Finite element analysis is used to study the role of interfacial properties on the bond strength of reinforcing steel to concrete. Specifically, the role played by epoxy coatings on the failure of standard beam-end specimens is explored. Experimental results show that epoxy coatings reduce bond strength, but that the effect is dependent on the bar size and the deformation pattern. The finite element model for the beam-end specimen includes representations for the deformed steel bar, the concrete, and the interfacial material. The interface elements can be varied to match the stiffness and friction properties of the interfacial material. Cracking within the concrete is represented using Hillerborg's ficticious crack model. The model is used to study important aspects or behavior observed in the tests and to provide an explanation for the effect of the various test parameters.

Three reinforced concrete shear wall and infilled shear wall using retrofitting system were constructed and tested under both vertical and cyclic loadings, Experimental programs were carried out to evaluate and improve the seismic performance of such test specimens, such as the hysteretic behavior, the maximum horizontal strength, crack propagation, and ductility etc. under load reversals. All the specimens were modeled in one-third scale size. For specimens(RWAHC, RWXHC) designed by the improving of seismic performance using the high ductile fiber composite mortar, anchoring, and advanced detailing system for the reinforced concrete shear wall load-carrying capacities were increased $1.1{\sim}1.22$ times in comparison with the standard specimen(SRW).

The Korean Bridge Design Standard Specifications adopted the seismic design requirements in 1992. However, The current seismic design requirements for bridges are based on the USA seismic codes for sever earthquake. This provides the basic factors that affects the performance of spiral reinforced concrete piers for seismic loading, and The specimen tests are performed based on load-displacement, effective stiffness and displacement ductility, etc. The quasi-static test was adopted in order to investigate seismic performance of the spiral reinforced concrete pier specimens which had different transverse steel amount, spacing and longitudinal steel ratio under different axial load levels. This study is concluded that seismic design for transverse reinforcement content of spiral reinforced concrete column has influenced on axial load and effective stiffness etc.

This study was performed to investigate bonding performance of epoxy resins for repairing of cracks in concrete, as a part of project to establish quality control standard for epoxy resins. In the slant shear strength test for hard and soft type epoxy, hard type was higher about 3 times than soft one. From the results, it is thought that hard type is suitable for load carrying. Injection of epoxy resin in the notch made flexural strength increase about $47\%$ over the specimen that epoxy resin is not injected. There were no differences in bonding performances with viscosity. Application of epoxy resin on the wet concrete surface made slant shear strength decrease about $46\%$, but similar performance to the case of application on the dry surface appeared by using epoxy resin for wet condition.
The primary aim of this study is to introduce an innovative configuration for stirrup hooks in reinforced concrete beams and analyze the impact of factors such as stirrup spacing, placement, and hook lengths on the structural performance of reinforced concrete beam elements. A total of 18 specimens were produced and subjected to reversed cyclic loading, with two specimens serving as reference specimens and the remaining 16 specimens utilizing a specifically developed stirrup hook configuration. The experiment used reinforced concrete beams scaled down to half their original size. These beams were built with a shear span-to-depth ratio of 3 (a/d=3). The experimental samples were divided into two distinct groups. The first group comprises nine test specimens that consider the contribution of concrete to shear strength, while the second group consists of nine test specimens that do not consider this contribution. The preparation of reference beam specimens for both groups involved the utilization of standard hooks. The stirrup hooks in the test specimens are configured with a 90-degree angle positioned at the midpoint of the bottom section of the beam. The criteria considered in this study included the distance between hooks, hook angle, stirrup spacing, hook orientation, and hook length. In the experimental group examining the contribution of concrete on shear strength, it was noted that the stirrup hooks of both the R1 reference specimen and specific test specimens displayed indications of opening. However, when the contribution of concrete on shear strength was not considered, it was observed that none of the stirrup hooks proposed in the R0 reference specimen and test specimens showed any indications of opening. Neglecting the contribution of concrete in the assessment of shear strength yielded more favorable outcomes regarding structural robustness. The study found that the strength values obtained using the suggested alternative stirrup hook were similar to those of the reference specimens. Furthermore, all the test specimens successfully achieved the desired strengths.
In an uniaxial compressive test of a concrete standard specimen (150$\times$300 mm) the crack initiation and extension with the stress increase are the major reason of the failure, which is similar to the breakage of the particle bonding in the simulation by using particle bonded model, especially particle flow code in 3 dimensions (PFC3D) developed by Itasca Consulting Group Inc. That is the main motive to study the possibility of an uniaxial compressive strength test simulation. It is important to investigate the relationship between the micro-parameters and the macro-properties because the 3-dimensional particle bonded model uses the spherical particles to analyze the physical phenomena. Contact bonded model used herein has eight micro-parameters and there are five macro-properties; Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, uniaxial compressive strength and the crack initiation stress and the ratio concerning the crack propagation with the stress. To simulate the compressive test we made quantitative relationships between the micro-parameters and the macro-properties by using the fractional factorial design and various sensitivity analyses including regression analysis, which result in the good agreement with the previous studies. Also, the stress-stain curve and the crack distribution over the specimen given by PFC3D showed the mechanical behavior of the concrete standard specimen under the uniaxial compression. It is concluded that the particle bonded model can be a good tool for the analyzing the mechanical behavior of concrete under the uniaxial compressive load.

