Background and Purpose : Hemiplegic upper extremity is a problem frequently encountered in the rehabilitation of patients with stroke. In Korean traditional medicine, moxibustion has been used clinically in treatment of stroke patients with hemiplegia. So far, its efficacy has not been proven clinically. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the moxibustion in treating hemiplegic upper extremity in stroke patients. Design : Randomized Control Trial. Subjects and Methods : Forty hemiplegic stroke patients admitted to Kyunghee oriental medicine hospital were randomized into the treatment with standard physiotheraphy combined with Moxibustion-group or Control-group with standard physiotherapy alone. It took them 2-5 weeks from the onset to start this study. Moxibustion was applied at LI4(合谷), LI11(曲池), TE3(中渚), TE5(外關) in hemiplegic hand, once a day for 2weeks. The effect of treatment on hemiplegic upper extremity was assessed using Fugl-Myer motor scale, Motricity Index and Modified Barthel Index(drinking/feeding, dressing upper body, grooming) Results : These 2 groups had comparable clinical characteristics; sex, age, plegic side (Rt., Lt.), pretreatment impairment. After two weeks, patients in the moxibustion group perfomed better on Fugl-Myer test and Motricity index test. The differences were significant.(P=0.038, 0.002) But Results on the Modified Barthel Index revealed no effect.(P=0.348) Conclusion : This results suggest that moxibustion is an effective treatment for improvement of motor function of hemiplegic upper extremity.
To characterize historical droughts in the conterminous United States (CONUS), we estimated the actual evapotranspiration ($ET_a$) in the CONUS using the generalized complementary relationship (GCR) for 1895-2016. The $ET_a$ estimates were compared against simulations from the Noah land surface model (LSM). In this study, the evapotranspiration (ET) deficit defined as the difference between the wet-environment ET ($ET_w$) and $ET_a$ was then normalized to calculate the Standardized Evapotranspiration Deficit Index (SEDI) across the CONUS for the years 1895-2016. The SEDI was compared to the Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) at various time scales. The results showed that the GCR $ET_a$ was slightly higher than the Noah LSM-simualted $ET_a$. As time scales increased, the correlation between the SEDI and the SPI was higher. This study suggests that the GCR has promise as a tool in the estimation of $ET_a$ and SEDI can be useful for the drought characterization.
In this study, the evaluation standard for nitrate nitrogen contamination degree (WELCUP) was established using six factors that influence the groundwater quality in Jeju Island. To do this, weightings, ranges, and ratings were assigned for each factor and the relative possibility of nitrate nitrogen contamination degree was evaluated using WELCUP index for each well. As a result of calculating the WELCUP index using groundwater quality data of 5,112 wells in Jeju Island for 27 years (1993-2019), all 61 wells with the WELCUP index value higher than 100 are distributed in Daejung and Hangyung watershed with relatively large area of farmland in Jeju Island. In particular, as the ratio of private wells is more than 64%, it is necessary that systematic management is needed for private wells in terms of nitrate nitrogen contamination. Consequently, based on the results of applying the WELCUP evaluation standard, it is necessary to select the prioritization of nitrate nitrogen contamination pathways project for groundwater wells in Jeju Island.

The paper provides an approximate cost estimating model that can be used for tunnel. Based on the previous study analyzed critical factors that have impact on tunnel construction cost, this paper establishes a cost variance index table that reflects the cost impacts due to the change of the critical cost factors. An estimating procedure is described utilizing the index table. For the verification of the suggested model, the comparison of the estimated construction cost with real project cost is performed. The estimated results range from 95%~111% of the real project costs. As an approximate tunnel cost estimating model, the model can be utilized to quickly estimate tunnel construction costs based on the conceptual information at the planning stage and to efficiently make a decision on design alternatives.

