was also a significantly higher error in single abutments, but within the range of clinically acceptable scan accuracy.

  • This study presents the width function-based Clark model. To this end, rescaled width function with distinction between hillslope and channel velocity is used as time-area curve and then it is routed through linear storage within the framework of not finite difference scheme used in original Clark model but analytical expression of linear storage routing. There are three parameters focused in this study: storage coefficient, hillslope velocity and channel velocity. SCE-UA, one of the popular global optimization methods, is applied to estimate them. The shapes of resulting IUHs from this study are evaluated in terms of the three statistical moments of hydrologic response functions: mean, variance and the third moment about the center of IUH. The correlation coefficients to the three statistical moments simulated in this study against these of observed hydrographs were estimated at 0.995 for the mean, 0.993 for the variance and 0.983 for the third moment about the center of IUH. The shape of resulting IUHs from this study give rise to satisfactory simulation results in terms of the mean and variance. But the third moment about the center of IUH tend to be overestimated. Clark model proposed in this study is superior to the one only taking into account mean and variance of IUH with respect to skewness, peak discharge and peak time of runoff hydrograph. From this result it is confirmed that the method suggested in this study is useful tool to reflect the heterogeneity of drainage path and hydrodynamic parameters. The variation of statistical moments of IUH are mainly influenced by storage coefficient and in turn the effect of channel velocity is greater than the one of hillslope velocity. Therefore storage coefficient and channel velocity are the crucial factors in shaping the form of IUH and should be considered carefully to apply Clark model proposed in this study.

  • Germanium crystals have a dead layer that causes efficiency deterioration because the layer is not useful for detection but strongly weakens the photons. Thus, when the data provided by the manufacturer is used in the detector simulation model, there is a slight difference between the calculated efficiency and the measured efficiency. The shape and dimensions of the high purity germanium (HPGe) detector were determined by CT scans to accurately characterize the shape for the Monte Carlo roll simulation. It is found that the adjustment of the dead layer is a good match with the relative deviation of ${\pm}3%$ between the measurement efficiency and the simulation efficiency at the energy range of 50 - 1500 keV. Simulation data were compared by varying the thickness of the dead layer. The new Monte Carlo simulations were compared with the experimental results to obtain new blank layer thicknesses. The difference in dead layer results for the 1.5 mm thick end cap simulation model in 1.4 and 1.6 mm thick End Cap simulation models was a systematic error due to the accuracy of the end cap dimensions. After considering all errors including statistical errors and systematic errors, the thickness of the detector was calculated as $1.02{\pm}0.14mm$. Therefore, it was confirmed that the increase in the thickness of the dead layer causes the effect to be effected on the efficiency reduction.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish a method of estimating the daily urban water demand using statistical model. This method will be used for the development of the efficient management and operation of the water supply facilities. The data used were the daily urban water use, the population, the year lapse and the weather conditions such as temperature, precipitation, relative humidity, etc. Kwangju city was selected for the case study area. The raw data used in this study were rearranged either by month or by season for the purpose of analysis, and the statistical analysis was applied to the data to obtain the regression model. As a result, the multiple linear regression model was developed to estimate the daily urban water use based on the seather condition. The regression constant and the model coefficients were determined for each month of a year. The accuracy of the model was within 3% of average error and within 10% of maximum error. The developed model was found to be useful to the practical operation and management of the water supply facilities.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the effects of the elements of textile design on consumer emotion and to develop the emotion model which is suitable for the textile design. The descriptive system of textile design was developed based on the previous studies. Emotion measurement scale was developed to analyze the consumer emotion for the textile design. 20 representative types of textile design were collected as stimuli set for this study, consumer emotion on each design type was examined and was analyzed through the survey. For the data analysis, principal component analysis was employed. As a result, 8 emotional factors such as 'Modern', 'Fun', 'Natural', 'Elegance', 'Classic', 'Ethnic', 'Wild' and 'Sporty' were derived from the results of the survey. Emotion measurement scale which consisted of 8 factors was developed to analyze the effects of the elements of textile design on consumer emotion and 80 representative types of textile design were collected. In addition, the emotion which consumers feel for the textile design types was investigated and each textile design was described according to the descriptive system of textile design. Statistical methods of pearson correlation and multiple regression were employed to analyze the relationship between the elements of textile design and consumer emotion. The results of this study revealed that 15 design elements which affected consumer emotion were the size of motives, the shape of motives, the degree of tone contrast among motives etc. This study findings can provide specific design methods for the effectiveness of consumer emotion.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the possibility of application of an infrared drying to drying process for red pepper. The performance of seramic heaters and the variation of temperature and moisture content of red pepper were analyzed during an infrared drying of red peppers. Also, the quality of dried red pepper was analyzed. The following results were obtained from this study. 1. The surface temperature of infrared heaters and the rising time required for steady state were mainly affected by electrical power consumed. 2. The heat energy required for heating red pepper was proposed to be calculated by the equation in terms of enthalpy of air and net heat flux by infrared heater in a drying chamber. The statistical model for net heat flux was developed. 3. The performance of the infrared heater used for heating red pepper was much affected by the distance of radiation, and the difference of temperatures appeared between the radiated surface and the inside of red pepper. 4. Electrical capacity of the infrared heater had a significant effect on the heating of red pepper. However, the effect of shape of heater on heating was not significant. 5. The variation of temperature of red pepper largely appeared in the range of 30 to 60% (db) in moisture content. The temperature of red pepper was almost constant at low moisture content. 6. The temperature of red pepper and heating time had significant effects on the quality for radiant heating. 7. When the electrical capacity of infrared heater and the distance of radiation are carefully designed in a dryer with the insulated drying chamber, infrared drying might be very effective in red pepper drying.