For fast-built and safe precast concrete (PC) construction, the dry mechanical splicing method is a critical technique that enables a self-sustaining system (SSS) during construction with no temporary support and minimizes onsite jobs. However, due to limited experimental evidence, traditional wet splicing methods are still dominantly adopted in the domestic precast industry. For PC beam-column connections, the current design code requires achieving emulative connection performances and corresponding structural integrity to be comparable with typical reinforced concrete (RC) systems with monolithic connections. To this end, this study conducted the standard material tests on mechanical splices to check their satisfactory performance as the Type 2 mechanical splice specified in the ACI 318 code. Two PC beam-column connection specimens with dry mechanical splices and an RC control specimen as the special moment frame were subsequently fabricated and tested under lateral reversed cyclic loadings. Test results showed that the seismic performances of all the PC specimens were fully comparable to the RC specimen in terms of strength, stiffness, energy dissipation, drift capacity, and failure mode, and their hysteresis responses showed a mitigated pinching effect compared to the control RC specimen. The seismic performances of the PC and RC specimens were evaluated quantitatively based on the ACI 374 report, and it appeared that all the test specimens fully satisfied the seismic performance criteria as a code-compliant special moment frame system.

Recently, fire resistance in high-rise building is becoming major problem socially. So it is need of hour to study on fire resistance in buildings. This study estimates fire resistance performance to utilized CFT (Concrete filled steel tube, below CFT) column in the high structure. But it is difficult quantitative evaluation about fire resistant performance of CFT. Therefore, this study made CFT specimen that determine the factor which is strength of concrete and then CFT column was exposed to heating controlled as closely as possible the ISO-834 standard fire curve. Also, tried to analyze internal temperature through nonlinear transient heat flow analysis. And, presumed extant compressive strength on the basis of this.

In this study, the compressive strength and carbonation properties of geopolymer paste according to the amount of alkali admixture added were evaluated for the development of geopolymer concrete that recycles industrial waste. A geopolymer paste specimen was prepared using Ca(OH)2 as an admixture, and the prepared specimen was standard cured for 28 days. After curing, the compressive strength of the specimen was measured. As the amount of alkali admixture increased, the compressive strength increased. After curing, carbonation was carried out for 7 days in a CO2 5% environment. As a result of comparative evaluation of the amount of CaCO3 produced according to carbonation, the amount of CaCO3 produced increased as the amount of Ca(OH)2 added increased. However, when the amount of admixture added exceeds 5%, the increase rate decreases, so the optimum addition rate is considered to be 5%.