This study was done to present a criterion in selection of the most proper light sources and materials by measuring metamerism index(MI) of the light curing composite resins with spectrocolorimeter. Metamerism is defined when two objects appear to be the same color in one illuminant but different in another. This is due to the fact that they have different spectral curves that fail to match under the second illuminant. In this study, A1 & A3 shade of five light curing composite resins (Esthet-X, Filteck Z250, Filteck A110. Charisma. Vitalescence) were chosen based on Vita shade. Five samples were made for shade of each product with Teflon mold (diameter: 15mm, thickness: 2mm). Metamerism index of each samples on a Barium sulfate plate($L^{*}=96.54,{\;}a^{*}=0.19,{\;}b^{*}=0.01$) prepared for sample fixation were measured with spectrocolorimeter(Miniscan XE plus. Model 4000s. Hunter Lab. USA) by applying standard light source D^{65}, C. Fcw, TL84 and A. Standardization was done with reference standard(X=80.8, Y=85.7, Z=90.8) and light trap. The results were as follows. 1. Different resins with same Vita shade showed recognizable color difference (${\delta}E^{*}>2$). 2. All composites had MI below accepted value 0.5 between standard illuminant(D$_{65}$, C, & A) and below 1.5 under fluorescent condition (Fcw & TL84). 3. MI value between $D^{65}$ and A showed higher value than MI value between other source of light(p<0.01). 4. All resins except Z250 showed MI value that A3 is higher than A1 between $D^{65}$ and A(p<0.05).except Z250 showed MI value that A3 is higher than A1 between $D^{65}$ and A(p<0.05).

Objective: The purposes of this study were to evaluate size-specific dose estimate (SSDE) of low-dose CT (LDCT) in the Korean Lung Cancer Screening (K-LUCAS) project and to determine whether CT protocols from Western countries are appropriate for lung cancer screening in Korea. Materials and Methods: For participants (n = 256, four institutions) of K-LUCAS pilot study, volume CT dose index ($CTDI_{vol}$) using a 32-cm diameter reference phantom was compared with SSDE, which was recalculated from $CTDI_{vol}$ using size-dependent conversion factor (f-size) based on the body size, as described in the American Association of Physicists in Medicine Report 204. This comparison was subsequently assessed by body mass index (BMI) levels (underweight/normal vs. overweight/obese), and automatic exposure control (AEC) adaptation (yes/no). Results: Size-specific dose estimate was higher than $CTDI_{vol}$ ($2.22{\pm}0.75mGy$ vs. $1.67{\pm}0.60mGy$, p < 0.001), since the f-size was larger than 1.0 for all participants. The ratio of SSDE to $CTDI_{vol}$ was higher in lower BMI groups; 1.26, 1.37, 1.43, and 1.53 in the obese (n = 103), overweight (n = 70), normal (n = 75), and underweight (n = 4), respectively. The ratio of SSDE to $CTDI_{vol}$ was greater in standard-sized participants than in large-sized participants independent of AEC adaptation; with AEC, SSDE/$CTDI_{vol}$ in large- vs. standard-sized participants: $1.30{\pm}0.08$ vs. $1.44{\pm}0.08$ (p < 0.001) and without AEC, $1.32{\pm}0.08$ vs. $1.42{\pm}0.06$ (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Volume CT dose index based on a reference phantom underestimates radiation exposure of LDCT in standard-sized Korean participants. The optimal radiation dose limit needs to be verified for standard-sized Korean participants.