  • To recover three dimensional information in Shape from Texture, the distorting effects of projection must be distinguished from properties of the texture on which the distortion acts. In this paper, we show an approximated maximum likelihood estimation method in which we find surface orientation of the visible surface (hemisphere) in gaussian sphere using local analysis of the texture. In addition, assuming that an orthogonal projection and a circle is an image formation system and a texel (texture element) respectively, we drive the surface orientation from the distribution of variation by means of orthogonal projection of a tangent direction which exists regularly in the arc length of a circle. We present the orientation parameters of textured surface with slant and tilt in gradient space, and also the surface normal of the resulted surface orientationas as needle map. This algorithm is applied to geographic contour (artificially generated chejudo) and synthetic texture.

  • It has been well known that a toroid is the inevitable shape for a high temperature superconducting (HTS) coil as a component of a large scale superconducting magnetic energy storage system (SMES) because it is the best option to minimize a magnetic field intensity applied perpendicularly to the HTS wires. Even though a perfect toroid coil does not have a perpendicular magnetic field, for a practical toroid coil composed of many HTS pancake coils, some type of perpendicular magnetic field cannot be avoided, which is a major cause of degradation of the HTS wires. In order to suggest an optimum design solution for an HTS SMES system, we need an accurate, fast, and effective calculation for the magnetic field, mechanical stresses, and stored energy. As a calculation method for these criteria, a numerical calculation such as an finite element method (FEM) has usually been adopted. However, a 3-dimensional FEM can involve complicated calculation and can be relatively time consuming, which leads to very inefficient iterations for an optimal design process. In this paper, we suggested an intuitive and effective way to determine the maximum magnetic field intensity in the HTS coil by using an analytic and statistical calculation method. We were able to achieve a remarkable reduction of the calculation time by using this method. The calculation results using this method for sample model coils were compared with those obtained by conventional numerical method to verify the accuracy and availability of this proposed method. After the successful substitution of this calculation method for the proposed design program, a similar method of determining the maximum mechanical stress in the HTS coil will also be studied as a future work.

  • Leading edge extension(LEX) in a highly swept shape applied to a delta wing features the modern air-fighters. The LEX vortices generated upon the upper surface of the wing at high angle of attack enhance the lift force of the delta wing by way of increased negative suction pressure over the surfaces. The present 3-D stereo PIV includes the Identification of 2-D cross-correlation equation, stereo matching of 2-D velocity vectors of two cameras, accurate calculation of 3-D velocity vectors by homogeneous coordinate system, removal of error vectors by a statistical method followed by a continuity equation criterion and so on. A delta wing model with or without LEX was immersed in a circulating water channel. Two high-resolution, high-speed digital cameras$(1280pixel\times1024pixel)$ were used to allow the time-resolved animation work. The present dynamic stereo PIV represents the complicated vortex behavior, especially, in terms of time-dependent characteristics of the vortices at given measuring sections. Quantities such as three velocity vector components, vorticity and other flow information can be easily visualized via the 3D time-resolved post-processing to make the easy understanding of the LEX effect or vortex emerging and collapse which are important phenomena occurring in the field of delta wing aerodynamics.
