  • The purpose of this study was to examine the differences among families in terms of conflict, life satisfaction according to socio-demographic variables, and self-esteem, and to analyze the effects of these variables influencing marital satisfaction for immigrant women. The subjects of this study were 127 immigrant women in Sunchon. Trained researchers interviewed the subjects with structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, Duncan's test, Pearson's r, and stepwise multiple regression. The statistical package of SPSS is used to perform these analyses. The result of this study is summarized as follows: The family conflict scores of the immigrant women were lower than the median. The average score of life satisfaction was higher than the median. The family conflict of the immigrant women showed significant differences according of age.

  • In mobile radio communication, propagation paths are time or spacial varying because of the motion of mobile unit. The propagation path loss not only involves frequency and distance but also the antenna height at both the base station and the mobile unit, terrain configuration, and the man made en- vironment. Thhese additional factors make the prediction of propagation path loss of mobile radio signals more difficult. In this paper, it is measured field strenght of mobile radio signals in Daejeon and Seoul area, also calculated local median, 500m sample mean, and stadard deviation. As the result of analysis, it can be seen that propagation path loss of measured data is similiar to predicted field strength, especially local median is dependent upon base antenna height, terrain configuration and the man-made environment. The standard deviation has been noted to lie between 2 and 10 dBuV.

  • Muscle fatigue is characterized as a progressive increase in discomfort arising from the active muscle at moderate load levels are maintained. The median frequency is the most commonly used as a parameter to describe muscle fatigue. However, the estimate of the median frequency is difficult to indicate muscle fatigue because of its high standard deviation and instability. This paper investigates the power changes of the appropriate low frequency band as a fatigue parameter in EMG during isotonic exercise. To select the appropriate band, linear regression lines are employed to calculate the slopes and the coefficient of determination. Three females and seven males volunteered to participate in surface EMG recordings placed on the biceps brachii and each recording experiment continued until their exhaustion. The results of experiment shows that the power changes of the selected low frequency band (15~45 Hz) have linear slopes and high determinant coefficients. Therefore, this fatiguing parameter using the power changes of the low frequency band is valid to measure the state of muscular fatigue.

  • This paper proposes a multiple filter for reduction of received signal fluctuation and enhancement of step altitude edge detection in FMCW radar altimeter. The proposed filter was composed of alpha-trimmed mean filter, frequency variation limiter, and 1/3 order static filter. Simulations by analysis of received signal show that the proposed filter provides better performance than moving average and standard median filters with error reduction. In particular, the proposed filter was improved in the ability of reducing fluctuation for ground hovering.

  • Image signal is corrupted by various noises in image processing, many studies are being accomplished to restore those images. In this paper, we proposed a cascade filter algorithm for removing random valued impulse noise. The algorithm consists two steps that noise detection and noise elimination. Variance of filtering mask and center pixel variance are calculated for noise detection, and the noise pixel is replaced by estimated value which first apply switching self adaptive weighted median filter and finally processed by modified weight filter. Considering the proposed algorithm only remove noise and preserve the uncorrupted information that the algorithm can not only remove noise well but also preserve edge.

  • Image processing is being spotlighted as an important sector with increasingly diverse applications as the society advances into a sophisticated digital information age. Especially, the image restoration as the core technology of image processing, many studies are being progressed. In this paper, in order to restore the damaged image in the Salt and Pepper noisy environment, a modified adaptive switching median filter where the size of local mask can be varied according to the noise density was proposed. And using the PSNR as the standard for objective decision making of the improvement effect, it was compared with the existing methods.

  • When we evaluate prospective students in the interview process, we have to implement a system in which each student can be fairly judged. This process, the standardization of the scores which the interviewers have produced based on a student's performance, is implemented to ensure that each student receives a score that objectively translates one's performance. Although we don't know exactly how effective the standardization is in many different cases, we have researched which standardization methods are most stable and have minimum risks among the four methods such as STD, Range, MAD and IQR. These methods use scales such as standard deviation, range, maximum median and interquartile range.

  • Appendicitis is the most common surgical emergency in childhood. Open appendectomy has been the standard treatment. The minimally invasive techniques have been adopted in children after experiences in various surgical conditions in adults has accumulated. It is debatable whether laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) is superior to open appendectomy (OA) in children. The goal of this study is to review the results of laparoscopy and laparotomy in the nonperforated appendicitis. The records of 22 patients under 15 years of age who were operated upon for nonperforated appendicitis at Asan Medical Center were analyzed between December 2002 and April 2003. Age, type and length of intervention, frequency of analgesic use, complication, length of hospitalization, and cost for each treatment groups (N=11) were compared. Laparoscopy patients were older (13.0 vs. 10.1 years; p > 0.05), and operative time was longer (55.0 vs. 35.0 minutes; p < 0.05). There was no conversion (OA to LA). The median length of hospital stay was significantly shorter in laparoscopy (3.0 vs. 2.0 days; p < 0.05). The median cost for LA was more expensive (W833, 836 vs. W751,398; p < 0.05). Even though there were higher costs and longer operative times with laparoscopic procedures, the shorter hospital stay was an advantage.

  • The fragility curves of seismic retrofitted bridges by steel jacketing of bridge columns and restrainers at expansion joints after the 1994 Northridge earthquake are developed. Fragility curves are represented by lognormal distribution functions with two parameters(fragility parameters consisting of median and log-standard deviation) and developed as a function of peak ground acceleration (PGA). Two parameters in the lognormal distribution are estimated by the maximum likelihood method. The sixty ground acceleration time histories for Los Angeles area developed for FEMA SAC project are used for the dynamic analysis of the bridges and a computer code is developed to calculate hysterestic parameters of bridge columns before and after steel jacketing. The effect of retrofit is expressed in terms of the increase of the median value of the fragility curve for the retrofitted bridge from that of the bridge before retrofit. The comparison of fragility curves of the bridges before and after column retrofit demonstrates that the improvement of the bridges with steel jacketing on the seismic performance is excellent for the damage states defined in this study. The comparison of fragility curves of the bridges before and after restrainers at expansion joints also shows the improvement in the seismic performance of restrained bridges for the severe damage states.

  • Median sternotomy is the most popular approach in cardiac surgery. Post-sternotomy wound complications are rare, but the occurrence of a deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) is a catastrophic event associated with higher morbidity and mortality, longer hospital stays, and increased costs. A literature review was performed by searching PubMed from January 1996 to August 2017 according to the guidelines in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement. The following keywords were used in various combinations: DSWI, post-sternotomy complication, and sternal reconstruction. Thirty-nine papers were included in our qualitative analysis, in which each aspect of the DSWI-related care process was analyzed and compared to the actual standard of care. Plastic surgeons are often involved too late in such clinical scenarios, when previous empirical treatments have failed and a definitive reconstruction is needed. The aim of this comprehensive review was to create an up-to-date operative flowchart to prevent and properly treat sternal wound infection complications after median sternotomy.