Retroreflection of vehicle headlights, as induced by spherical glass beads, is a key optical phenomenon that provides road-surface markings with greatly enhanced visibility, thus better securing a driver's safety in the nighttime as well as in unclear daytime. Retroreflectance of glass beads is a quite sensitive function of their refractive index, so that measurement of the refractive index of glass specifically in the shape of spherical beads needs to be performed within a reasonable uncertainty that is tolerable for road-marking applications. The Becke line method has been applied in assessing refractive index of such glass beads as e.g. an industrial standard in the Republic of Korea; however, the reference refractive-index liquids are not commercially available these days for refractive index greater than 1.80 due to the toxicity of the constituent materials. As such, high-refractive-index glass beads require an alternate method, and in this regard we propose a practically serviceable technique with uncertainty tantamount to that of the Becke line method: Based on comparison of calculated and measured retroreflectance values of commercial glass beads, we discover that their refractive index can be determined with reasonable precision via the retroreflectance measurement. Specifically, in this study the normalized retroreflectance originating from a single glass sphere is computed as a function of refractive index using the Fresnel equations, which is then validated as coinciding well with retroreflectance values measured from actual specimens, i.e. glass-bead aggregates. The uncertainties involved are delineated in connection with radius and imperfections of the glass beads.
Objective: The absence of a guideline to refer to developing malocclusions appropriately, may be a contributing factor to the inadequacy of timely interceptive orthodontics provision. This study aimed to develop and validate a new orthodontic grading and referral index to be used by dental frontliners to prioritize the orthodontic referral of developing malocclusion in children based on its severity. Methods: A cross-sectional study involving clinical assessment with 413 schoolchildren aged between 8.1 and 11.9 years was conducted in 2018. All the presenting malocclusion was listed and graded based on a few dental guidelines to produce the draft index. The validity and reliability of the draft index were tested using twenty study models. Face and content validation was carried out using the content validation index and Modified Kappa Statistics. Results: Fourteen dental and occlusal anomalies were identified as components of malocclusion and three grades of referral (monitor, standard, urgent) were included in the final index. The scale-level content validity index average value of 0.86 and 0.87 was obtained for content and face validation, respectively. There was moderate to excellent agreement in the Modified Kappa Statistics for both validations. Excellent inter- and intra-assessor agreement was obtained. The new index displayed valid and reliable scores. Conclusions: The Index for Interceptive Orthodontics Referral was developed and validated for the dental frontliners to identify and prioritize the developing malocclusion in children based on its severity and refer for orthodontic consultation to increase the possibility for interceptive orthodontics.

The present study was undertaken to establish the decision standard of builds for the insured by using the ratio of weight-for-height as build index. Materials being examined were the ratio of weight-for-height being calculated from the actually measured heights and weights of a total of 15,838 insured persons who were examined medically at Honam Medical Department of Dong Bang Life Insurance Company, Ltd. from June, 1979 to September, 1985. The ratio of weight-for-height is calculated by the following formula. The ratio of weight-for-height(%)=$\frac{weight(kg){\times}100}{\{height(cm)-100\}{\times}0.9(kg)$ The results were as follows: 1. The distribution of the ratio of weight. for-height of the 15,838 insureds follows Log normal distribution being skewed to the left(the direction of underweight). 2. The ratio of weight-for-height were Log transformed to lead to a sym metrical pattern of distribution in which statistical rules are known to be applied more exactly. Thereafter, the establishment of dicision standard of builds was undertaken by using the log of the ratio of weight-for-height as build index. Through all ages in male, the ratio of weight-for-height indicating the range of standard lives including slight overweighted and underweighted lives besides normal lives is 80-130%, and corresponds to $"M-2{\delta}"-"M+1.5{\delta}"$ and to $M{\pm}20%$ ; in female, 85-135%, and corresponds to $"M-2{\delta}"-"M+1.5{\delta}"$ and to $M{\pm}20%$. Through all ages in male, the ratio of weight-for-height indicating the initial level of super-overweighted and super-underweighted lives is 130-150% and 75-80%,and corresponds to $M+3{\delta}\;and\;M-3{\delta}$ and to M+40% and M-25% respectively;in female, 140-160% and 75-80%, and corresponds to $M+3{\delta}\;and\;M-3{\delta}$ and to M+40%-+50% and M-25% respectively. 3. Author's rating table model for builds(a table of weight per height) is proposed. On the table, the ratings for builds, i. e. standard, super-weighted and super-underweighted lives, are listed.

Deterministic design optimization (DO) does not explicitly deal with a variety of factors from inherent randomness and uncertainties. Reliability based design optimization(RBDO) is necessary to use in engineering systems in order to guarantee quality and performance of product. In this paper, design variables are considered as random variables. Standard deviation according to change of design variables have changed as much as coefficient of variation. And, if the standard deviation is error of manufacturing, standard deviation-mean relation is concave form. We obtain reliability index using advanced first order second moment method(AFOSM). This paper is examined by solving two examples and the results are compares with DO, RBDO and suggested RBDO.
