  • Most of mechanical structures are combined of substructures such as beam and/or plates. There are few system with unibody structures but are not a few systems with united body structures. Generally the dynamic analysis of whole structures is perform ed under alternating load. However, the analysis of each joint area is more important than others for zero severity. This paper presents the results of analysis of concentration stress in bolt jointed structure with variable preload. At frist, a static vibration test was performed to find out a nominal stress of bolt joint ed plates from the relationship between natural frequency and nominal stress. Then a concentration stress was computed at contact point between bolt and plate in the structure. It is believed that the proposed method has promising implications for safer design with fatigue quality index of stress concentration factor and has merit for cost down and saving time at the beginning of vehicle development.

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of four kinds of bridge rubber pads and suggested how to determine the stiffness the pads. The stiffness of rubber pads can be estimated by a direct static test. In the procedure to estimate the stiffness of a pad, the dead load(preload) of a bridge and live load of a vehicle are considered. The polyurethane rubber pads have larger hardness than natural and chloroprene rubber pads and thus carry larger load bearing capacity. In addition, they showed higher stiffness with the same shape factor than the others and thus are more avaliable as for bridge bearings. Although natural and chloroprene rubber pads are elongated to large deformation in horizontal direction due to vertical loads, polyurethane rubber pads almost do not generate horizontal deformation due to vertical loads regardless to the thickness and hardness of the pads. Therefore, they do not need reinforced plate to restrict horizontal deformation.

  • CVT(Continuously Variable Transmission) is one of the most promising candidates for the future automobile transmission because of its continuously variable gear ratio and reduced shift shock. It is also possible to operate the power source at its high efficiency region with CVT. The CVT system consists of thrust plate, driving pulley, belt, driven pulley, and preload spring of output shaft. In this paper, the dynamic modeling of a CVT system is completed to obtain the static performances of CVT system. A simulator is implemented on Matlab(Simulink), which can analyse the static performances of a CVT system. The methods for improving the total efficiency of a motorcycle system are also proposed based on the simulation results. In this study we increase the capacity factor of CVT up to the three times of default specification.

  • In other to evaluate the static and dynamic stiffness of machine tool structure, the accuracy and error from experimental methods are studied in this paper. The F.E.M., impulse tests and exciter tests are performed for the general simple structure whose exact solution can be obtained. So that the parameter and dynamic compliance can be got. From the result, the variation of natural frequency can be verified from the static preload. Further more the relationship of identify and difference for compliance and direction is presented in the exciting direction and measurement direction.

  • In mechanical analysis of spacecraft structures situations appear where static and dynamic loads must be considered simultaneously. This could be necessary either by load definition or preloaded structures. The superposition of these environments has an impact on the load and stress distribution of the analysed structures. However, this superposition cannot be done by adding both load contributions directly. As an example, to compute equivalent Von Mises stresses, the phase information must be taken into account in the stress tensor superposition. Finite Element based frequency response solvers do not allow the calculation of superposed static and dynamic responses. A manual combination of loads in a post-processing task is required. In this paper, procedures for static and harmonic loads superposition are presented and supported by analytical and finite element-based examples. The aim of the paper is to provide evidence of the risks of using different superposition techniques. Real application examples such as preloaded mechanism structures and propulsion system tubing assemblies are provided. This study has been performed by the Structural Engineering department of Airbus Defence and Space GmbH Friedrichshafen.

  • The bearing coupling section of machine tools is the most important factor to determine their static/dynamic stiffness. To ensure the proper performance of machine tools, the static/dynamic stiffness of the rotating system has to be predicted on the design stage. Various parameters of the bearing coupling section, such as the spring element, node number and preload influence the characteristics of rotating systems. This study focuses on the prediction of the static and dynamic stiffness of the rotating system with the bearing coupling section using the finite element (FE) model. MATRIX 27 in ANSYS has been adopted to describe the bearing coupling section of machine tools because the MATRIX 27 can describe the bearing coupling section close to the real object and is applicable to various machine tools. The FE model of the bearing couple section which has the sixteen node using MATRIX 27 was constructed. Comparisons between finite element method (FEM) predictions and experimental results were performed in terms of the static and dynamic stiffness.

  • This paper presents dynamic responses of disk flutter and bump in HDD slider. The slider is modeled for three degree-of-freedom systems, which are capable of lifting, pitching, and rolling motions. In numerical analysis, loads from air pressure, preload and static moments from the slider, and stiffness and damping coefficients of the suspension are considered for investigating the dynamic characteristics analysis. The numerical results are presented as functions of typical parameters such as a disk velocity, stiffness and damping coefficients of the suspension, and skew angle.

  • The load/unload behavior of the hard disk drive slider is studied in terms of the air bearing static characteristics. The numerical continuation methods are applied to calculate suspension force - equilibrium position curve. The critical preloads of the femto size slider are analyzed. The hi-stability conditions are depicted on the skew angle - preload diagram. The perturbation method is used to check the stability of the solution branches.

  • The static and dynamic stability analysis of air-lubriceted tilting pad journal bearing which considers tilting effect of each pad and preload but neglects pad inertia were performed. And these characteristic analysis were performed with elasticity effect too. A direct numerical method is used in calculating the static characteristics such as load carrying capacity, firction force and perturbation method is used for calculation of dynamic characteristics. The stability analysis was performed with the variation of bearing number, eccentricity ratio and attitude angle considering pad elasticity effect.

  • Although rubber components are extensively used in mechanic parts. There are still a lot of difficulties in designing the rubber components applied in complex shapes and preloaded states because of the complicated material properties. One of the most important parameters for more detailed and accurate mechanical analysis during the development stages is the dynamic characteristics of the rubber components. It is well known that the dynamic properties of rubber are dependent on frequency as well as static preload. Consequently, a large number of experiments have to be conducted to identify the dynamic stiffness of a rubber bush considering the various applied conditions. In this paper, an efficient experimental method is suggested, which estimates the dynamic stiffness of a rubber bush using rubber material test and static stiffness of the bush. This method is capable of predicting the dynamic stiffness of a rubber bush under various load conditions from minimized test data.
